We often have to overpay for features that we never intend to use. It is likely that very soon all handsets without a color screen and polyphony will be discontinued altogether. However, the German concern decided to give you freedom of choice, creating the simplest possible pipe especially for practical and economical

If the phone does not attract the user with its functional richness, then at least in size and appearance it should stand out. Something like this could be the reasoning of the manufacturers. As a result, the tube turned out to be really miniature, and the design can be called thoughtful. Proceeding from the fact that the widest segments of the population will be interested in the phone, the manufacturer decided not to focus on any one age group, but simply to create a universal and simple phone for calls and messaging. However, some points still needed to be taken into account. So, taking care of older users, the developers decided to make the keys large and place them at some distance from each other. As it turned out, this is a very successful solution, thanks to which we never got confused when dialing numbers and SMS messages. The screen in the device is small (101x80 pixels), but for people with low vision there is an opportunity to view the menu in an enlarged form. The backlighting of the screen is a corporate amber color, however, it can be turned off in order to save energy. By the way, the battery here has a capacity of 650 mAh and, according to the manufacturer, is capable of working up to 250 hours in standby mode and up to 2 hours in talk mode. In real conditions, the handset worked from one charge for 3 days - a good indicator, average for a “non-color” model.

The strap hole in the device is made differently than in the A65, not in the place where the rear panel is attached, but more usually - on the top, in the right end.

At the bottom there is a standard interface connector, and this is where, in fact, all the functional design of the panels ends. The handset has neither an IrDA, nor additional volume buttons, nor a built-in camera. However, despite the external modesty, the phone has a necessary function that will delight many. We are talking about working in three bands GSM 900/1800/1900, which is extremely rare in inexpensive devices. This gives the user the ability to stay connected on all continents.

Apart from the absence of a color screen, the handset is distinguished from the A65 by the absence of a four-position navigation key. The cancel button is combined here, as in most other Siemens handsets, with the end of the call button.

The menu design in the A70 resembles the models released back in 2001-2002, such as the C35 and C45. The user will see here a vertical list of a few items, between which you can navigate using the number sequences.

The phone book in the device is designed for 100 numbers, not counting the SIM card memory. You can enter only one number and e-mail address for one name, as well as assign a picture. All records can be divided into 9 groups, and individual ringing tones are assigned to individual groups. The choice, however, is not great - which is easy to guess. The phone memory stores lists of the last 10 dialed, 10 received and 10 missed calls.

Messages are presented by standard SMS and EMS, for which templates are provided. Up to 100 messages can be stored in dynamic memory.

A long press of the navigation key up opens the "Profiles" menu item ("quiet place", "noisy place", "normal environment", etc.). A call signal can be only a vibration alert, or only a melody, or vibration + melody. There are 10 built-in melodies, 4 more you can add your own. The polyphony is 16-tones, the preset melodies sound loud enough and shrill, you definitely won't miss an important call.

The standard organizer menu includes a calendar, clock, alarm clock and calculator. Of course, the user will not find a stopwatch and a voice recorder here.

The two preinstalled games are the familiar Balloon Shooter and Stack Attack games. You will not be able to install your games, the phone does not support WAP, let alone Java. However, users of such a handset are obviously not purchasing the device in order to surf the Internet or play games with it.

It seems that in the world there are fewer and fewer users using the phone exclusively for its intended purpose. However, “calling” subscribers, nevertheless, must be taken into account, it is for them that the manufacturer has created the most simple and, as a result, a cheap phone. Unlike the A65 model, which is positioned as an intermediate link between a budget handset and a new generation of phones, the A70 is a typical budget employee.
