HTC Desire 600 smartphone review

HTC Desire 600

HTC Desire 600 is one of the few Dual SIM smartphones from HTC. At the same time, the device is distinguished by a productive "filling", a proprietary HTC Sense 5.0 interface and a strict design. To learn more about the capabilities of the HTC Desire 600 smartphone, this review can help you.

Appearance and ergonomics

The HTC Desire 600 smartphone has a very austere and discreet design. This is especially true of the black model. The device is white and has a bright red rim that surrounds the display. In the hand, the HTC Desire 600 smartphone lies comfortably, and all thanks to the small body width. Unfortunately, it is difficult to call the arrangement of control elements convenient.

The body of the device is large enough, but the power / lock button is located not on one of the sidewalls, but on the upper side edge, which makes it impossible to reach it. You should either grasp the higher HTC Desire 600 smartphone with your hand or press the power button with your other hand. The manufacturer's logo is located under the display, between the touch buttons "Back" and "Home", and does not perform any functions, but only takes the place of the button for calling the "Menu of recently launched applications".

Another detail that adds discomfort is that all mechanical buttons are flush with the side edges, and therefore it is difficult to find them blindly. It would be okay if the buttons were flush with the body and at the same time had some unusual texture, which made them easier to find, but in the HTC Desire 600 they are smooth, like the side edges.

Most of the front panel of HTC Desire 600 is a touchscreen display covered with protective tempered glass with an oleophobic coating. Tempered glass protects not only the display, but also the touch buttons, front camera lens and sensors (illumination and proximity). The protective glass has a smooth glossy plastic edging. In the upper part of this glossy insert there is a perforation, under which the communication speaker and multimedia speakers are located. At the same time, the communication speaker, as it should be, is in the center of the grid, and two multimedia speakers are on the sides of the earpiece speaker. Also in the right corner of the upper perforation is an event light. Under the display, on the glossy insert, there are the same perforations as above the display, under which one more multimedia speaker is hidden. The bevels of the front panel to the side edges are made of metal, which is difficult to scratch even with a sharp object.

On the upper side edge of the HTC Desire 600 smartphone, there is an audio output (3.5 mm), a recess for removing the battery cover and a power / lock button. On the bottom side of the device there is a conversational microphone and a microUSB connector. On the right side face there are no controls, and on the left side face there is a paired volume control button.

The back panel of the device is made of a single piece of durable plastic, it fits onto the side edges of the case and is securely fixed on them, in close contact with the aluminum part of the case. The gap between the back cover and the aluminum part of the casing is insignificant, and therefore one might get the impression that the HTC Desire 600 has a unibody casing. The surface of the battery cover is soft-touch coated for high performance. On the back surface, minor scratches, fingerprints and other small dirt are almost invisible. In addition, such a coating prevents the device from sliding in the user's palm.

At the top of the rear panel are the main camera lens and LED flash. The embossed HTC logo is located in the middle of the battery cover. At the bottom of the rear panel there is an inscription informing that the smartphone is equipped with the Beats Audio speaker system.

Under the battery cover there is a removable rechargeable battery with a capacity of 1860 mAh, two slots for installing SIM cards and a slot for installing a memory card. The battery does not interfere with the "hot" replacement of either SIM cards or memory cards. The body of the HTC Desire 600 smartphone is well assembled and feels like a monolithic structure, nothing creaks or looseness.

Operating system and software

The HTC Desire 600 smartphone is running the Android 4.1.2 operating system with the HTC Sense 5.0 proprietary user interface, as in the HTC One model.

The main advantage of the updated interface can be considered HTC BlinkFeed, which is a news stream from sources selected by the user (news sites and social networks). The approximate number of available sources of information is slightly more than 1400. HTC BlinkFeed is located on the far left of the Desktop.

The number of desktops can be adjusted from two (with HTC BlinkFeed) to five. Icons on one desktop can be displayed as a 3x4 matrix or a 4x5 matrix.

The lock screen displays the date, time and weather report. At the same time, from the lock screen, you can get quick access to the functions represented by shortcuts on a special panel at the bottom of the screen. Initially these are Messages, Dialing, Camera and Browser. The preset shortcuts can be changed to shortcuts that provide quick access to more popular functions, but the number of other shortcuts should also be four. By clicking on the central shortcut, which looks like a padlock, the user unlocks the smartphone.

