Review of the game "FIFA 09".

FIFA 09 can be safely called no less than an iconic game, because it was in the year that EA Canada finally stopped porting all the nasty things from PlayStation 2 to PS3 and made a simulator that you are not ashamed to show your friends.

Moreover, it became not ashamed to show, in the most literal sense. Compared to FIFA 08 and especially the bastard UEFA EURO 08, the look of the new football simulator is not a step, it is a triple leap forward.

But the game's innovations are not limited to graphics alone. A mouse-linked control system will debut in the series this year. This is quite pulling for a mini-revolution in the genre, since a year ago it seemed that team sports simulators without "gamepads" were about the same as Romeo without Juliet.

In addition, a new system of single combats was registered in FIFA 09, taking into account the speed and weight of players. If you, controlling, say, Jamie Carragher from Liverpool, suddenly decide to try to wipe away Robinho or some other “dystrophic” from the ball, then your opponent runs the risk of simply flying to the side. By the way, most of the free throws in FIFA 09 are the consequences of jerks and improper power struggle, and not trips and tackles, as it was before.

Of the not so positive changes, I would like to note the slightly stupid artificial intelligence of the defenders, which is especially noticeable at low difficulty levels. Sometimes the score of even an eight-minute match makes one think of handball or, say, rugby. However, we must admit that, in the end, 7: 2 is much more fun than 1: 0. Yes, after such bursts of performance, realism begins to sob with crocodile tears, but if you are worried about its torment, we can advise you to try your hand at Professional or World Class modes. Here, the artificial intelligence of the crow counts much less often.

However, not a hail of goals in individual matches or the inability of defenders to arrange a passive offside position should be called the main drawback of FIFA 09. This simulator lacks something else to become a masterpiece. First, second and whatever you like, brought to mind game modes. What do we have today, if you do not take into account all kinds of training and friendly matches? First, the tournament. Boring and fleeting. Secondly, the multiplayer championships. A good option if, of course, you have the Internet. Thirdly, a career that has required a major overhaul of the interface and tactical settings for several years now. According to intelligence reports, the ice has already broken in this regard, however, only in FIFA 09 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. At least this leaves hope that innovations will eventually migrate to the PlayStation 3 version. Does PlayStation 3 FIFA 09 have a dedicated camera for Be A Pro mode? Yes, with a one-year delay.

Unlike FIFA 08, it is now allowed to nurture a single player for not one, but four seasons. This, as they say, is good, but not enough, since the potential of the main novelty of last year is still practically not used. For example, now, having created a footballer, you can immediately play at least for Chelsea, at least for Real, despite the more than modest characteristics of the ward at first. But it would be more logical to start climbing to sports heights somewhere at the bottom of national championships and slowly grow to the level of top clubs. By the way, EA Canada has already implemented something similar in one of its games.

However, even without all of the above, FIFA 09 turned out to be a vigorous, beautiful game and, no matter how strange it may sound for a series that had been rotting for a long time in its own juice, innovative.
