Review Samsung NC10 Netbook

One of the most promising competitors of Asus' Eee lineup are Samsung netbooks, in particular the Samsung NC10 model, which with the same hardware characteristics is capable of providing long battery life. In addition, the NC10 has a great design.

The Samsung NC10 is the first netbook to be released by Samsung. It is worth noting that the Korean manufacturer coped with the task very well. At the moment, the Samsung NC10 netbook is able to compete with all the top models on the market today.

Netbook case Samsung NC10

Samsung products have long been distinguished by attractive designs. In the case of the NC10 laptop, the company has shown that it can produce products not only with great design, but also at a fairly low cost.

The Samsung NC10 has a glossy finish and is also anti-fingerprint and dustproof. Despite the fact that the body of the device is protected from fingerprints, the user will still have to clean the chrome strip from time to time.

On the strength of the case, the Samsung NC10 also did not cause any complaints. The main body and lid of the display are made of a metal alloy, which undoubtedly gives the body its strength and, in addition, makes it quite pleasant to the touch.

The strength characteristics of the lid were also encouraging. It pivots easily and provides reliable pressure protection.

But, unfortunately, the hinges that hold the top cover are made of plastic. Despite this, they securely fix the position of the lid.

The maximum opening angle of the lid is 140 °, thanks to which you can work with the device in almost any position.

Samsung NC10 netbook interfaces

The connection capabilities of this unit are typical of most modern netbooks. On the case there are: USB 2.0, VGA-out, audio ports (for microphone and headphones), LAN port and a standard SD card reader.

The placement of the interfaces is not very convenient, but you get used to it quickly. The two USB ports are located on the left-hand side, very close to the front panel. The third port is located on the right-hand side.

At the front there is only an SD card reader. On the left side, in addition to two USB ports, there is also a connector for a charger and a LAN input.

Unfortunately, our device does not have a built-in Bluetooth module. This is a rather serious drawback for a netbook, but for a little extra you can get a version of this netbook that has a built-in Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR module.

Above the display is a 1.3 megapixel webcam. The quality of this camera is enough only for video conferencing over the Internet.

Input devices of netbook Samsung NC10

The size of the keys The keys have a fairly convenient size of 1.7 x 1.7 centimeters.

I had no complaints about the keyboard of this device. You can quickly get used to this keyboard unit due to the fact that it has a standard layout.

The touchpad of this device is not as comfortable as it seems at first glance, primarily due to the fact that it has a small size. Moreover, it has a scrolling field.

It turned out to be a very pleasant moment that the touchpad of this device supports multitouch technology, although the manufacturer did not indicate this when describing the laptop.

Samsung NC10 netbook display

Samsung NC10 is equipped with a 10.2-inch screen. The display with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels is made using WSVGA SuperBright LCD technology. Ego will be quite enough for working with documents, viewing images, etc., but due to the small size of the screen, the scrolling function has to be used quite often.

The illumination of the screen did not bring any surprises. As it should be, the brightest part of the display is located in the center, its value reaches 223 cd / m2. The average illumination value is 76.6%.

The Samsung NC10's screen also performed well in the contrast test. The contrast ratio was 507: 1, with a black value of 0.44cd / m2.

By ditching the glossy screen, the Samsung NC10 has nothing to lose. The screen has an anti-reflective coating and can be easily used outdoors even in bright sunlight. In this case, the picture on the display will be completely distinguishable.

As expected, the viewing angles in the horizontal plane are quite large, but when testing the viewing angles of the vertical plane, typical picture distortions immediately became noticeable.

Netbook performance Samsung NC10

Looking inside the Samsung NC10 netbook, we found an Intel Atom N270 processor running at 1.6 GHz and an integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics card. Most netbooks now have the same hardware, as Intel has almost completely captured the netbook components market.

Netbooks are mainly used for office work: printing documents, sending letters, preparing reports, and other work that does not require powerful hardware.

A distinctive feature of the NC10 netbook is the built-in Fujisu MHZ2160BH hard drive with a capacity of 160 GB and a spindle speed of 5400 rpm. Having passed the HDTune test, the Samsung NC10 showed very good results.

In terms of RAM, Samsung was a little greedy, the Samsung NC10 netbook has 1GB DDR2 memory, which somewhat limits the possibilities of using the netbook.

In the 3DMark benchmark test, the Samsung NC10 performed pretty well with 3,044 points.

System noise of Samsung NC10 netbook

Now let's talk about the cooling system of the Samsung NC10 netbook. It is much better than other similar netbooks. The ventilation system of the device is almost constantly running, even when simple operations are performed that do not require large system resources. When measuring noise, a figure of 31.6 dB (A) was obtained - this figure is quite good for a modern netbook.

Samsung NC10 netbook temperature

During testing in various load modes, the netbook was able to warm it up to only 31 ° C, and the average case temperature was 29.4 ° C.

Battery life

The set with the Samsung NC10 laptop includes a powerful 6-cell lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh (57.7 Wh). In order to estimate the battery life of the device, we used the BatteryEater Readers app, which showed us pretty good results. With the standard battery in power saving mode with minimum screen brightness and WLAN off, the Samsung NC10 ran for 512 minutes (almost 9 hours). Under load the NC10 achieved 239 minutes (almost 4 hours). At maximum load, the netbook showed 366 minutes of operation (about 6 hours).

In real conditions, the results were slightly different, however, also acceptable.

The results of the review of the netbook Samsung NC10

The Samsung NC10 netbook confidently takes the first place in its price category, having moved from this place the Asus Eee PC 1000H netbook.

Although the leader has its drawbacks. For example, the USB ports are not well located. And if you buy the entry-level model of this line, you will find that it doesn't even have Bluetooth.

Although we find the keyboard on the Samsung NC10 netbook the most comfortable, it is worth mentioning that this is purely the opinion of those people who have evaluated the NC10. The display of this model pleased us. Although it does not produce phenomenal results in responsiveness, thanks to its design, matte finish and good brightness, it allows you to use the netbook even outdoors in bright sunlight, which is important.
