Useful Tips

Overview of punchers.

With the help of the representative offices of manufacturing companies, who kindly provided us with their tools, several models of perforators were selected for a small test. Models differ in names (famous and lesser-known brands), class (household and professional), technical characteristics and, of course, price. They have one thing in common - all perforators are "plus".

Among others, two cordless rotary hammers were tested. Probably, many consumers will be interested in learning more about this kind of machine. Despite the fact that they are now much more expensive than their network "counterparts", they may be the future.

We were not faced with the task of arranging multi-kilometer races for the instruments, to see how long they would last. The assessment of each model was based, of course, on subjective impressions - where can we go without them? This is still a mini-test, not a full-scale test. So the dacha was chosen as an experimental site. The amount of work that can (and should!) Be done in the country is probably everyone. Drills with a diameter of 8 mm (one of the most common) and 18 mm (less common, but closer to the maximum technically allowed by rock drills), as well as a bit were used as rigging.

Makita HR 3200 C

Three-mode rotary hammer SDS-Plus

DESIGN: SDS-Plus rotary hammer HR 3200 C - development of achievements of the previous "brainchild" of Makita - HR 3100. Compared with it, the new model, while maintaining the same technical parameters, has increased drilling efficiency (according to the company, by 30 percent) and increased resource. In addition, the machine is now equipped with the AVT anti-vibration system, which significantly reduces vibration levels.

Personal feeling: due to the fact that the trigger is solid and long, when pressing it, it is not necessary to keep the hand "under the ceiling" of the handle - the trigger can be pressed by keeping it in the center. That is, the position of the hand is changed if desired.

Vertical rock drill, three-mode (plus a fourth mode for setting the bit). The switch, located on the top of the housing, is flush-mounted. This is convenient, because in this case it is really possible to work with the tool, for example, close to a wall or any other surface.

Let's note the electronic stuffing of the device. It is equipped with speed control and constant electronics and soft start. There are also light indicators: one signals the need to replace the carbon brushes, and the second reports a malfunction of the network cable or switch.

EQUIPMENT: The kit includes a depth gauge, lubricant for drill shanks, and an additional handle, about which a few words should be said. For greater convenience, it is embossed - so that the palm does not slip and the user has better control over the operation of the tool, really "felt" it. The clamp is very reliable, and there is no doubt that the handle will not move out during the drilling process.

WORK: Of the rotary hammers presented in our test, this model is not only one of the most powerful, but also, perhaps, the most capable - just look at its characteristics. Therefore, during the work, not only an 18-mm drill was used, but also a 26-mm one, which is closer in diameter to the maximum value. The very first expectations were justified: these diameters did not cause any difficulties.

As for working in chiseling mode, the machine seemed not very convenient for chipping tiles. Still, it weighs decently, although the weight is just optimal for performing direct functions.

SUMMARY: a powerful tool for working with large diameter tooling. Technical capabilities and adjustments will ensure efficient and stable operation.

BoschPBH3000-2 FRE

Three-mode rotary hammer SDS-Plus

DESIGN: household Bosch models are infrequent guests not only of our reviews, but also of tests. The brand has a lot to do, which is why high demands are placed on Bosch tools from the outset. Moreover, in many parameters and indicators, "green" models are not inferior to professional tools. The same can be said about the PBH 3000-2 FRE rock drill, which proved to be excellent in tests.

In terms of technical characteristics, this machine is quite serious, and it is quite "on the shoulder" to solve a wide range of tasks. The indicators are good both in impact force and in drilling and chiselling diameters. Add to this the presence of a two-speed gearbox, which allows you to change the speed depending on the purpose of work, as well as electronic speed control. By the way, an interesting and useful feature of the speed switch design: you can change the gear only in rotation mode, which is achieved thanks to the shape of the switches and the speed and modes.

Outwardly, the machine seems somewhat heavy, either because of the plastic shell that covers the metal housing of the gearbox, or because of the D-shaped handle. The main grip is quite comfortable, also thanks to the rubber pads.

Another plus is the long tool cord (4 m). In suburban conditions, for example, when you have to work away from outlets, and the extension cord often does not reach, every extra meter is of great importance.

EQUIPMENT: in the case in which this model is supplied, in addition to an additional handle with a wing clamp and a plastic depth gauge, you can find "bonuses" in the form of a metal keyless chuck and a chisel. Thanks to the use of the BZP (and, by the way, it is not on all models of this series of Bosch household rotary hammers) the machine becomes even more versatile. Replacing the "plus" clamp with a chuck is quick and easy, it does not require much effort.

