HOW TO CHOOSE A Punching bag - how to choose a punching bag for home, for a child

Why in the title of the article we are talking about how to choose a punching bag, but in the article we are talking about a bag? Because the correct name for this machine (of any shape) is a punching bag.

Padding is the trickiest part when choosing a boxing bag. Some of its types may be traumatic or unsuitable for full training. The best packing is the one that more closely mimics the properties of the human body when struck in the liver. And it's not a joke.

There are 5 types of bag filling.

  1. Only sawdust

The simulator turns out to be too light, dust flies from the cracks when hitting. It is easily deformed, which is why it quickly loses its shape.

  2. Sand combined with sawdust or crumb rubber

The sand gradually settles to the bottom, it becomes dangerously hard, and the top is too soft.

  3. Rubber crumb in pure form or in combination with sand or sawdust

Has a too strong odor. It is traumatic, because it is too springy on impact, returning some of the energy back. In combination with sawdust, it settles into the lower part of the bag.

  4. Rags (scraps of fabric)

An excellent energy absorber with a good imitation of the properties of the body.

  5. Water

Closest to the properties of the body, but requires a strong hermetic shell.

How to choose a punching bag by upholstery material

The task of the upholstery is to maintain the shape of the bag for as long as possible.

  1. Awning material (impregnated tarpaulin)

The cheapest, easy to clean, but easy to deform.

  2. Leather

Expensive, it protects the simulator well from deformation. The thicker the skin, the better. Leatherette is worse in properties, and tarpaulin leather quickly erases gloves due to its roughness.

The best bag is one that combines padding with foam padding. The gasket protects the projectile from deformation for a very long time, even with awning upholstery.

Which punching bag is better

Look at two parameters.

  1. Weight

An adult bag should be approximately equal to the boxer's weight, +/- 10 kg. For a child, the shells are lighter: from 5 to 30 kg.

  2. Length

For use with hands only: athlete's body length + head.

For multi-level strikes: body length + head + hips length.

How to choose a punching bag for your home

  1. Fastening

The best mount is ceiling (suspended), if you do not have a stretch or plasterboard ceiling. It gives more freedom in setting up the simulator and when working with it.

If the ceiling is not possible, they are mounted on a wall frame.

  2. Hook attachment

It is optimal when there is a ring at the top of the bag to which the textile straps are attached.
