Review Prestigio MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO 8.0 Tablet

In the modern market for mobile devices, users are offered a wide range of tablets of different screen sizes. The greatest demand is for devices with 7 "and 10" displays. But for those looking for something in between, many manufacturers make 8-inch devices. One of the recently released 8-inch budget tablets is the Prestigio MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO 8.0.

Equipment

Prestigio MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO 8.0 comes in a black and red thick cardboard box. On the lid of the box you can see an image of a tablet and red icons describing the main functions of the device. On the back of the box, the main technical characteristics of the tablet are described in English and Russian.

The device comes with an interface cable, a charger, a branded leatherette cover to match the color of the tablet, instructions, an OTG cable and a warranty card. The cover that comes with the black version of the device is black on the outside and red on the inside. The complete case is made of very high quality. If you put the tablet in a case, the screen turns off automatically. As soon as the user takes the device out of the case, the screen is reactivated.

The device is available in three body colors: white, silver and black.

Design

Prestigio MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO 8.0 looks very much like the iPad Mini. You can distinguish a tablet from an "apple" device by wider side frames and the absence of a hardware "Home" key.

High quality materials were used in the manufacture of the device. The back panel of MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO is almost entirely made of aluminum, only in the upper part of the "back" there is a removable plastic insert that occupies a part of the upper end. The front panel of the tablet is completely covered with tempered glass.

The bezels around the screen of the device are wide enough. On the one hand, if the manufacturer reduced them, the tablet would become more compact. On the other hand, wide bezels allow you to comfortably hold the tablet in your hands while watching movies without touching the touch screen.

The device weighs 453 grams. The dimensions of the MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO are 204x158x9.3 millimeters.

The body of the device is well assembled. When the structure is squeezed, nothing loosens or creaks.

Functional elements

On the front panel of Prestigio MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO 8.0, in addition to the display, there is only a peephole for the front camera. There are no touch-sensitive or physical buttons on the front panel of the device. Control buttons are part of the interface.

On the back panel of the device, you can see the company logo, the lens of the main camera, the holes of the multimedia speaker, and brief information about the device and the manufacturer inscribed with special paint. The speaker demonstrates an average volume level: the sound level in the room is quite comfortable, but on the street the speaker is practically inaudible.

Under a removable plastic insert located at the top of the rear panel, there is a slot for a microSD memory card, and in the 3G version, there is a slot for a SIM card.

On the top of the tablet is a headphone or external speaker jack. It is not very conveniently located, as it is overlapped by the hand when working with the device in a horizontal orientation.

On the right side panel of the device, the developers have placed a microUSB port and a microphone hole. The port is designed to synchronize with a personal computer and connect a charger. The port is not very convenient, and when the device is in the case, charging and connecting to a computer are impossible. In addition, the cable in the connector is poorly fixed and constantly strives to fall out.

On the left side of Prestigio MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO 8.0 there is a paired volume control button and a lock key.

Display

The 8-inch (20.3 centimeters) display of the Prestigio MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO has a resolution of 1024x768 pixels. IPad mini and 1st generation iPad have the same resolution. You may notice a slight graininess in the image on the display of the device.

The aspect ratio of the device's screen is 4: 3, which is the most convenient for web surfing and reading e-books.

The screen is built on a high-quality IPS-matrix. The display of the device has good, although not maximum, viewing angles and natural color rendering. The picture on the screen looks rich and lively. The screen displays 16 million colors.

The capacitive touch display supports up to 5 simultaneous touches. This is quite enough, since in most cases users use no more than two fingers when working with the tablet.

Automatic brightness control of the screen backlight is not provided in the device: there is no light sensor. The brightness of the display can only be changed manually.

The tablet screen does not have a large margin of brightness, therefore, in bright light conditions, the information on the Prestigio MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO screen becomes difficult to distinguish.

Camera

MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO 8.0, like most modern mobile devices, has two cameras. The front camera has a resolution of 0.3 megapixels, the rear - 2 megapixels. There is no autofocus and photo flash in the device.

The camera has all the standard settings for Android devices. The tablet user can select the shooting mode, adjust the exposure, activate geotagging, select the video duration, audio mode, turn on the anti-flicker function, and the like. There is also a set of color effects: sepia, monochrome, blue sepia, negative and green sepia.

Both cameras demonstrate average shooting quality. Movies can be recorded in HD quality (1280x768 pixels).

Hardware platform

Prestigio MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO 8.0 is based on the Rockchip RK3066 ARM Cortex A9 dual-core processor with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz. The device has 1 gigabyte of RAM. The device is equipped with a graphics accelerator Mali 400 MP with four computing cores. The volume of the device's internal data storage is 8 gigabytes. Of these, about 5 gigabytes are available to the user to store their data. You can expand the amount of internal memory using a microSD card up to 32 gigabytes.

In the synthetic test NenaMark2, the tablet achieves a result of 60 frames per second, which is a good indicator. In the AnTuTu benchmark, the device scores 10,939 points, slightly lagging behind the results of Google Nexus 7 and Asus Transformer Prime.

The power of the hardware "stuffing" is enough for the correct operation of most applications. Problems can arise only with modern three-dimensional games, for example, Gangstar: Rio, Real Racing 3, Modern Combat 4. Full HD video starts and plays on the tablet without lags or hitching. When working with the device, you may notice slight slowdowns in the interface.

Communications and interfaces

Prestigio MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO 8.0 is equipped with a wireless Wi-Fi adapter that supports 802.11b / g / n standards. The adapter demonstrates a high quality connection, it allows you to play streaming video in Full HD format on the tablet.

The version of the device with the 3G module allows using the mobile Internet, as well as sending messages and making calls. There is no loudspeaker on the front panel of the device, so telephone conversations can only be carried out using a wired headset or a multimedia speaker, that is, through a speakerphone. Unfortunately, the device lacks a vibrating alert function, which makes it possible to miss a call or message.

A device with a 3G module can be used as an access point.

There are no Bluetooth and GPS modules in the device, so you won't be able to use the device as a navigator or connect various devices to it wirelessly.

The tablet is connected to a personal computer for data transfer via a USB cable. In addition, the interface port has support for the USB OTG standard, which allows, with a special adapter, to connect various devices (external flash drives, 3G modems, mice, keyboards, etc.) to the device.

Autonomy

Prestigio MultiPad 2 Ultra DUO 8.0 is equipped with a 4100 mAh non-removable Li-ion battery. According to the manufacturer, the tablet can work on a single battery charge in standby mode for up to 5 days, in continuous music playback mode - about 36 hours and in continuous video playback mode - about 5 hours.

In normal use, the device works without recharging for one day.

Full charge time of the device battery is about 2.5 hours.

Software

When the tablet is launched for the first time, the user is prompted to select the interface language, specify the time and date, configure the wireless network and install third-party applications.

At the bottom of the screen are the main virtual buttons for controlling the device - "Back", "Home" and "Manager of running applications".

The preinstalled proprietary program eReader Prestigio allows you to read e-books on the tablet. It has access to a store that contains over 600,000 books in 22 languages, some of which are free.
