Review monitor Asus Designo MX279H

Asus Designo MX279H

Appearance

The Asus Designo MX279H monitor stands out for its design. The display has almost no bezel. The ease of use of the Asus MX279H monitor is added by the absence of a protruding border around the screen. The front display panel is completely covered with a protective glass with an anti-reflective matte finish. Despite the fact that the display is covered with a protected glass, the image does not seem to be recessed inward. It seems that the picture is as if applied to the surface of the display. The display bezel of the Asus MX279H is only 0.8 centimeters wide and seems so thin that when you use the monitor, you hardly pay attention to it. But in the off state, the Asus MX279H monitor looks even more impressive, since the frame is generally indistinguishable from the background of the front panel.

Thanks to the use of LED backlighting, the developers managed to achieve a body thickness of only 18 millimeters at its thinnest point. At the top, the case of the Asus MX279H monitor has the smallest thickness, and expands downward, since the interface panel is located at the bottom of the display, on the rear panel.

The Asus MX279H monitor stand is not particularly functional, but it looks very stylish, fully consistent with the name of the Designo Series line, which includes the MX279H model. The stand is made of metal and has matte and shiny surfaces. With the help of the stand, you can only change the angle of inclination of the monitor, other adjustments are not provided.

At the bottom of the front panel of the Asus MX279H monitor there is a silvery plastic bulge, on the front side of which the manufacturer's logo and signatures of the touch buttons located in the lower right corner of the MX279H model are applied. Also on the bottom edge of the display are the speakers of the built-in speaker system of the monitor, made by Bang & Olufsen. The Asus MX279H uses SonicMaster and ICEpower technologies for high quality sound reproduction. The built-in speakers are not suitable for listening to music at maximum volume, but for listening to the sound of a movie or a computer game, built-in speakers are perfect. In addition, the speaker system built into the Asus MX279H monitor can play sound that is transmitted via the HDMI interface.

Interfaces

The interface panel of the Asus MX279H monitor is located on its rear surface. The interface panel contains two HDMI digital video outputs, one D-Sub video output, an audio output (3.5 mm), a headphone jack (3.5 mm) and a power supply connector. Such "computer" video outputs as Display Port and DVI are absent in the Asus MX279H monitor, which can only indicate that the display is intended to work with game consoles or media players, and not with stationary computers. Also in favor of this assumption is the resolution of the Asus MX279H monitor, which with a diagonal of 27 inches is only 1920 x 1080 pixels, if the Asus MX279H monitor was designed to work with a computer, it would have a resolution of at least 2560 x 1440 pixels.

Control

The control buttons located on the right side of the lower edge of the monitor, as already mentioned, are touch-sensitive, but they look like mechanical. It is easy to grope the buttons, but until you get used to it, the hand just reaches out to press one of the touch buttons. The sensors are very sensitive and work perfectly at the first touch to the active zone. It is also worth noting that the Asus MX279H monitor is devoid of bright LEDs that interfere with working behind the monitor at night. The menu of the Asus MX279H monitor cannot be called intuitive, since at first glance it seems quite confusing and in order to find the desired setting, you can spend a lot of time. After twenty minutes of familiarization with the menu, it already becomes more understandable.

Image quality and monitor matrix

The Asus MX279H monitor is based on an AH-IPS matrix. The matrix demonstrates excellent color performance and wide viewing angles. The matrix shows an impressively colorful picture even with factory settings, so there is no need to switch the Asus MX279H monitor to sRGB mode. The range at factory settings is almost the same as in the sRGB mode, at all gray levels the temperature is 6500 K, and the gamma deviates slightly from the reference indicator 2.2. The only drawback of the Asus MX279H monitor is that its 27-inch matrix has Full HD resolution, which, with such a diagonal, makes the pixel grains visible to the naked eye.

It is also worth noting that using the sRGB preset, the user loses the ability to set the contrast level and brightness of the backlight, which automatically adjusts to 115 cd / m2, and also changes the sharpness and the dynamic contrast ASCR is turned off. It should be noted the low contrast of the display, which in Scenery mode is only 410: 1. Dynamic contrast (the ASCR parameter is on) is equal to 1400: 1.

The backlight of the Asus MX279H monitor, unfortunately, is uneven - there is a backlight zone at the top of the display, and there is a small dark line in the center of the display. At the same time, the difference in brightness of different areas of the matrix is insignificant and therefore almost invisible.

conclusions

The Asus MX279H is a relatively inexpensive monitor that is perfect for working with a media player or Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game consoles. due to the low resolution, sufficiently large pixels of the matrix will be visible, and the image will look large. In working with game consoles, the owner of the Asus MX279H monitor will receive a large number of various bonuses, for example, two HDMI connectors and sound transmission to the speakers of the built-in Bang & Olufsen speaker system via HDMI ports.

If you are looking for a monitor with an attractive design, bright display, excellent color reproduction and wide viewing angles that can be turned into a home media center, then the MX279H is just for you.
