Design

Many new models from Nokia look stylish and elegant, for example, the C7 in a rounded case with the use of metal. The X3-02, in my opinion, is no less attractive, although it is not so streamlined and is made entirely of plastic. The X3-02 is available in several colors: silver, dark metallic, blue, and even pink and lilac. Our test version was a silver device (although, only the back metal cover is silver, other parts are whitish).

The X3-02 case is perfectly assembled, it does not creak when pressed, and the battery cover does not play. The dimensions of the phone are small, and the weight is only 78 g. Thanks to the rounded edges, the X3-02 fits perfectly in the palm of your hand.

On the front side of the device there is a speech speaker, proximity sensor, 2.4-inch screen and keyboard buttons. Due to the loose plastic on the top edge and the display, holding the device close to the ear, it can scratch the skin, which causes discomfort Probably, this is only a flaw in the sample that came to us.

On the right side there are buttons for locking the display, adjusting the volume and a button for opening the back cover (there is a similar one on the left side).

A hole for the speaker is located at the bottom of the device. On the top there is a connector for charging, an audio output - 3.5 mm and a microUSB connector.

On the back there is a 5-megapixel camera lens.

Keyboard

Below the display there are buttons for receiving, rejecting a call, as well as buttons for media and messages. They are almost flush with the body, have the smallest travel and hard pressure. The backlighting of these keys is bright white.

Below is an ordinary keyboard consisting of 12 buttons. Here are just the location of "*", "0" and "#" is very unusual - not below, but on the right side. This arrangement has been repeatedly used in Chinese phones, which again makes us recall the "nocle". This is not to say that such an arrangement is favorable, but it is possible to get used to it. The travel of the buttons is the smallest and most firm. The blue backlight evenly illuminates the buttons. It's a pity, but in strong light, the signs are difficult to distinguish.

Since the device is equipped with a touchscreen display, you had the opportunity to imagine that the phone also has a virtual keyboard in addition to the usual one, but its provision was considered superfluous.

Battery

To remove the back cover, you need to press on 2 buttons located on the left and right end parts of the device.Unfortunately, the experience with such a design was mostly negative - removing and re-installing the cap is very inconvenient. On the back, with the cover removed, we see typical "sleds" for placing a memory card and a SIM card. The "quick" change of the microSD card is possible.

The X3-02 has a lithium polymer (Li-Pol) battery with a capacity of 860 mAh. According to the manufacturer, the conversation is guaranteed - 300 minutes. (5 hours), when listening to music - 25 hours, when watching a video - 7 hours, and in the absence of load, i.e. standby mode - 430 h.

With active use of the device, as it was during the test, the battery will work for about two days (during these days it was: listening to the player and radio for 6 hours, using WIFI for 5 hours, working with the menu and camera for 3 hours, making calls from the phone for about 1 hour ., sent a couple of SMS).

Recharging via USB is quite long, about 5 hours, and from a normal recharge it is much faster, on average in 1 hour.

Screen

Nokia X3-02 has a TFT-display with a 2.4-inch diagonal and a resolution of 240x320 (QVGA), which reproduces up to 256 thousand tones. The resistive sensor has good sensitivity. The angular view is small, when you turn to the right, the color is inverted, to the left - they fade, down and up - the brightness slightly disappears. But on the other hand, there is good color rendition and high brightness (and there is no way to reduce it through the settings), due to which the screen practically does not fade in bright light.

The phone has a proximity sensor. If you bring the device to your ear during a call, the backlight will automatically turn off. The sensor will react instantly, there were no problems during the tests.

Camera

The Nokia X3-02 has a 5 MP camera. As with the majority of new Nokia devices (except for N8), autofocus is absent, which, of course, does not please. Autofocus has been replaced by FULLFOCUS technology - in which, thanks to the special features of the lens construction, both the foreground and background are clearly visible. When using the camera with FULLFOCUS at a distance of more than 2 m, you will not feel the difference compared to autofocus-perfect pictures. In other words, if you take pictures of mostly distant objects, nature, then such a camera will be a good choice for you.

The limiting resolution for photographs is 2592 x 1944 pixels, for video - 640 x 480 at 15 frames / sec. There is no dedicated camera key.

The photos come out of very good quality. If we compare it with the Nokia E5, then the E5 has a slightly worse detail, however, they photograph about the same macro. The camera in the software has noise reduction and in fact, night photos come out with almost no digital noise. Video shooting is of average quality, there is a lack of the number of frames and smooth exposure. The sound is not very good, not surprising, because the bit rate is only 8 KHz, as a result, very poor clarity.

Photo album

The display can hold up to 12 thumbnails. Swiping your finger vertically across the screen will scroll. The photo can be opened by clicking on one of the thumbnails. On the left side there are icons for deleting photos, editing or sending via message, mail, uploading to the Internet, sending via Bluetooth.

Photos are opened and scrolled at high speed. With the help of the menu it is possible to increase (up to approx. 1000%).

Software platform

Nokia X3-02 operates on the S40 Touch system. It's a classic S40, but with touch controls in mind. By my feelings, the speed of performance is very significant, all applications open instantly. There is no multitasking, but either the radio or the player can work in memory, which are turned on with a special "media" button.

