Review of Symbian-smartphone Nokia C6 - with QWERTY-keyboard and good camera.

If you have a desire to buy a relatively inexpensive Symbian smartphone with a full-fledged QWERTY keyboard, then most likely the best option would be Nokia C 6. This is a somewhat simplified model of the N 97 mini, even better in some aspects, since the C6 has a newer firmware. in which the response speed is increased and several bugs are fixed. This phone is of an average price level, typical of a young audience.

The kit includes:

- Nokia C6 phone;

- Rechargeable battery BL-4J;

- Micro USB cord;

- 2GB micro SD memory card;

- Stereo headset WH-102;

- AC-15 charger;

- Instruction;

- Guide to using Nokia OVI;

- Guarantee.

The phone is made in two colors - black and white. I got a black phone in my hands. The case material is plastic (matte Soft touch), which looks quite solid. Front panel - plastic (translucent). The body is very pleasant to the touch, there are practically no fingerprints left, it does not slip out of your hands. The phone keypad is placed on a metal plate. The white color scheme looks more interesting than the black one.

The body is very similar to the Nokia 5800. But one should also keep in mind that this is a slider with a sliding keyboard. The smartphone has a decent weight - 150 grams.

Nokia C6:

Dimensions: 113.4x53x16.8 mm;

Weight (with battery): 150 grams.

Nokia 5800:

Dimensions: 111x51x15.5 mm;

Weight (with battery): 109 grams.

Visual comparison of Nokia C6 and Nokia 5800:

Keyboard:

C6 has a form factor - a side slider with a sliding keyboard. In the open state, both parts are fixed very well, and when closed, you can see a small gap in the lower part. Nice move, not bad auto-finishing.

The buttons are made of high quality plastic and have a convex shape. A small move, but the clicks are felt. There are no erroneous presses, since the keys are perfectly spaced. On the right side is a five-way joystick with a button in the center. The keyboard layouts are in the same color. Good uniform illumination (white).

Buttons and connectors:

At the top of the front panel there is an earpiece covered with a metal grill, a light sensor, a detection sensor and a camera for video calls. Below the display there are three buttons: "call start", "menu", "call end". Illumination of green, white and red colors.

On the lower end part there are: an outlet for connecting a charger, a microphone and a lanyard attachment.

On the right side there is a volume control. Below is a lever for locking the display. A similar design feature is applicable in such models: 5800, 5530, N900 and so on. Below is a button to call the camera.

A standard 3.5 mm headset jack is installed on the top end. To the left is a connector for connecting a micro USB cable, closed with a cap.

On the left side panel there is a hole for installing a micro SD card. It is also closed with a plug.

At the back are installed: camera, flash and external speaker.

Battery:

The back cover has a small gap. It can be removed easily by pressing the locking button at the bottom of the case.

Battery performance specifications stated by the company:

- up to 5 hours WCDMA.

In standby:

- up to 400 hours.

The phone is capable of playing video for about 246 minutes without recharging, listening to music for up to 30 hours.

After my tests, the smartphone showed itself on the good side: when watching a video, the C6 worked for about 4 hours, when browsing the web with Wi-Fi on for about 8 hours. These are pretty good numbers.

The display in the smartphone is standard with a diagonal of 3.2 inches, with a resolution of 640x360 pixels. It is capable of displaying up to 16 million colors.The display is protected by plastic. The camera is activated by pressing the side button or through the menu. Pictures have a maximum resolution of 2584x1938 pixels, video is shot at 640x480.

The quality of the photos is amazing, it can be compared with an average digital camera: the color rendition is more than natural, the sharpness is high, and there is practically no noise. Correct flash operation. It reaches a distance of about two meters.

The quality of the captured video is slightly worse than at 5800. The maximum video length is 90 minutes.

C6 is controlled by the Symbian 9.4 operating system. The smartphone is equipped with an ARM 11 processor with a frequency of 434 MHz. The core count speed is capable of reaching up to 740 operations per second. Has a fairly low power consumption. This processor cannot be called powerful, but in principle it does its job well.