WORK: the perforator drilled "imperceptibly". That is, it passed the material very quickly, efficiently, softly and with little vibration. There were no problems with the chisel - both tiles were easily chipped and pieces of material. By the way, the certain weight of the instrument proved to be excellent when working in the pure strike mode. It turned out to be very convenient to hold such a tool vertically, which works, in fact, not only with a chisel, but also with its own weight, also thanks to the closed grasping handle. The hammer drill is able to drill even large diameters, and it is better to use high-quality "consumables".

SUMMARY: an excellent model of a technical household tool, which in many respects will not be inferior to a professional puncher.

Skil1765

Three-mode rotary hammer SDS-Plus

DESIGN: Model 1765 is the representative of the new professional Skil Masters line. This is a three-mode rock drill (plus the ability to set the bit in any position) of the longitudinal arrangement. The main handle is closed D-shape, at the back there is a large rubber pad, moreover, grooved so that the hand does not slip. The additional side handle is also grooved: rubber inserts are applied in places of particularly close contact with the user's hand.

The tool is equipped with an electronic speed control system (wheel on the trigger), which underlines its versatility. The reverse switch is located above the trigger.

EQUIPMENT: The kit includes an additional handle with a depth gauge, as well as a jaw-type drill chuck with an adapter.

WORK: the impact energy (2.3 J) cannot be called significant. However, it was quite enough to perform various operations. And the indicators of the maximum drilling diameters are not the latest. The puncher made 8 mm holes easily. With 18 mm, the instrument added to the hassle, but it passed this test quite well. In the pure impact mode, he coped with both tile chipping and “pure destruction” - crumbling concrete. It should be noted that the second task is more suitable for the hammer drill than the first.

Difficulties arose when working with the key cartridge. The cartridge, installed through the adapter into the "plus" clamp, had a backlash. And the machine itself seemed too bulky for drilling. However, if you do not have a drill at hand, and you only need to make a few holes, then the tool is suitable for this. Of course, it cannot serve as an equivalent replacement for a drill.

The vibration is moderate, but the noise from the working tool is slightly higher than usual.

SUMMARY: a sufficiently functional tool corresponding to its class. More suitable for working on a profile, and not for use as a drill.

Kress240 PAHSET

Cordless Dual Mode Rotary Hammer SDS-Plus

DESIGN: Cordless rotary hammer Kress 240 PAH - outwardly the tool is simple. Actually, the perforator itself has a classic horizontal layout, and with it a battery, which forms a kind of bracket that protects the user's hand. The battery is securely fixed: to disconnect it, you need to "talk" with two locks. There are two switches on the body - operating modes and reverse. Moreover, they are quite tight, which is not bad in terms of security. From the "filling" we note the safety clutch.

The tool is quite compact considering its high technical capabilities. The two-piece handle fits well in the hand for increased comfort. At the same time, the main handle, according to personal feelings, is not as comfortable as we would like.

The car is powered by either a nickel-cadmium battery or a nickel-metal hydride battery, the difference between which is in ampere-hours and, as a result, in the number of holes made on one battery charge.

EQUIPMENT: The set includes two batteries, a charger, an additional handle with a drilling depth limiter, a BZP, an adapter for screwdriver bits and a battery belt cable. The tool is delivered in a professional suitcase. It is metallic, therefore, it should be noted, pretty heavy.

WORK: in terms of performance and a number of parameters, this cordless rotary hammer is quite comparable to network models. And he is in the "teeth" to work not only with soft materials. If work with 8-mm drills was fast, then with 18 mm the machine had to "sweat". In general, it is better not to use a rig with an almost peak diameter, but I wanted to try it. As a result, it took about 3.5 minutes to drill five holes 18x80 mm. Vibration when working with large equipment, although it is more noticeable than when using smaller equipment, is still kept within reasonable limits.

Loved the battery belt cable. It will come in handy in cases where it is inconvenient to work with a hammer drill in "full" form, that is, with a battery. This can be, for example, in a confined space. You unfasten the battery, plug in the adapter and attach it to your belt - it's both convenient and easier for your hands.

SUMMARY: a good tool with performance comparable to that of power drills and with the original advantages of battery technology.

Sparky BPR 261 E

Three-mode rotary hammer SDS-Plus

DESIGN: The hammer drill is distinguished by the laconic rigor of design, which is often found in professional tools, designed for work, and not for external effects.

The layout is classic horizontal. However, the body is narrow and slightly elongated. Probably, the difference is literally 2-4 cm in comparison with many rotary hammers of this class can affect, for example, when working in a confined space. But nevertheless, in a certain respect, it is convenient: it turned out to be easier to rest with the hand, which holds on to the additional handle. By the way, it is made of metal, and this provides a closer "interaction" with the body of the machine. The gearbox is made of magnesium alloy, which means, as you know, lighter weight and improved heat dissipation. There is a forced mechanism for cooling the motor. On the box is a mode switch.

