Review Asus G53SX Notebook

The Republic of Gamers (ROG) trademark was founded in 2006 by the world famous ASUS. The products of this line support the most modern and innovative technologies. Here you can see high-end devices such as video cards, laptops, overclocking and gaming motherboards.

At the end of 2007, ASUS introduced a series of gaming notebooks, which received the "G" index. Today we will get acquainted with one of the representatives of this series, the 15.6-inch ASUS G53SX gaming laptop.

Contents of delivery

Laptop ASUS G53SX has a very impressive delivery set. Inside the cardboard box, in addition to the device itself, we found: a rechargeable battery, a power supply unit with cables, disks with a set of necessary drivers, various brochures. In addition, the manufacturer has put in a number of components for real gamers. These include a laptop backpack, gaming mouse and 3D glasses.

Design

Those users who have ever seen what the F-117 tactical stealth strike aircraft also known as the Night hawk looks like will immediately see a certain similarity in the design of this ASUS G53SX gaming laptop and the ultra-expensive military aircraft. If you look at the laptop from the back, you will notice two wide openings in the shape of the air intakes and nozzles of the F-117 aircraft. And the faceted shape of the device has a lot in common with its contours.

ASUS G53SX is completely covered with matte Soft-touch plastic, which outwardly resembles the coating of the F-117 Stealth fighter-bomber. In this laptop, you will not see bright and defiant backlighting, and its design can be described as stylish and austere. On the surface of the top cover there are logos "Republic of Gamers" and "ASUS", and if the inscription "ASUS" was applied in gray paint, then the ROG emblem was embossed.

If we talk about the dimensions of the laptop, they are quite impressive, so the front thinnest part of the ASUS G53SX is 30 mm thick, and the thickest is 60 mm. The overall dimensions of the laptop are 391x297x30-60 mm, and its weight reaches 3.92 kg.

Display and sound

ASUS G53SX is equipped with a 15.6-inch glossy display with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. It has good brightness and is quite high quality. But the viewing angles cannot be called ideal, although they also do not cause any special complaints.

The main feature of the display is that it supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz. As a result, stereo images can be displayed on such a screen using advanced NVIDIA 3D Vision software. The laptop comes with wireless 3D glasses. Synchronization is performed using a transmitter located near the webcam.

Sound system ASUS G53SX consists of two stereo speakers hidden under the keyboard. This audio system is characterized by high sound quality across almost the entire frequency range. Even if the volume is raised to the maximum value, there will be no distortion in the sound.

Keyboard and touchpad

The ASUS G53SX laptop has a full-size island-style keyboard. All keys are located at a fairly large distance of arcs from each other, so if accidental pressing on neighboring buttons happens, it is very rare, and this is important for gamers. In addition, this keyboard also has a numeric keypad - a numpad. The keys themselves have a flat surface and are characterized by a smooth and quiet stroke. By the way, this keyboard has one more advantage - backlighting. However, there is also a minus, although it can rather be attributed to a flaw in the structure of the case - the keyboard sags noticeably.

In addition to the main buttons, the laptop also has separate keys, they are located above the keyboard unit. One of them includes a laptop, and the other two are responsible for multimedia functions.

If the laptop keyboard is very actively used by gamers, then the use of the touchpad for gaming purposes is a very dubious pleasure, but the engineers at ASUS decided to pay quite a lot of attention to the touchpad. The manipulator installed in ASUS G53SX is large. Like a laptop, it has a matte surface. In addition, the touch pad supports multi-touch gestures. Among the disadvantages of the touchpad, we want to highlight its buttons, they are pressed tightly and at the same time emit a loud and unpleasant sound.

Performance

ASUS G53SX goes on sale with a pre-installed 64-bit operating system Windows 7 Home Premium.

Now let's take a closer look at the technical characteristics. The laptop is based on a rather powerful quad-core Intel Core i7-2630QM processor, its L3 cache has a volume of 6 MB. Thanks to Turbo Boost technology, the processor clock speed can be increased from 2000 MHz to 2900 MHz. In addition, this CPU supports Hyper-Threading technology. With its help, it can simultaneously process up to 8 data streams. We add that the Intel Core i7-2630QM processor is built on the Sandy Bridge microarchitecture according to the 32 nm process technology and is equipped with an integrated graphics card.

The Asus G53SX laptop, in addition to an integrated video card, has a discrete video adapter NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M. This video card has been produced since 2010, therefore it is already well known to users for its ability to provide high performance in games and when working with graphics programs. It has its own 2048 MB GDDR5 memory, a 256-bit memory interface and is built using a 40-nanometer process technology. If we talk about its performance, then it will be able to "pull" almost all the most modern and demanding games, and even at high settings.

Another important component capable of providing good performance is RAM. The ASUS G53SX laptop has two DDR3-1333 MHz RAM bars with a total volume of 8 GB. Of course, for most games and solving everyday tasks, this volume will be quite enough, but if you want to increase it, then the maximum possible volume can be 16 GB.

A hard drive with a capacity of 1000 GB is responsible for storing information. This capacity should be enough for both a movie and music lover and the most inveterate gamer. We would like to add that the hard drive operates at 7200 rpm.

Ports and communications

Gaming laptops have always had a fairly rich set of ports. ASUS G53SX, due to its considerable dimensions, has received almost all the most famous ports. Note that all ports are mostly moved closer to the front edge of the device.

Most of the interfaces are on the right side. Here you can see two audio jacks for connecting a microphone and headphones, an analog VGA jack, a digital HDMI interface, one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0, an RJ-45 network controller connector. By the way, there is one controversial point, namely the power connector located on this side. Since the mouse is usually located on the right, there is a high probability that the power supply wires will interfere with work.

The left side has only two USB 2.0 ports and an optical drive.

The back side is occupied by the battery, and two Kensington locks can be seen on either side of it.

On the front of the laptop there is a card reader and a set of LED indicators.

Wireless technologies are represented by Wi-Fi b / g / n and Bluetooth 3.0 adapters.

Battery

Autonomous operation of the ASUS G53SX laptop is provided by an 8-section Li-Ion 5200 mAh battery. If we talk about the battery life, then, like all similar gaming models, it is rather short, since the laptop can work for a maximum of two hours. Thus, one should not expect great autonomy from this laptop, because it has a powerful filling, which means that the level of energy consumption will also be quite high.

Conclusion

ASUS G53SX is an excellent gaming laptop that differs from many similar devices with its unique design, stylized as the F-117 tactical multipurpose aircraft. Its strengths include support for NVIDIA 3D Vision technology and an excellent cooling system. However, there are some notes on ergonomics, for example, to the deflections in the keyboard area. But, in general, ASUS G53SX confidently occupies its niche in the market of modern gaming laptops.
