Review of mobile phone Nokia 6500 classic

The Nokia 6500 classic phone has a classic form factor (do not confuse it with another Nokia 6500 slide model). Nokia 6500 classic is one of the first slim mobile phones from the Finnish manufacturer. The device is curious from all sides: it has 1 gigabyte of internal memory, an updated S40 platform, an unusual case design, in a word - there is something to see here. As in the case of the Nokia 6500 slide, the changes have affected most of the software components, while the hardware has remained practically unchanged.

Nokia 6500 classic design

The base color of the device is black, but the phone is also available in a bronze color scheme. In addition to this, the battery compartment cover is included as an accessory, since it has a flat surface, it can be painted or engraved. For these purposes, you can purchase a few more caps and paint them for various life situations. Changed the cover - and in front of you is a completely different mobile phone. But the cover itself is extremely difficult to remove: it has to be pulled together, the surface of the cover itself is very slippery, there are no special holes for fingers on the cover, so in order to move it, you will need to press on the center. You won't be able to remove the cover the first time, but from the tenth time you will still be able to do it. Only the main thing is not to break the lid - after all, it is not metal, but plastic.

The phone is unusually thin compared to other phones from the Finnish manufacturer, even if you compare it with the 6300, our model looks like a slender, slender beauty against its background. Judge for yourself: the 6300 is 13.1 millimeters thick, while the Nokia 6500 classic is only 9.5 millimeters thick. Although now there are thinner models of this manufacturer, for example, the 2630, the Nokia 6500 classic is still not considered so small, since the length of its body has passed the average values of 110 millimeters. And the weight of the device cannot be called small 94 grams. The Nokia 6300 has a metal cover, while the 6500 classic has plastic. The design of the device is such that the cover of the battery pack captures not only the back, but also the front part, therefore, it seems that the device is completely made of plastic. In reality, the phone frame is made of anodized aluminum, but it looks like it is made of plastic. In addition, the metal part is painted in the same color as the lid, which further forms the illusion of plastic.

Despite the fact that the device has the shape of a rectangle, you simply will not find right angles on the device - since they are smoothed. This is especially noticeable when you look at the device from above. This makes the handset comfortable to hold. But after long-term use, the case seems slippery. The body of the phone is not easily soiled, the prints are invisible - it is unnecessary to wipe it frequently. The build quality of the case is good enough no backlash or squeaks were found.

The 6500 classic phone, like the previous novelty Nokia 6300, is designed for business class. But Nokia 6300 is more suitable for a business audience, as the handset has a more solid combination of black silver colors, and also has a metal cover. 6500 classic is getting cheaper in solid plastic and solid color. In the 6500 classic, only one interesting design move was found: the front of the panel is divided into two parts, which are framed by a silver rectangular insert. Above the display, below the buttons. The 6500 classic is also slightly enlivened by the silver inserts on the buttons and on the navi button, but they are noticeable only in the black version of the case, as in the bronze one they are simply lost sight of. In our opinion, the black version of the case will be in more demand than the bronze one.

Keyboard

The buttons on the phone are convenient, so there are no complaints about them. Almost all buttons are made of transparent plastic, pleasant to the touch. The clicks are very responsive, so don't worry about that. On the number keys, only those places where the symbols are applied are pressed, that is, you need to press the numbers themselves, and not the silver inserts - the silver inserts are present there for tactile recognition of the keys. We also have no complaints about the soft buttons and keys for handling calls. Button 2 and the navigation key are visually combined into one; this does not affect the convenience of pressing, since the keys are perfectly pressed separately. The navigation button itself and the confirmation button are excellent and crisp.

We were surprised by the absence of additional side buttons - without them the phone is not perceived as a business-class device, and the ends seem bald, plus the device has a single connector for connecting a charger, headphones and a USB cable. As a result, due to the lack of additional connectors and buttons, the 6500 classic seems to be an ordinary middle-class device; this impression is reinforced by the battery cover made of plastic. Even the usual power button does not have this function, the call end key performs. This was noticed in many other models of the Finnish company: Nokia 8600 Luna, Nokia 6500 slide, etc. It's a pity, because the power button was a trademark of this manufacturer. And other manufacturers, for example, Samsung began to use such keys, as was done in the U600, and the Finnish manufacturer, for some reason, more and more often changes its traditions.

6500 classic battery

For the thin model, the manufacturer had to come up with a thin battery, which received the abbreviation BL-6P and was first used in the device under review today. Later, this type of battery was used in many slim models from Nokia. Despite the fact that the battery has become noticeably thinner, it has practically not lost its capacity - 830 mAh versus 860 mAh, which is installed on the Nokia 6300. Relatively, the operating time should not be much reduced in 6300 - the operating time was about three days, and in the active mode.

