Radio remote control for satellite receiver

It often happens when several TVs are connected to one satellite receiver. This is done, first of all, in order to be able to watch satellite TV not only in the room where the satellite receiver is installed, but also in other rooms, for example, in the kitchen. Moreover, why not send the signal of satellite channels there, if there is also a TV there. After all, few receivers, like televisions, are rarely bought at once in one day. Therefore, a separate satellite receiver will appear in the kitchen, but a little later, and while there is already one receiver in the hall, why not watch the news before work over a cup of tea in the kitchen.

So, having the following connection diagram at home, you can easily watch satellite channels in any room where the cable from the satellite receiver has just been laid. However, if you think about it, then a simple question immediately comes to mind. Well, let's say I connected everything, and now I have a signal from a satellite receiver in my kitchen. Let's say I turned on some channel on the receiver located in the hall and went to the kitchen for tea. And when I got there, I saw that the TV show, which is now on the channel I have switched on, is not to my liking. And now what to do, to run back to the hall to switch the channel? A reasonable question, isn't it.

In this case, the radio remote control prefix will help you out. The prefixes themselves, like their names among the people, differ from each other. Today we will consider a prefix called Semi-pyramid. The name pyramid stuck because the first such devices were in the shape of a pyramid. Some of them consisted of two blocks and they were called pyramids. The pyramids were placed one in a room next to a satellite receiver, the second in another room near a TV set.

Everything worked as follows. You had to take the remote control of the receiver with you to another room, where you are going to watch satellite TV. In our case, to the kitchen. Further, the remote control was directed to the TV, next to which one part of the pyramid was installed. This part of the pyramid receives the signal from the remote control, converts it into radio waves and transmits it to the second part of the pyramid. The second part, in turn, converts the radio waves back into an infrared signal from the remote control and transmits it to the receiver. This is how using radio waves, like two small radio stations, the remote control signals are transmitted from one room to another, only communication in this case is only in one direction. From the second TV set to the receiver.

And what is a half-pyramid. In fact, it is the same, only one block of the constituent pyramid is made in the form of a small board without a power supply unit and a case and is designed to be installed directly into the console itself.

This is what one of the half-pyramid options looks like. As you can see in the photo, it consists of two parts. One part is a power supply unit along with a radio transmitting module, which is made in the form of a conventional power adapter, such as a mobile phone charger, for example. A wire is connected to it, ending with an infrared LED, the same as in the remotes. You plug the unit itself into an electrical outlet and pull the wires with the LED under the body of the satellite receiver and direct the LED to its front panel. Now it will transmit signals in the same way as the native remote control. The second part requires its installation in the remote control.

The cases of most remote controls consist of two plastic halves, fastened together with latches, which are very easy to break. Therefore, if you are not confident in your abilities, then provide this opportunity to professionals.And if the pros are far from you, then you can try and do everything yourself. To open the remote control and not break the latches, you need to pick up a school plastic ruler, one corner of which must be sharpened like a kitchen knife, but not for cutting food, but simply to a thickness so that the ruler can go into the gap between the halves of the case. Next, insert the corner of the ruler, turn it parallel to the body of the remote control and move it along the body to the end, after which you can slightly press the ruler to the side so that, pressing the latches, open one side of the remote control slightly. We do the same on the other side of the case. I advise you to practice on some out of order remote control.

An open remote control looks like this. Two halves of the case, rubber buttons and the board itself with tracks and a microprocessor, topped with an LED. As a rule, all consoles are relatively voluminous and in order to give the body a certain rigidity, they are made with ribs. It is necessary to place the high-frequency block of the pyramid between them, if it will not fit, then you can trim the edges with a knife to the desired size.

In the recommendations for installing the RF unit, it is indicated the importance of the location of the RF unit inside the console, the range of its action and, in general, its performance depends on it. The unit is connected to the control board with three wires. Two of them connect directly to the + and - of the battery compartment, and the third connects to the path between the transistor powering the LED and the LED itself. The instruction recommends to solder the LED. But it is enough to simply cut the path on the board between the LED and the transistor. Since few people manage to solder the part the first time without damaging the board itself, in contrast to, just solder three wires to the right points.

Do not forget to cut a place in the stiffeners for laying the connecting wire, so that later you will not be surprised why the remote control swelled during assembly, and some of the buttons stopped working. The recommended transmitter antenna layout may not work in all cases. I was convinced of this on the example of the remote control from the DRE satellite receiver. The remote control is coated with a silvery paint based on aluminum dust. As a result, the body of the remote control is a kind of electromagnetic shield for radio waves, which are not able to break through from such a weak transmitter. As soon as I closed the last latch on the remote control, the pyramid stopped working. And it was just a couple of meters between the remote control and the receiving unit!

Therefore, a hole was made in the glass of the remote control for the antenna, and the antenna (wiring) itself was brought outside the remote control, and so that no one would get hurt on such an antenna, I simply attached it to the bottom
