Microlab B-56

Computer acoustics

Computer speakers can be in various format configurations, from 7.1 to 2.0. Today we will get acquainted with a two-channel set of acoustics manufactured by the world famous company Microlab. The model is called B56.

Microlab B56

Microlab B56 is a small stereo system consisting of two small speakers, the main feature of which is "autonomous" power supply directly from the computer's USB port. This means that, first of all, these speakers are intended for those users who often travel and go on business trips, and who need to have a simple but high-quality sound system at hand (for example, to launch a small presentation).

This speaker model is also well suited for sounding games and playing music at home. The set of acoustics is small in size, while having the ability to generate sound at a high volume level. The speakers won't take up much space on your desktop.

The product looks elegant. Due to their low cost and purpose, the speakers do not offer a wide range of functionality. The body is made of MDF board, which today is a more noble material than plastic. This has a positive effect on the quality of the reproduced sound produced by the speakers.

The front has a decorative mesh that protects the speaker membrane. If necessary, the mesh can be removed and cleaned. Each of the speakers contains one full-range speaker, which, according to the manufacturer's data, can reproduce frequencies in the range from 100 to 18000 Hz.

The sides are devoid of all sorts of functional elements. There is a non-detachable signal cable at the back.

Four round rubber feet are glued to the bottom of each speaker to effectively combat vibration that occurs.

Briefly about the technical characteristics of the device. The total output power of the speakers is 3 W, which is 1.5 W for each speaker. Harmonic distortion 0.3% (1 W, 1 kHz), signal-to-noise ratio is at the level of 70 dB. Dimensions: width 63, height 160, depth 107 mm. The set weighs a little less than a kilogram (0.8 kg). The package includes two speakers, a user manual, and an integrated wired remote control.

Impressions of use

The power from the USB port is sufficient to generate adequate power and volume. The situation will look a little worse if we want to use the speakers to reproduce sound from the MP3 player, since in this case there will be nowhere to get power. The scope of delivery does not include a power supply capable of converting mains voltage to typical USB port power (5V). This disadvantage, however, can be forgiven to the manufacturer, since the cost of Microlab B56 is not high, it will not become a large expense item for the family budget.

It is also important that small speakers can generate ear-pleasing sound at a relatively high volume. Indeed, the quality of music reproduction turned out to be at a high level.

Any sound source with a standard 3.5 mm output can be connected to the speakers. Most importantly, you also need to be able to be powered from the USB connector. Competition models considered in this review are: Konoos KNS-D050-BR, Logitech Z120, Divoom Iris-02, and Genius SP-J200. Happy shopping with F.ua!
