As a general rule, the echo sounder is useless at depths of about 2 meters. Because at such a distance, the fish are frightened even by the rowing boat.
For ice fishing and fishing in small bodies of water, a simple echo sounder is suitable, but it should have two important features:
- GPS function.
First, it guarantees safety. You will be able to fish in fog or at dusk, as the GPS allows you to plot your route through the body of water.
Secondly, you can set the desired point on the screen and easily find it.
- Wide scanning angle.
The shallow depths of such fishing must be compensated for by the coverage width. An echo sounder with additional side beams will allow you not to rush along a river or lake, but to "comb" them in several passes. The coverage area of such devices can reach 120 m.

How to choose a fish finder for yacht fishing
- Screen
On sea fishing, it is more convenient to use devices with a vertical screen, since great depths are scanned. The minimum diagonal size is 5 inches, but larger is better so that the device can display more information at the same time. Naturally, the color screen is beyond competition.