As it became known during the test, X3-02 outperforms all the previously listed phones and smartphones, with the exception of Nokia 5800.

The central display can be conditionally divided into five zones: the signal strength of the operator, the battery indicator and various icons, such as WiFi, Bluetooth, are shown at the top, various widgets are displayed in the lower three, and the area below is the link bar.

The integrated browser on Nokia X3-02 works with great speed and does not differ much in comparison with the browsers installed on smartphones with Symbian. It has support for Adobe Flashlite 3.0, but full support for Flash is not discussed here.The only one, not very convenient in the phone, turned out to be scaling, which works by pressing the + or - button, however, of course, we are not talking about multi-touch.

In the application area, there is also Opera 5.0.2 mini - an economical and convenient browser.

Memory, file operations

The device has 50 Megabytes of internal memory. It is possible to expand the memory with a microSD flash card (up to a maximum of 16 Gigabytes). There is no file manager as such in the X3-02 phone, although it is possible to rename, copy, move, delete and transfer files and folders in the "Advanced" section of the menu.

Communications

This paragraph should list the WIFI 802.11 b, g, n, Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0 interface (microUSB connector), GPRS and 3G HSDPA.

During testing, WIFI worked properly, without causing the slightest criticism. Someone might argue that such an ordinary device with a small WIFI display is not particularly needed, but such an option is unconditionally necessary.

The player has a five-band equalizer, which makes it possible to change the settings to your liking. To do this, click on Reg. 1 or Reg. 2 and click on the equalizer icon. The transition to the next audio track is possible by clicking on the corresponding button on the display, or by pressing the button on the headset.

The player can play such music codecs: mp3, WMA, EAAC + and EAAC, AAC.

Sound

The sound quality when listening through headphones is normal (however, there is an obvious lack of low-frequency characteristics), the volume is quite significant. Surprisingly, the X3-02 can work perfectly with the Sennheiser HD515 headphones.

The volume of the external speaker is also significant, and even when the volume is turned on, there are no wheezing sounds. A huge plus is that such a high-quality speaker fits into such a thin case.

FM radio

The device has an FM receiver that supports RDS. Good sound quality with a predominance of mid frequencies, confident reception. The memory of radio stations is not large - only 20. Going to the next station is possible by clicking on the corresponding button on the display, or by pressing a button on the headset.

It is possible to turn on playback from the speaker: the sound volume is slightly louder than average. In the absence of a headset, which traditionally serves as an antenna, the radio will not work.

Video player

Surprisingly, however, it is located in the subsection Music, then Video clips. A pleasant surprise was the ability of X3-02 to play AVI files (ie DIVX or Xvid codecs) - and even now not all smartphones can do this. In addition, you can view 3gp and MP4. The highest allowed video resolution is 640x360. In addition, the player can play videos in full screen mode, and there is also an equalizer setting. Naturally, watching movies on a 2.4-inch screen is not a great pleasure, but that is what it is.

The X3-02 has no direct competitors, but I have found a couple of candidates for a potential replacement.

Acer E200 Betouch

This is a smartphone with OS - Windows Mobile 6.5. It is also equipped with a touchscreen display and an ordinary keyboard.The phone's advantages include: high - 240x400 screen resolution, large display - 3 inches and a good amount of RAM - 256 Megabytes. Unfortunately, it lacks WIFI, and the price of the Acer is comparatively high.

Nokia 6700 Classic

It has a classic type of case - candy bar, works on the S40 system and does not boast of a touch screen. Its main feature is the presence of a 5MP camera with autofocus, which records video at 30 frames per second. and with a resolution of 640x480. The phone's screen can display up to 16 million colors and has a resolution of 320x240, but its diagonal size is slightly smaller than that of the X3-02. Plus, there is no WIFI or AVI playback capability.

Samsung Monte GT-S5620

The touchphone has a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 240x400 and WIFI support. The 3-megapixel camera can shoot video at 15 frames per second. and with a resolution of 320x240.

Nokia X2

The hardware platform of the S40 device, the screen diagonal is 2.2 inches, the 5 MP camera does not have autofocus, but still has a flash. X2 does not have WIFI and cannot play AVI files. In addition, the body of the device is not made of the highest quality materials.

Conclusion

After testing the Nokia X3-02 phone left only positive impressions. Excellent appearance, excellent assembly, high quality case materials. The functionality is at a good level: a combination of an ordinary keyboard and a touch screen, the presence of WIFI, a 5-megapixel camera, the ability to play video in AVI format and a speaker with high volume. As stated in one of the comments on the device, this phone is intended for those who still have not decided - it is more inclined towards classic phones with keyboards or touchphones. Here "2 in one", and everything is very worthy.

Carefully trying to find the detailed negative aspects of the X3-02, I almost failed to do this. Even the cost did not work out, now it is only $ 215. There are some people who scold the phone for not having a joystick, however, in my opinion, this is just a matter of habit. Well, all other disadvantages are insignificant and are easily compensated for by the price.
