Review of Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 phone

In November 2009, Sony Ericsson Mobile introduced its first smartphone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, which is based on the Google Android 1.6 operating system. The device in question differs from its brothers in the latest concept of the user interface, this smartphone is the most functional of all the developments of Sony Ericsson. When creating the gadget, the manufacturers changed its name several times: first it was called Rachael, then - Xperia X3.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 smartphone uses a completely new operating system for the company, the very productive platform is based on Qualcomm Snapdragon. And the fresh Timescape and Mediascape applications have become one of the most interesting features of the device. And this is not strange, since the Swedish-Japanese concern has always been distinguished by the creation of unique functions.

In appearance, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is the embodiment of all the best that is in the Sony style. A huge four-inch display, a minimal number of buttons, a strict design - all this gives the impression of an expensive mobile device.

The possibilities of the new mobile phone Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 can be considered unlimited. Since it implements almost everything that a modern user dreams of.

Housing

The body of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is available in two colors: Sensuous Black and Luster White. Body type monoblock. The body is made of expensive high-quality plastic: the black one has a rubberized soft-touch, and the white one has glossy plastic. No prints are visible on the case.

For a device with a four-inch display, the phone has moderate dimensions: 119 x 63 x 13 mm, its weight is 135 grams, isn't that bad? It can be compared in size to an iPhone. It was possible to maintain reasonable dimensions due to the competent placement of the controls.

There are three buttons under the display: "back", "home" and "menu". I was pleased with the absence of the "search" button, which is used extremely rarely.

The battery cover is located on the back of the device, and has a secure enough fastening so that there is no backlash. On the right side panel, there is a button for launching the camera and a rocker button for adjusting the volume and performing the zoom function, on the left side panel there are no control buttons.

At the top there is a 3.5 mm jack, intended for connecting a headset, to the left of it under the cap is a microUSB port, to the right is a button to turn the phone on and off. At the bottom end there is a hole for attaching a lace.

The huge widescreen (16: 9) screen occupies almost the entire surface of the front of the case. The display is not recessed into the body, this is done for the convenience of using your finger - the stylus is not provided in the device.

The display of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is protected from scratches by fiberglass (scratch-resistant surface), the display responds well to touch. TFT - the display can display up to 65,536 colors, its resolution is 480 x 854 pixels, and the mirror substrate will allow you to work with your smartphone in the sun without any inconvenience.

Above the screen are a proximity sensor, a camera for video calls and a light sensor. The smartphone lacks multitouch, this was not allowed by Google Android OS 1.6.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has 1 GB of internal memory and 256 MB of RAM. The device supports microSD memory cards up to 16 GB - this is the card that comes with the smartphone.

The device does not implement quick replacement of memory cards; in order to change the memory card, you need to pull out the battery.

In addition to the traditional QWERTY keyboard, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 uses an on-screen keyboard, this solution allows you to preserve the local design of the smartphone and make the most of the large screen.

The set with the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 comes with a lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 1500 mAh, the smartphone can work up to 10 hours in the talk mode, and up to 640 hours in the standby mode.

It's no secret that very often communicator owners are unhappy with a weak battery. In the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 test in real conditions, the device worked without additional recharging for almost three days - these figures can be called excellent for a device of this type.

Multimedia

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 has a built-in 8.1-megapixel CMOS camera with Touch Focus support. With the Touch Focus function, you can take a photo of objects by touching where they appear in the viewfinder on the display.

Capture the finest details with digital flash and 16x digital zoom, while face and smile detection ensures everyone you photograph is at their best.

The developers also did not forget about image optimization and image stabilization. The quality of pictures in the presented device is the best among similar Android devices, this was facilitated by additional options in the camera menu - scene selection, exposure, focus modes - using these options will allow you to get professional photos with a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels.

And with the Geo Tagging function, you can easily identify the place on the map where the photo was taken.

The device in question can record video in VGA format with a quality of 30 frames per second. Also, the smartphone can play videos in MP4, Xvid, WMV9, H.263, H.264 format.

Our model has a standard Sony Ericsson music player that plays audio tracks in MP3, WAV, eAAC +, WMA formats. The interface has become more beautiful thanks to Mediascape, and the player controls are intuitive.

The media player can filter audio tracks in different ways. And the TrackID app allows you to recognize the title and artist of the song. This and other apps make up for the lack of FM radio in the phone.

The broadest multimedia capabilities will delight you with the ability to organize music and pictures, and access to the necessary music tracks and photos has never been so clear and simple.

Work

Our device is powered by a Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon processor with a frequency of 1 GHz. This enables support for many codecs, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Standalone- and A-GPS and many other functions.

The device runs on Android 1.6 OS, although the version is not the latest, but it is stable in operation. Moreover, in the near future, it is planned to update the OS to Android OS 2.1.

A nice feature in our device is that the standard shell has not been changed in it. In other words, if you do not like the interface of any application, you can disable it and use its basic version. In devices that do not have their own shell, this cannot be done.

The interface of SonyEricsson Xperia X10 differs significantly from the basic interface of the Android operating system, as it has a redrawn MP3 player, keyboard, gallery, etc.

Two branded applications Timescape and Mediascape also attracted attention.

Timescape application is an event manager that collects all the necessary data of subscribers, which are entered in the phone book.