HTC Desire 600 has five unique preset themes that you can change. This will also change the appearance of the lock screen.

The user can hide the selected applications. In this case, with the usual scrolling through the list of installed applications, they will not be visible. You can use hidden applications by going to the "Hidden Applications" menu item.

The HTC Desire 600 has Kid Mode, which is used by parents to prevent their children from accessing inappropriate content.

Like any other Android smartphone, HTC Desire 600 comes with a standard package of applications from Google, which includes email clients, maps, the Play Market, from which each user can download all the missing utilities, etc.

"Iron"

The HTC Desire 600 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chip with four Cortex-A5 cores, clocked at 1.2 GHz. The graphics core Adreno 203 is responsible for processing graphic data, which, frankly, can be safely called morally obsolete. The RAM in the HTC Desire 600 smartphone is one gigabyte. The built-in flash drive of the smartphone has a capacity of eight gigabytes, of which only 4.7 gigabytes are available to the user.

Despite not the most productive "stuffing" the device plays files of AVI and MKV formats with HD resolution (720p) without any problems. The standard video player does not play AC3 sound in video files. If you use a third-party video player, you can even watch Full HD videos on your smartphone. But video with such a high resolution does not always play "smoothly", sometimes "jerking" and "freezing" occur, the reason for which is an outdated graphics chip.

At the same time, the HTC Desire 600 smartphone has higher indicators than its direct competitor Samsung Galaxy Win, since the latter could not play video with HD resolution (720p) on a standard player.

In synthetic tests, the Desire 600 model shows the same results as the smartphones of 2012, built on the dual-core MTK 6577 processors. In the synthetic test AnTuTu Benchmark 3.3, the Desire 600 scored 10,000 points.

The connection quality is at a high level, the signal of the cellular network does not disappear. The communication speaker is loud, its headroom should be enough to ensure high-quality and loud voice transmission, both in a quiet room and in a noisy subway at rush hour. Two multimedia speakers also sound loud and high quality, because it's not for nothing that the Beats Audio logo flaunts on the back of the device. The sound quality, both from speakers and headphones, will delight even the most demanding users.

Autonomy of work

Autonomous operation of the HTC Desire 600 smartphone is provided by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery with a capacity of 1860 mAh. In the synthetic battery performance test Antutu Tester, the smartphone scored 458 points, which is equivalent to one day of operation without recharging.

HTC Desire 600 has a power-saving mode, when enabled, the maximum operating clock speed of the processor is reduced to one gigahertz, and the maximum brightness of the LED backlighting is reduced to 131 cd / m2, but there is no significant increase in battery life. In energy saving mode, the HTC Desire 600 scored only 488 points in the synthetic battery performance test. Thus, we can conclude that sacrificing performance for a small increase in autonomy is not always advisable.

Screen

The HTC Desire 600 smartphone is equipped with a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 960x540 pixels (qHD). The display matrix is made using Super LCD2 technology, and therefore the smartphone screen has wide viewing angles and excellent color reproduction. Even in direct sunlight, the screen does not "fade", since the maximum brightness of the display backlight is 432 cd / m2, and there is no air gap between the protective glass and the matrix. The minimum brightness of the backlight is 24.6 cd / m2, it is quite comfortable for reading in the dark. Also, the screen of the device is distinguished by good factory calibration, the color temperature is slightly overestimated, which gives the image a cool shade.

Camera

The main camera of the HTC Desire 600 smartphone has a resolution of eight megapixels, an aperture of f / 2.0, supports auto focus, is equipped with a bright LED flash and can record videos in HD resolution. The camera interface has a lot of customization options, but the pictures taken with the automatic selection of parameters cannot be called bad. The quality of photos directly depends on the ambient light - the darker, the more noise in the pictures.

The front camera of the HTC Desire 600 has a resolution of 1.6 megapixels. It, like the main camera, can record video with HD resolution. With its primary task of providing high-quality video calls, the front camera does an excellent job.

Competitors

Considering that the cost of the HTC Desire 600 model is rather overstated, all its direct competitors with similar technical characteristics are much cheaper. The main competitor of HTC Desire 600, as mentioned earlier, is the Samsung Galaxy Win smartphone. Also, the competitors of the HTC Desire 600 (in terms of "filling") can be considered smartphones Huawei Ascend G510 and Alcatel OT X'Pop 5035D.
