Review Asus G73Jh-TZ008V

Gaming Laptops is always a difficult compromise. Although processors, RAM and hard drive capacity are in no way inferior to desktop systems, this does not apply to the most important element of a gaming computer - a video card. However, new from Asus Uses the latest mobile GPU ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870... It is a very fast and modern chip that can compete on an equal footing with desktop systems. He has full support DirectX 11, which is a definite plus, as modern games are moving to a new graphics standard.

Not content with just fast graphics, Asus G73Jh on the whole it has an impressive filling. The laptop is powered by the latest quad-core processor Intel Core i7, which, when switching to turbo mode, accelerates from standard 1.6 GHz to super-productive 2.8 GHz... Also installed on board 8 GB DDR 3 memory, which is more than most modern desktop computers. Moreover, G73Jh has two hard disks with a capacity of 500 GB, while they work on more reasonable 7200 rpmthan earlier 5400 rpm models.

The laptop displays the image on 17.3 inch Full HD screen, with a working resolution of 1920 x 1080, it will not let you get bored with the powerful graphics chip from ATI. The laptop also comes with advanced wireless modules Wirelesss-N Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR.

Design G73, according to the statement Asus, was inspired by a fighter F117 Nighthawk Stealth... This proves not only the stylish look of the laptop, but also its impressive dimensions, the width is 42 cm, and weight 3.85 kg.

You might have guessed by now that the G73 won't fit in most laptop bags, so Asus carefully provided a high quality backpack of the brand Republic of gamers... In addition to a laptop compartment, this attractive black backpack has additional compartments and a mesh pocket for bottles. The backpack is very practical and comfortable, though not cheap. In addition, Asus has introduced a decent set of headphones, which adds to the cost of the set.

Back to design, G73... Stealth laptop combines clean angular lines, here you will not find curves, design like a fighter, made in an aggressive style. Externally, the laptop is painted in a soft matte black color, which not only perfectly hides fingerprints, but also makes the novelty more practical - you will definitely want to take this monster with you.

Opening the laptop open, we see the gray bezels around the screen and the keyboard are smooth to the touch. Under the keyboard, the surface is slightly textured to avoid slipping on sweaty palms. The build quality is excellent and we were unable to detect any unwanted backlash or squeaks.

Again, following the example of the Nighthawk Stealth, the engineers Asus added a subtle blue glow under the screen, and also backlit the keyboard, power button, and a number of other function buttons. The glow is very soft and cannot be seen in daylight, and it can also be turned off altogether.

In general, so far Asus G73Jh looks like a premium product. As with many new laptops, Asus uses an isolated style in the keyboard. All keys are thin and precise, the feedback, though weak, is still well discernible. And the huge tilted and textured palm rest provides a comfortable environment for typing. There is a very slight backlash in the center of the keyboard, but this cannot spoil the overall impression. The only thing that disappointed us was the lack of special buttons to bind macros to them; gamers would probably come in handy with such an opportunity.

Like the keyboard, the touchpad Asus G73Jh very nice to use. He is big and sensitive. However, for games, in any case, the presence of a mouse is a prerequisite.

As for the ports, the new product is not badly equipped, but not excellent. On board there are: four USB 2.0 ports (two on each side), VGA and HDMI video outputs, 3.5mm headphone and microphone outputs, card reader and Gigabit Ethernet port. This model would also have eSATA, ExpressCard and USB 3.0 slot, but Asus did not include them in the package. As for the latter, Asus has already started incorporating them into some of its flagship models.

On the other hand, Asus G73Jh complete with amazing acoustics. Indeed, the 2.1 channel system delivers the best sound we've ever heard from a laptop. Not only do the stereo speakers deliver crisp, distortion-free sound at high volume levels, but the subwoofer also adds substantial bass. The speaker system is backed by an integrated EAX Advanced HD 4.0 a sound chip that allows you to unleash the full potential of your games. Of course, this acoustics cannot be compared with desktop models, but in relation to laptops it is clearly in the lead.

