Films about the adventures of Indiana Jones have long been considered an unattainable ideal of the genre - not even the most successful fourth part could not shake the cult status of the series. In turn, Travelers Tales attempted to enter the same river a second time with the release of LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues.
The sequel to LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, released in 2008, differs from its predecessor, primarily with separately downloadable content. In addition, the developers have made new levels based on the classic trilogy. In addition, you also get a level editor with which you can create your own locations and characters. The designer turned out to be multifunctional, allowing to bring to life the most daring adventure scenarios. The plot stages are made with a special scope and naturally repeat the famous movie scenes. As a rule, the action opens with a pantomime with the participation of plastic men of all stripes and varieties, after which you will find a puzzle with solving secrets, an action movie with an abundance of fights and shootings, or driving on various cars. The most interesting are the levels with puzzles, where it is necessary to alternately use the unique abilities of the main characters. For example, Indy knows how to overcome serious obstacles with the help of his whip, his companions jump high, and Sallah digs well. The racing stages, where you have to catch up with your opponents and try to crash their cars, were not implemented very well. Driving cars and motorcycles is not very convenient, and the camera is naughty. But in general, these episodes are organically woven into the game, like cool battles with bosses. The developers did not skimp on funds and created memorable battles with revived stone idols, living hurricanes and a giant assembled from thousands of plastic ants. However, the main charm of the game lies not in the scenario adventures, which, by the way, sometimes deviate very much from the cinematic source, but in the study of large sandbox locations. They make it feel like you are really playing LEGO. The authors brought pictures from the catalogs of the Danish company to life, giving all LEGO Indiana Jones 2 owners an amazing feeling of a long-forgotten children's holiday. By carefully exploring the surroundings, you can find tons of bonuses, including access to secret levels, where treasure chests are often hidden. If you collect a certain number of such gold boxes, a big surprise awaits you. The discovered resources are also allowed to be spent on the purchase of new characters or additional vehicles. The list of the latter, by the way, was supplemented by airships, airplanes, strange harvesters for cutting palm trees and other equipment. And now about the disadvantages, since the new creation of Traveler's Tales is far from ideal. The controls here are very inaccurate, which is especially felt when solving puzzles. There are unnecessarily prolonged battles. The gameplay is monotonous. The absurd frivolity of some of the screensavers does not correspond to the subtle, almost canonical episodes of The Last Crusade. Nevertheless, young fans of Indiana Jones will love this game. Precisely for young fans, because many fans of this character have long stepped over the age limit of 20 years and entered the period when they no longer want to play with cubes.