The main handle is thick, comfortable. On the back there is a soft pad. The trigger is grabbing. The reverse switch above the trigger is a little "loose": during operation it happened to be inadvertently shifted, but it is quite possible that such a model just came across.

The car is equipped with a fairly powerful engine. The impact energy produced by the instrument is also noteworthy - 3.1 J. The ratio of impact energy to power is at the highest level. So is the ratio of weight to energy. And during the work it showed itself.

Sparky BPR 261 E is equipped with electronic speed control (trigger wheel) and a safety clutch. Another advantage is the long cord.

EQUIPMENT: standard, "at a minimum": additional handle and drill depth stop.

WORK: the perforator has proven itself perfectly. As expected from the outset, it worked well with both small and large tooling. When working with a fixed switch, the revolutions did not fall. The vibration, although felt, was still at a relatively low level. No overheating of the gearbox housing was observed.

When working in the pure chiseling mode, the hammer was also at its best. And in terms of the quality of the blows (the chipped tiles did not particularly crumble, did not fly in different directions, but gently moved away from the material), and in terms of the level of comfort of use. The elongated body of the device played a positive role here.

SUMMARY: robust, reliable and capable of good performance, the hammer drill that will find its place in the toolbox of professionals and amateurs.

DeWALT D25123K

Three-mode rotary hammer SDS-Plus

DESIGN: three-mode rotary hammer with a classic horizontal layout. The design is industrial, but the car looks elegant in its own way. And the streamlined body shape is pleasing to the eye. The main handle is rubberized, which is very convenient when using, but when working with a punch, this is still not the last indicator. The additional handle is embossed, the hand will not slip. An interesting clip for a depth gauge is a plastic button.

The D25123K is perhaps one of the most compact plus-size rock drills in its weight category. Small in size (length and height - 352x200 mm), it is also light - only 2.9 kg, powerful - 800 W, with an impact energy of 3.4 J. If you calculate the ratio of mass and impact energy, as well as mass and power , this is a wonderful indicator! That is, if the same ratio of mass and impact energy is usually considered a normal indicator, here the advantage is in favor of energy - by almost a whole joule. When "communicating" with the material, this will undoubtedly manifest itself.

On top of the body there is a switch for the direction of rotation. For safety, there is a safety clutch.

Of the shortcomings, I would note the commit button. In my opinion, it is not very convenient: it is not located as usual, that is, not on the side of the main handle, but under the trigger in the form of a small "slider". You need to move it with your little finger, and this is problematic (and it is easy to move it during work), so you have to help with the other hand.

EQUIPMENT: the kit (supplied in a suitcase), in addition to the device itself, includes an additional handle and a depth gauge. In the D25123C version, the kit is supplemented with a jaw chuck with an adapter for "plus" clamping. Considering the modest dimensions of the hammer drill, it can be assumed that it will be convenient to use the tool for conventional drilling. This also applies to operating the machine as a screwdriver.

WORK: For the machine, whose maximum diameter when working with concrete is 26 mm, drilling with an 8-mm drill did not cause any trouble: the tool was instantly drilled into the "rock" and a depth of 5-6 cm passed in a matter of seconds.A drill with a diameter of 18 mm, close to the "ceiling", also turned out to be, one might say, "native" for the instrument: it passed the same depth in 12-15 seconds. At the same time, judging by the sensations, the car did not work for wear and tear - it has a serious reserve of power. Chipping off tiles with such a compact tool is also handy. The vibration is small.

SUMMARY: an excellent tool - very lightweight, compact, but at the same time with serious technical characteristics, capable of showing itself in solving a variety of tasks.

PanasonicEY 6813 NQKW

Cordless Dual Mode Rotary Hammer SDS-Plus

DESIGN: The hammer drill at first glance made the impression of a sturdy professional tool. The lack of spectacular external frills is compensated by high manufacturability and functionality.

The device is two-mode - there is no pure shock, but at the same time it is equipped with a two-speed gearbox. The speed is changed by a switch on the body. In drilling mode, low gear (switch position "S") is suitable for woodworking - it requires high torque. And the top gear (position "H") - for drilling metal, where high speed is important. The gearbox will also work in the hammer drilling mode - here there is no longer a limitation of speed, but of the impact force. The lowest gear is for "communication" with soft material (or with concrete, but with small diameters), the highest gear is for concrete. Choosing high-speed and shock modes, you can "adjust" to a particular material. In addition, the hammer drill is equipped with a reverse function.

The main handle is very comfortable. It is "belted" with thick rubber pads that make the work really comfortable. The trigger is rubberized and thus protected from dust.

