Long-dead battles revived, again bullets and fire, blood and cries of the wounded filled my memories with acute pain ... I did not understand what was in front of me: myth or reality, a dream or all the same terrible echoes of the past years ... I almost forgot them ... Nearly...

Everything that I have experienced in the game, starting from the first part, is an incredibly long way, a way through the years ... My first baptism of fire took place in a small Italian town. Here we disembarked from a burning plane hit by enemies. I, Boyd Travers, US Champion of the 101st Airborne Division, in spite of my audacity, was a little intimidated by the sniper shots. I fired into the air, landing on the ground, even though my walkie-talkie told me they were still exploding in the air.

For some time it seemed to me that Airborne gives much more opportunities than reality itself, because every time I was killed, I again fell into the thick of things, into the bloodiest meat grinder, landing from heaven to earth ... I was curious: what if reckless heroes like Travers also showed the way to the young soldiers who died in World War II. After I landed among the friendly soldiers, I heard snatches of phrases: “Hey, Travers! Well done, you did it !!!!!!! "

So what is the game about? The answer is in the title. The Medal of Valor covers many of the major operations of the US Airborne Force in World War II. So, you yourself can choose the landing site, both before the start of the level, and after death, using the landing. Parachuting is not as important as it seems at first glance. The altitude falls, and we find ourselves in a circle, in the so-called landing site ... all this takes seconds ... These are the wide possibilities that Airborne has prepared for you on the ground.

You can spend your parachute descent time adjusting the route and recognizing enemy firing points on the ground. Choosing the right data makes the task much easier. Of course, it will be difficult, but who said that it is easy in war? Now your hero will have to look for cover and move on the ground, gathering the people of your unit. Enemies housed in houses, on the streets, in bunkers, on watchtowers will pour lead on anyone who sticks out their heads.

What will it cost to destroy a machine gun crew of an enemy mounted on sandbags? but won't you do everything to ensure that two dozen American paratroopers land safely? Of course, you will do everything to help them avoid death.

The combat system can boast of a good balance of forces and the "chewiness" of machine-gun posts. In this game, she became an almost perfect model. And now, if you dare to walk past the machine gun, you will not be given a single chance to survive. Therefore, the best way to solve the problem is to bypass the hated firing point from the flank or from the rear and only thus catch the enemy by surprise.

Previously, we have not seen such freedom of action for a single player, and such a serious counterbalance, when each building in the house is a separate firing point. Another feature of Airborne: after the dropzones, you cannot guess where a mine or the next fight is waiting for you. The gameplay is designed in such a way that even in the recaptured quarter there may be "lurking" enemies. There is always a chance that around the corner you will stumble upon German hideouts or enemy camps that your soldiers simply did not notice. This is as close as possible to a real battle and gives a complete picture of what losses can be incurred.

The ability "Skill Drops" allows you to carry out a drop through special tags (parachutes) and concentrate reinforcements where necessary.You can now control troops through the window of your house or from behind the door of a captured military facility. In addition, you can safely count not only each killed enemy, but also keep track of the losses of your own combat units.

Unfortunately, this is just a drop-off area. It is even more regrettable that most of the targets are outside the landing zone. The Airborne scenario itself is very much in line with FPS standards, but not in everything. It is very rare for a game to take on a unique shape, but the Airborne developers have tried to make each of the six game missions differ from each other in color and experience. At the end of an intense campaign, the sense of danger is dulled, and the player feels the joy and taste of victory. As you prepare to submit the next deadly missions, the game smoothly transitions into Medal of Valor: Not Airborne.

And until you see all the shortcomings of the game and its plot-thematic errors, it will be difficult for you to build your own strategy, once in the landing zone, to feel all the "surprises" of this part. In some moments of the game, you want to act, but the images of World War II that are densely embedded in your head stop you. You clearly know one thing: if someone tries to escape, everyone will die, if someone tries to save someone, both of them will die, if someone makes a joke, everyone will die, immediately and cruelly. This is the horror of war ... Do you understand that? But despite the conflicting feelings that can arise when playing, there is something that undoubtedly brightens up the game itself. You have the opportunity to shoot people first. How do you like that? A variety of weapons and great sound cannot make the passage as easy as we would like. After all, the levels are very difficult. Although it is the feeling of complexity that makes you enjoy the killing. And while there are no traitors and cowards in Airborne, you can see bloody bodies at every step, although this is not a very pleasant sight.

When I first ran this part, the game shocked me a lot. Especially one game episode, when after my landing a guard ran up to me. He shivered, mentioning that for American soldiers, cowardice is worse than death. And he was trembling because he saw my rifle. Only later did I realize that not only your soldiers, but also the enemy react to weapons ... This is a dumb fear ...

The next time I landed in enemy-occupied territory. And I had the opportunity to blow up a fuel tank for German tanks. Less than a second after the explosion, enemy soldiers appeared and tried to surround me. I was alone and relied only on myself. But this situation was much cooler and brighter than boring landings on their own territory. I responded to the machine gun fire with several grenades and rifle fire and immediately jumped for cover. The skirmish proceeded with all its charms, and when the Nazis were defeated, I had a great view of the destroyed fuel. Slightly stunned, I resumed firing my rifle.

I realized one thing: the more initiative you show, the less room for maneuver the enemy gets. Given this, the developers do not land players anywhere, but give them the opportunity to independently choose their tactics and style of play. Surprisingly, when you run, you manage to avoid fire, and when you step and move all the time, the enemy is confused and does not shoot as often. One round can end someone's life or escalate into desperate gunfights. After all, a lot will depend on your courage and individual actions.

Before embarking on hostilities, you should pay attention to such moments as the disorientation of the enemy and the use of a protective-experimental system. Every time you kill in Airborne, your defenses change. They are restored when you use a helmet or together with other fighters destroy the enemy. Special clamps, bayonets, grenades, etc. allow you to strengthen the protective equipment.

Making your way through enemy territory, you will always look for advantages. And they will appear when you use the found German grenades and smash entire groups of enemies. You will again and again have some incredible, but quite understandable sadistic desire - to kill. And you, despite the danger, will look for enemies, and lie in wait for them at every corner. This is nothing more than the taste of killing, the taste of battle and victory!

And then Airborne ends. Simple enough, funny enough, beautiful and exciting, as you could not even imagine. Medals, stars and titles that you did not have are now waiting for you after a long, intense battle. But the most pleasant thing is to watch hundreds of soldiers parachute into the thick of the battle ... Airplane accidents, rear nightmares, people helplessly hanging in the trees - all this is much more interesting than strictly passing each mission according to the rules described in the briefing and controlling each bounce.

The Airborne game gives a complete picture of the soldiers of the American army and the work they did on the fields of World War II.

You should not make big claims to Airborne, since the main task of the authors is to recreate the true history of the past years. The game was created for those who want to experience all the horrors and delights of the past war. And this is not all that we have to see.