6500 classic signals

The 6500 classic has a separate speaker for music playback on the back of the unit to the right of the camera. There are no complaints, both to the spoken and to the main dynamics. The volume is enough to hear a call for example in public transport, etc. As a ringtone for a call, you can use traditional midi files, MP3, voice recorders and even the WMA sound format. In some cases, it is more suitable for ringtone, as it sounds softer and sometimes even takes up less space than MP3 files. In terms of the playback quality, the 6500 classic speaker practically does not differ from the Nokia 6300 speaker, but the phone loses in this parameter to the 6233 handset, which has two stereo speakers.

6500 classic display

The display is the pride of the Nokia 6500 classic mobile phone. At that time, it was quite large and had a diagonal of 2 inches, the resolution of the QVGA matrix, it is capable of displaying up to 16 million colors. The matrix itself is made using TFT technology, it is completely identical to the matrix of the Nokia 6300. The Nokia 6300 has a protective transparent plastic, while the Nokia 6500 classic has it open. On the other hand, the displayed picture of Nokia 6500 classic seems to be of higher quality. There are no complaints about the screen, the viewing angles are maximum, which cannot be said about Samsung displays. In sunny weather, the screen does not fade, and the picture fades a little, but remains readable. But the main text on the Nokia 6500 classic screen is perceived in any environment.

Camera Nokia 6500 classic

The camera in the Nokia 6500 classic differs from the Nokia 6300 only in the presence of an LED flash. As for the rest, the quality of shooting is identical to 6300. The Nokia 6500 classic lacks an additional camera for video calls, although the mobile phone supports 3G networks.

The quality of the pictures in terms of sharpness is good, the color rendition and the picture are also normal, but the noise is present in almost all pictures taken under artificial lighting.

Memory Nokia 6500 classic

The main attraction of our model is its memory. The built-in memory in Nokia 6500 classic is 1 gigabyte, of which 920 MB is available to the user. The phone is initially equipped with a built-in flash module; memory cards are not available for replacement in Nokia 6500 classic, so you will not be able to increase the memory capacity. The Nokia 6300 comes with a 128 MB card, but here you can easily expand the memory up to 4 GB. Well, that's just in theory. And practically many users are faced with the fact that in 6300 even a 1 gigabyte card is unstable. Well, in the case of the built-in memory module of Nokia 6500 classic, you are guaranteed stable operation.

Communications Nokia 6500 classic

As mentioned above, the Nokia 6500 classic mobile phone uses one connector for the charger, USB cable and headset. Moreover, this connector is not miniUSB, but microUSB. It's good that the cable is included in the package. Nokia hastened to switch to microUSB, since miniUSB has not yet exhausted its capabilities and will be popular for several years. Of course, the smaller and more modern microUSB format will become popular after a while, besides, this connector has a retainer, which prevents the plug from accidentally falling out of the socket.

The device has support for the Mass Storage mode, that is, when the phone is connected to a PC, all the contents of the phone will be detected as an external drive. It won't take long to download content to the phone, as the device has USB 2.0 support.

The device has a built-in Bluetooth module, which has support for connecting a wireless headset and many other necessary profiles.

Nokia 6500 classic menu

The software platform of Nokia 6500 classic has some differences from the third version of S40, on which the software part of the Nokia 6300 phone is based. All other sub-items are displayed as lists. The left navigation button is responsible for calling functions, and the right one for returning to the previous menu. Phonebook Nokia 6500 classic

The memory count in the phone book is represented as a percentage. This makes it more convenient to keep track of the capacity of the phone book, there is enough memory here even for the most sociable people. When creating a new contact, you can enter information from the first / last name to the place of work and home address. However, you can get into the phone book only if you have an installed SIM card in your mobile phone. In the settings, you can choose the option to display the recorded numbers there are: phone, SIM, phone and SIM. It is possible to synchronize the phone book, create your own groups, back up the saved numbers. Names can be displayed in two types - first name / last name and last name / first name, and their form can be in the form of a name with a phone number or a picture with a name. Nokia 6500 classic music player

The most interesting application in the Nokia 6500 classic is the music player. This is a full-fledged player that, in combination with one gigabyte of internal memory, can completely replace an MP3 player. It can be started via the main menu or via a programmable button. When you start the player, we find ourselves in the library, where songs can be sorted by artists, genres, playlists, etc. By pressing the right soft-button, you can select the option to update the music library.

The player has a rather unusual interface: the name of the music track being played is displayed at the top, below the artist's name, album and picture, if any, and the entire lower part is highlighted for player control. First there is a scale with a time counter, below it are the settings icons, a little to the right of the graphical control, and even to the right of the volume level. The horizontal arrows of the navigation key are used to rewind the music tracks, and the confirmation key is used to play and stop the music track. Clicking on the top arrow will take you to the library, and on the bottom to the current playlist.

From the settings, the following can be noted: repeat and random playback, a five-band equalizer, which already has several standard settings, the user can create his own setting.

The music player has as many as four shells: Bubble steel, Brown golden, Outer Space and one more installed by default. When using any of the skins, the appearance of the music player changes, but this does not affect the functionality in any way.
