Review of HTC Flyer P510e Tablet

Other companies followed Apple's footsteps. Most of them run on Google Android system. She recently had a tablet version as well. Dear visitors of the F.ua online multimarket! Today we are going to tell you about HTC Flyer - the long-awaited tablet computer from HTC. Outwardly, this device resembles an overgrown smartphone, mainly due to the not very large display, as for tablets. In general, by tradition, we will start with the technical specifications.

The processor is 1.5 GHz, and the RAM is 1 GB. All this allows the tablet to quickly cope with the tasks. The diagonal of the display is seven inches, and the resolution is 1024x600. As for the operating system, the entire tablet is running Android 2.3. It would seem that this is a completely familiar tablet, but it has several advantages in management.

So let's go in order. The first plus is the touch control buttons under the display. As soon as we turn the tablet over, the touch buttons are transferred along with the change in the position of the image. These are three familiar buttons - "Home", "Menu", "Back". However, this model has another new button with the image of a pen that does not respond to finger presses. In order for this button to work, you and I need to arm ourselves with a Magic Pen. What does this Magic Pen do?

Surely, many of you had such a situation that when you were holding a tablet or phone in your hands, you needed to write something down. And for that, you used a pen and notepad. And it was not very convenient. However, HTC has solved this problem. With the Magic Pen, you can write directly on the tablet display. In addition, the display is responsive to pressure. If you press hard, then you get a thick line, if you press weakly, then a thin line. Therefore, we can say with confidence that HTC Flyer works almost like a graphics tablet.

So, with the help of the Magic Pen, we click on the very fourth button and we have a menu that invites us to take either a note or a screenshot. When we select the "Note" mode, we are offered a tool with which to write, and, accordingly, the color and thickness of the drawn line. You should also pay attention to the fact that there are two buttons on the handle. And as soon as we press the top button, our pen turns into an eraser.

If you think that you can only write with the Magic Pen, then you are wrong. With it, you can also edit pictures in the gallery. In addition, the pen will be very useful in the "Reader". With the help of magic-pen, you can highlight the words or paragraphs you need.

The HTC Flyer tablet is equipped with two cameras. One of them is a front one with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels, and the main one with a resolution of 5 megapixels. Naturally, both cameras can also shoot video up to 720p. The camera has several useful features such as auto enhance, auto focus, face detection, etc.

The set of applications is standard for HTC devices running Android 2.3 and with the Sense interface. Manufacturers promise that this device can work without recharging in active use mode for 8 hours.

Let's now take a closer look at the tablet. On the front panel, in addition to the touch buttons, there is a front camera, and the side panel is equipped with a volume control button. Above is a headphone jack and a button to turn on / lock the display. On the back is the main camera and two speakers, and on the bottom is a USB connector. Unfortunately, the built-in camera has no flash, which is a significant drawback. The main part of the back cover of HTC Flyer is made of metal with two plastic inserts. The top plastic insert is removable, and underneath is the micro-sd and sim card slot. By the way, the tablet supports micro-sd cards up to 32GB.

Includes Quick Start Guide and Safety & Compliance Guide, Wall Charger, Headset, USB Cable. As a pleasant bonus, the developers have added a special case-folder to the kit, in which you can conveniently carry the device itself. In addition, the case has a special hole for the Magic Pen. As for the Magic Pen, which is also included in the kit, the top cover of the pen can be removed, so you can quickly change the battery (which is also included in the kit).

Surely, after describing all these characteristics, you have a question: is there a chance for HTC Flyer to compete with the Apple iPad 2? Let's take a look at all the nuances. The tablet from HTC is quite expected and predictable new product. Almost six months have passed since its first announcement in Barcelona, and now the tablet has finally come to our country. The price for it at the beginning of sales, of course, makes you think (in our online store it is 859 dollars). Does the HTC Flyer have a chance at such a high cost and with a competitor in the face of iPad 2 to take its rightful place? Let's consider.

Externally, HTC Flyer is a cross between iPad 2 and Sony readers. Compact, neat, in a metal case, it looks presentable and soundly. Body materials and assembly are reference materials, this is especially noticeable against the background of plastic tablets from Samsung. But because of the metal, Flyer weighs decently - 420 grams. Agree, for a 7-inch baby, this is a little too much. At the same time, the dimensions of the tablet from HTC, in the opinion of many, are much more successful than the 10-inch iPad 2, which does not fit into every bag. HTC Flyer is very similar to iPad in design: there is metal in the case, its own interface and white accessories. Inside, Flyer has a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon single-core processor. In addition to the processor, the speed is facilitated by 1 GB of RAM. True, this power translates into a very modest operating time.

In tests Flyer worked for about a day with activated 3G data transmission and switched off Wi-Fi. Video at maximum brightness was played for 4 hours and 30 minutes, audio - almost 30 hours. In both modes, all wireless modules were disabled.

Most importantly, it works fast and error-free, unlike Android 3.0. The tablet demonstrates high performance when running system and third-party applications, including 3D games. However, when working with the interface, there may be slight delays in its drawing. The Sense 3.0 shell itself looks just fine.

If we talk about services, here we will have to be disappointed. Three key OnLive games, Watch films and Skype video telephony were announced in Barcelona. Of these three, only one made it to our country - Watch films, moreover, in a stripped-down version.

Perhaps the main advantage of this device is the material from which it is made. The main body material is aluminum, but the plastic is used only for two white inserts. The upper one (with the camera) is made flush with the surface, the lower one is convex. The tablet looks fresh and interesting, obviously you can't confuse it with competitors.

As for the battery, it is not removable. The capacity of this lithium-ion battery is 400 mAh, which allows you to watch a couple of movies.

Conclusion

So, we can conclude that the first tablet from HTC did not come out lumpy. Despite the phone version of Android, you can use it without restrictions. In addition, an update to a tablet version is expected very soon. And thanks to the design and additional features, HTC has moved closer to the great dream of Apple's competitors - to make a tablet that does not look like an iPad. Now people have a choice!