Screen at Asus G73Jh very good. Excellent color reproduction, Full HD resolution and a fairly large 17.3-inch diagonal provide you with a great gaming atmosphere. Although rather narrow viewing angles can spoil the overall impression, we cannot but note that the screen of the new item does not suffer from a shift in contrast, like most TN panels. However, if you really want a better display, then here is Dell remains out of competition, be sure to pay attention to Dell Studio XPS 16.

As we have already said, the brain of this model is the mobile Intel Core i7 processor, the clock frequency of which changes depending on the load and can reach a maximum of 2.8 GHz. This speed of a quad-core processor provides excellent performance, as evidenced by the excellent result in the test. PCMark Vantage.

Upon closer inspection, you can see that the earlier Asus G60j has overtaken its successor, but this difference is not very significant and the Asus G73Sh is still a very powerful machine that can handle modern games or HD video encoding without problems.

Although, this test suggests whether it would not be better to install 4 GB instead of 8 GB of RAM, and spend the saved money on a more advanced processor. Of course, if you need a lot of memory, then Asus has taken care of it. The new product comes with a preinstalled 64-bit operating system Windows 7 Home Premiumto use up the entire memory space.

When it comes to battery power, this has always been a weak point in all gaming laptops. Despite the great 8 cell battery capacity 5,200 mAh, new from Asus there are not enough stars from the sky.

In the test with DVD playback, at maximum brightness, the Toshiba Qosmio X500-10T screen, which withstood an hour and a half, has a much more modest filling. Also, if you decrease the brightness of the screen, you can achieve more acceptable results.

Such a short battery life is due to high-end hardware, two hard drives, powerful (and therefore hot) CPU and GPU.

What really pleased us was the unusually quiet operation of the laptop. When the machine is not under load, only a faint background hum indicates that it is operating. Even when using high-performance applications or a DVD drive, Asus G73Sh will never distract you.

This is one of the quietest, high-tech gaming laptops we've ever reviewed.

Let's now take a look at the exciting moment for all, this is the performance in games.

To begin with, we tested the novelty in two games: a relatively undemanding one. TrackMania Nations and more serious STALKER: Call of Pripyat... In both cases the games ran at medium detail settings and at 1366 x 768 resolution. STALKER uses DirectX 10 and Track Mania uses DirectX 9.

In Track Mania, the results from the 3 laptops are very similar, although the Asus G60J has an inexplicable and ultimately pointless advantage. In STALKER, however, the superiority of the G73j is clearly visible, the test shows a comfortable 81 fps. Obviously, in order to understand the advantage of the novelty, you need to set the settings to the maximum.

When we switched to STALKER in DirectX 11 mode, raised the resolution to 1920 x 1080 and set the detail settings to “Ultra”, the G73Jh showed an impressive result of 48.6 fps. Even if you enable anti-aliasing, the game will still look very good.

Next, we tested G73Jh on everyone's beloved Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare... Despite its honorable age, this game is still popular. At maximum settings, 1920 x 1080 resolution and 2x anti-aliasing, the G73Jh achieved an excellent 66.2 fps.

The next game was not young, but still demanding on the hardware Crisis. At high settings and a resolution of 1920 x 1080, the new product showed 23.8 fps, which is better than what we have seen from any gaming laptop. So at a resolution of 1280 x 720 we get a stable 36.8 frames per second.

In general, the laptop copes excellently with gaming loads, of course, in some places you have to compromise, reduce details or resolution, but such games are usually designed for very expensive Cross fire and Sli solutions.

Speaking of the price, one cannot fail to note the excellent price-quality ratio. Of course, if you compare Asus G73Jh, for example, with the Dell Alienware M17x, the latter has a number of advantages, a more capacious battery, more additional options, a great screen, but also at a price Dell far superior to the novelty from Asus.

Verdict

Asus G73Jh is a great gaming laptop and can easily replace a desktop PC. The laptop has a stylish and durable appearance, excellent ergonomics, very good technical characteristics, and also operates almost silently. Using the latest GPU ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870The G73Jh delivers excellent gaming performance. And the price-quality ratio will delight even the most fastidious buyers.
