Nokia 3600 slide review

Nokia 3600 slide - a representative of the modern middle level. At first glance, you do not notice anything special in the device, but it is specialized in order to bribe with its own harmony, thoughtfulness, and the simplicity of the realized possibilities. Was it successful?

The 3 *** line has consistently offered mid-range models to consumers - no more, no less. Below is only a clearly budget class, above it - image, music, high-tech.

In the index of new devices from the Finnish manufacturer, the name of the form factor began to appear - classic (candy bar), fold (book), slide (slider). This is done in order not to repeat models similar in functional elements, the only difference of which is their form factor.

In principle, a similar scheme has already been implemented in the 6600 fold, 6600 slide communicators. This makes it possible to assume that in the future release of functional "clones" of the 3600 slide, possessing a different design, is likely. In addition, complementary words help to separate old and new patterns. The original 3600 was a rather unusual smartphone.

Appearance

Remembering the first Nokia sliders - without an auto-finishing mechanism and therefore clumsy and inconvenient to use - it is worth noting that there is a significant step forward. The 3600 slide has succeeded in being compact, fashionable and lightweight. It is not worth the effort to uncover it.

The design is dominated by rounded, "slick" shapes. This adds a model of elegance, femininity, according to which the target audience is determined. We got a plum-grayish (charcoal) color variation (it was previously found in the N73 model). There is also the brightest - muted crimson (red wine).

The front panel of the communicator is made of glossy plastic, on which there are fingerprints. On the sides of the case there are splashes of sparkles, those that shimmer in the light. The back panel, on the other hand, is made of matte plastic, which is quite resilient and hard, rather than soft-touch. Thanks to this, the device fits perfectly in the hand, does not slip.

At the top of the rear panel there is a metal insert that surrounds the camera module. The back filling of the upper sash is also made of metal (this can be seen when the slider is open). The speaker is also located at the back, its 3 slots are highlighted in bright turquoise. When the communicator lies on a flat area (on a table, for example) with the speaker down, the sound is not muffled.

The battery cover covers the entire rear panel. Removing it is not easy, the movement of the lid is tight. It is fixed on 2 antennae, those that seem to be always ready to break. At the same time, after some time of use, to return the device to a neat look, it will be enough just to purchase a new cover.

At the very edge of the front panel, there is a small protrusion to stop it when opening. As is often the case, in practice, it is not always used.

Keyboard

When the phone is opened, there is a typical keyboard that occupies the entire area of the bottom flap. So the designers managed to keep the huge size of the keys with the overall compactness of the communicator.

The keyboard is comfortable to use. Thanks to the glossy finish, it is possible to move your finger from key to button without taking it off the communicator. The backlighting of the buttons is white, the colors are so-so intense. On its basis, primitive "light effects", as Nokia denotes them in the menu settings, are proposed: gradual switching on / off of the backlight around the four-way button and the middle line of the keypad.

By the way, the navigation unit also left positive impressions. The auxiliary buttons on the ends of the device were a little let down (the power key on the top and the camera key on the right). Their movement is stiff, it is not always possible to "drown" the keys into the body from the 1st time, but over time you adapt to pressing them correctly.

Screen

The screen got the features typical for today - QVGA-resolution (320x240 pixels), display up to 16 million tones. It is significant that these parameters are becoming the norm in the middle segment. This suggests that future high-end Nokia devices will have some pretty curious numbers (the recent announcement of the Nokia 5800 XPRESSMUSIC is proof of that).

The display is quite bright, wide viewing angles and rich colors. In other words, it does not have those flaws that came across in the company's previous devices belonging to the middle price class.

Memory, software, noise reduction system

The photo memory card slot (supported by MICROSD format) is located under the battery cover. The set comes with a 512 MB card, while the manufacturer says it supports cards up to 4 GB.

If you view files from the photo memory card through the file manager, then during the transitions between folders, loading occurs for a certain number of seconds. There is not a lot of available photo memory available to buyers in the device - about 30 MB.

As it often happens in the innovations of the Finnish company, in addition to the usual set of themes for the S40 platform, there is a special theme corresponding to the color of the case. A highly successful combination of external and "internal" design should appeal to different consumers, especially at the first stage, before the cardinal personalization of the model.

There is nothing outstanding in the 3600 slide software component: there is a standard set of PIM functions (contacts, organizer, etc.) and not the least ordinary multimedia options. But to declare the complete absence of any innovations is still not brought: Nokia preferred to improve the sound quality in a cellular device.

It seems that this has long since ceased to be paid attention to due to the technical perfection of voice transmission capabilities. One way or another, Nokia introduced a function to reduce external noise into the device. By the way, before that, such a specificity had not been encountered in the model line of the Finnish giant.

Do you think that the name of this parameter has already appeared in press releases? Absolutely correct, but up to this point, only Bluetooth headsets boasted of the ability to reduce external noise. It is noticeable that the useful mode is borrowed from the accessories and integrated into the communicator.

The effect of this parameter can be appreciated at its true worth in a noisy environment (street, disco). In complete silence, your subscriber may feel inconvenient due to the fact that the system will cut off the low noise level that has become standard. Don't be surprised if the person talking to you on the phone occasionally checks to see if the conversation is ongoing.

Musical possibilities

Despite the fact that 3600 slide has nothing to do with the XPRESSMUSIC music line, it owns a decent musical part. Thanks for this is the latest, 5th edition of the S40 3rd edition platform.

Sound reproduction from an external speaker almost does not stand out from the quality of this in the not too long ago tested Nokia 5220 XPRESSMUSIC. This proves the judgment that the XPRESSMUSIC brand is more a product of positioning.

The only thing that distinguishes the communicator from music phones is the absence of the usual 3.5 mm headphone output. The standard headset HS-47 (2.5 mm connector) is seriously inferior in quality to its "older brothers".

The built-in radio does not stand out from similar parameters in other Nokia new products. Apparently, it pretends to become a de facto function in communicators.

Camera

By the end of each year, there is an increase in the number of megapixels. Not so long ago, models with 8 Megapixels began to be actively promoted, last year.- 5 Megapixels, a year earlier - 3.2 Megapixels. A decent (even by current criteria) 3.2-megapixel photomodule with autofocus is integrated into the 3600 slide. The last detail is especially essential for the quality of the resulting photographs.

Clarity in photographs is sufficient when photographing, not only in favorable conditions (natural sufficient lighting), but also in the least successful (insufficient or artificial lighting). The power of the integrated flash is optimal, the subject is not exposed. When the picture is enlarged, the noise becomes visible even on the display of the communicator, but this is not as important as when viewing it on a personal computer.

Video also leaves a great experience. The maximum resolution is VGA (640 by 480) with a video recording speed of 15 photos per second. The quality of the video recording is quite high, only the speed of image refreshing in dynamic scenes is not enough. In principle, it is possible to correct this by setting the minimum resolution - QVGA (320x240), but on the PC display such a video will look worse.

Conclusion

Nokia 3600 slide did not offer anything innovative (except perhaps a noise reduction system). This model combines the characteristic qualities of the average level. In this respect, there is nothing to find fault with: the device lacks neither inexpensive nor hi-end-functions.

The model will be an excellent choice for buyers who do not use a cellular communicator for self-expression, but do not lack a sense of style; those that do not pursue new breakthroughs in technology, but refuse to put up with a clearly outdated phone.