With the installation of the new firmware version, the speed of the menu has increased, the launch of various applications has been optimized.

In general, if we compare the operating speed of the 5800 and the C6, it is almost the same.

Menu:

With the advent of the new firmware, new widgets have been added, but the number of working interfaces has not changed. But still, the use, quantity and information flow of new widgets is still very far from Android widgets. In principle, this addition did not improve the usability of the operating system.

The phone menu is standard as well as on other Symbian devices. Up to 12 icons can be placed on the display. By default, the main interface display has the following icons:

- the calendar;

- contacts;

- Music;

- The Internet;

- Messages;

- Photo;

- OVI shop;

- Maps;

- Email;

- Video and TV;

- Applications;

- Parameters.

The visual interface can be changed using skins. In the phone, initially, there are 3 of them: "Dark", "Light", "Theme White".

Contacts:

To access the phone book, you need to launch the "Contacts" application in the menu. Contacts displays the first and last name of the contact and the location where the caller information is stored. If you want to create a new contact, then you can add the following data:

- Subscriber's name;

- Surname;

- Mobile number;

- Avatar;

- OVI;

- Call signal;

- Video call;

- E-mail;

- Organization;

Call management:

To access the call log, press the call key:

- missed calls;

- Received calls;

- Dialed numbers;

Messages:

If you want to write a message, you can use the on-screen keyboard, handwriting text input, or bring up the mechanical keyboard.

The Internet:

The browser installed in the phone is standard Browser NG 7.2.6. Unfortunately, web page loading and scrolling are not at the highest level.

Memory:

The C6 has about 200 MB of its own memory and support for micro SD cards (up to a maximum of 16 GB). The standard file manager provides the ability to work with files.

Communication:

The smartphone is equipped with a full set of devices for communication: support for 3G networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (v.2.0)

Sensors:

The G-sensor (a sensor required for orientation in space) responds very quickly. It is turned off from the menu, in the parameters, the display will rotate when the keyboard moves out. There are also no complaints about the rest of the sensors.

Applications:

By default, the phone has the following applications:

- Work with e-mail, MMS, messages;

- Organizer (notes, contacts, to-do list, calendar);

- Nokia Messaging;

- Ovi Maps;

- Work in social networks;

- Ovi Suite.

There is also:

- ESPN Soccer;

- Bloomberg;

- Picture editor;

- Vocabulary;

- Unit converter;

- Calculator;

- Archiver;

- File Manager.

Music player:

The "Music" application is installed in the main menu. At startup, a media player appears, which has the following functions:

- recently played music;

- Music library;

- OVi music;

- Radio.

Visual interface:

At the top of the screen shows the album cover, just below the scroll bar. Below is the title of the song and the artist. Control is carried out using three keys: "back", "start / stop", "forward".

Parameters:

- balance of sound distribution;

- Tono compensation;

- stereo base;

There is also an equalizer, which has 6 settings: bass boost, classical, jazz, pop, rock, default. You can also customize it yourself. But keep in mind that the settings will greatly affect the sound of the song.

The speaker is not very loud, but its sound is clear and does not cut the ear. If you connect headphones, then their sound will delight you. The volume is very high, the sound is clear.

Radio:

The radio is accessed through the "Music" menu item. RF range: 87.5-108MHz / 76-90MHz. The radio has RDS support. The disadvantage of the radio is that you can save 20 radio stations, although about 40 are available. The sound quality of the radio is very good, the volume is sufficient. You can output the station being played to an external speaker.

GPS:

There is also a GPS receiver with A-GPS support in this smartphone. It has a very good reception, "catches" satellites even when indoors.

Conclusion:

After all, the Nokia C6 made a good impression on me. It also has a good camera and a rather comfortable keyboard. The only drawback is the operating system, which is somewhat outdated in comparison with its competitors. Due to its affordable price, this smartphone is very popular.

Positive aspects of C6:

- Excellent and high quality camera;

- Convenient functional keyboard;

- Low power consumption.

Disadvantages:

- Resistive display.