The battery is securely attached. It not only fits tightly, without "loosening" into the corresponding groove, but also closes with a metal latch, which will not accidentally open. The instrument does not weigh much. Moreover, the weight is distributed very well: the machine is compact and balanced.

EQUIPMENT: the delivery set includes two batteries, a charger, an additional handle with a depth gauge and a corrugated dust collector (a proprietary and technological version of homemade "additions" from plastic bottles). Various accessories can be purchased separately if required. For example, a special adapter will allow you to use a chisel.

WORK: the maximum drill diameter that is suitable for working with a hammer drill is 14.5 mm. That is, theoretically (and, most likely, practically) the tool will "digest" and larger equipment: there are all the "power" prerequisites for this. But why? Medium diameter tooling is likely to be optimal.

He worked with a drill with a diameter of 8 mm. To check the battery power, I did not specifically time it. However, the hammer drilled 25 holes 5 mm deep without any problems. Apparently, the charge would be enough for further work. The vibration level is low.

SUMMARY: a powerful and technologically advanced tool of high functionality, suitable primarily for working with the most common tool diameters.

Bosch GBH 2-23 REA Professional

Dual modeperforatorSDS-Plus

DESIGN: Bosch GBH 2-23 REA is a compact tool, but at the same time quite powerful: 650 W with a weight of 2.3 kg (you can, if necessary, work with one hand, especially since the handle is comfortable). This, as well as other indicators, such as impact energy, indicate that the machine is productive. The punch is dual-mode, there is no “blow only” position on the mode switch.

The brush holder is swivel, which means that the rotation speed in both directions will be the same. The machine is also equipped with a safety clutch.

The most interesting feature of this rock drill is the dust extraction system. (Its presence is indicated by the last letter in the marking.) The design, which is attached to the tool, does not make it much heavier, since its main parts are made of plastic. However, when assembled, everything looks a bit cumbersome. But such systems always have both "pluses" in the form of efficient waste collection, and "minuses" in the form of this very cumbersomeness.

The dust extraction system is put on the body, for which there are special guides. It is convenient to control the filling degree of the cartridge: it is transparent. There is a filter inside the cartridge that is easy to remove and clean.

EQUIPMENT: in the case, the consumer will find a hammer drill, an additional handle and a drilling depth stop.

WORK: The hammer drill has easily proven its performance. He made holes with an 8 mm drill with a bang: one took 6-8 seconds. When working with an 18 mm drill, the revolutions did not fall when the switch was fixed. Vibration is negligible.

SUMMARY: a powerful, technical and compact dual-mode rotary hammer, complete with a dust extraction system that will keep the workplace clean.

MilwaukeePLH26 QEX

Three-mode rotary hammer SDS-Plus

DESIGN: the layout of the Milwaukee PLH 26 QEX rotary hammer is vertical. Small "non-standard" is in the little things. For example, the reverse switch is located at the bottom of the case. The body itself, by the way, is made of magnesium alloy, which made it possible to reduce the weight of the instrument.

There are three operating modes: drilling, drilling and clean blow. There is also a "fourth mode" - setting the bit to any angular position. In addition, the hammer drill is equipped with a soft impact function (switch under the handle). It is chosen for working with fragile materials so as not to damage them.

One of the features of the machine is an anti-vibration system: the main handle, equipped with a soft pad, is attached to the body through shock absorbers that absorb vibrations. The additional handle is “grippy”: it is tight and it turned out to be comfortable to work with this tool.

Another nice "little thing" is the four-meter cable of the QuikLok system, which allows you to disconnect it.

EQUIPMENT: the tool is delivered in a plastic case, in which you can also find an additional handle with a drilling depth limiter, drill lubricant. Also included is a metal single-sleeve keyless chuck.

WORK: the car has proven itself in all "sports". Drilling with various "calibers" did not cause problems, as well as clean chiselling - during testing, I broke the bridges between the holes made in the concrete. Probably, when knocking down ceramic tiles (especially in cramped conditions), a more compact tool would be more appropriate, but it was for slotting work that the Milwaukee hammer worked perfectly.

Replacing an SDS-Plus clamp with a BZP is a matter of seconds thanks to the FixTec system. In general, the cartridge fits well, and there is no backlash. Therefore, it is quite possible to use a hammer drill for conventional drilling, the weight allows. In addition, replacing the cartridge does not increase the dimensions. When drilling, I liked the work of the device with the use of larger equipment.

As it seemed, the trigger is not very convenient. That is, it is quite common and characteristic, however, it is located at the top of the handle, and the hand itself reached out to grab below. But, again, these are subjective feelings.

SUMMARY: hammer drill with a wide range of features and functions. It not only possesses high technical characteristics, but also makes the work comfortable.
