Fly Ezzy review - a mobile phone for seniors with two SIM cards

Judging by the new trends, many mobile phone manufacturers have begun to produce phones with large buttons for old people. It is likely that the popularity of production will not increase, but in the near future it will simply freeze, since the essence of these phones is simplicity, and adding new functions is already complicating the device. Well, in these devices for the elderly, everything should be as simple and understandable as possible. If you do not look at the replenishing Just5 line with new phones, then there are special competitors in this area for Fly Ezzy, which we are talking about today no more than two today are Samsung 3060R and Voxtel RX500. Today I want to introduce and tell you about another Fly Ezzy device, which wants to take a special place in the segment of phones designed for convenient use by the elderly. I want to immediately notice that in terms of functionality it is much better than its two competitors, but later we will find out whether it is good or bad!

Fly Ezzy and Just5

Body and design

Fly Ezzy looks almost like its predecessors, and especially the Just5 CP10 model, but not in everything. I think this is the best form factor for such a device at the moment, and the fact that it has already been somewhere will not scare Fly, and it will continue to develop this line. Well, the price of the phone is also quite impressive with its small figure with such functionality, this is all thanks to the cheap, but no less reliable plastic case. The dimensions of the phone do not cause the slightest discomfort even during the first communication with it, and its relatively small dimensions, which are 107x50x15 mm, which in turn greatly affects its weight, which is also quite small and amounts to 70 grams. On the left side of the device, the manufacturer has placed a coupled key to adjust the volume of the speakers. Below the volume key is a slider key that activates the radio module. On the other side of the phone there is a button for turning on / off the flashlight, as well as a key that is used to block the device, which in turn is very practical, as it seemed to me. On its upper edge, I found a flashlight, which also works when the phone is turned off, and on the lower edge there is a headphone jack, the dimensions of which are 2.5 mm, it is designed to connect a wired stereo headset. Another connector is also located nearby - microUSB. On the back of the case, we can see a speaker, a large enough key to send a request for help to certain four numbers pre-entered into the phone, as well as this SOS button, activates the sound siren. Most of the back of the device is occupied by a cover that closes the battery. The phone is powered by a 1000mAh Li-ion battery. The manufacturer of the device says that it is able to work continuously in talk mode for about 4 hours, and in standby mode it will work for about 200 hours. But on the territory of Ukraine and other CIS countries, the device can work for about 4-5 days with little use of all its functionality. It takes a little over two hours to fully charge the phone from the mains. By the way, an interesting detail is that this device does not have its own memory, but taking out the battery, I found a slot for microSD memory pockets, but the volume of these cards is not small enough, as much as 8 GB. You can find out whether a memory card is installed in the phone or it is missing in two ways: by removing the battery and looking at it, or in the file manager to see the amount of memory available for use. When connected to a computer, the device without any problems, and without any additional software installations is defined as a "flash drive".

The manufacturer has included in the kit:

  1. lithium-ion battery;
  2. Charger;
  3. wired stereo headset with 2.5 mm jack;
  4. instructions for working with the phone.

Battery

In the supplied kit, the battery charge level is about 50% of the full capacity and allows you to use the phone immediately after purchase. It is recommended to fully charge the battery the first time you use your phone. This will extend the life of the battery.

To charge the battery you need:

• Connect the charger connector to the phone.

• Connect the charger to 220 V.

• During charging, the battery level icon in the upper right corner of the switched on display will indicate the charging process. When you connect the switched off phone to the charger, the charging indicator appears on the display. Note: When using the phone for the first time, it is recommended to charge the battery fully.

Note: When the battery is critically discharged, the display will not show the current state of the battery for 30 minutes from the start of charging. After 30 minutes, the charge status indicator will be visible again.

When the battery charge level icon does not indicate the charging process, but shows that the battery is fully charged, it means that the charging process is complete. The battery charging process can take over 2.5 hours. After the battery has finished charging, you must disconnect the charger from the mains and disconnect the connector from the phone.

Screen and keyboard

Below the small display is the largest part of the front of the device, this is its keyboard. It is precisely the keyboard made in this way that makes it possible to classify the Fly Ezzy device to the model range, which is developed specifically for the elderly or people with disabilities. All buttons are large enough, the size of each of them is at least 16x11.5 mm, which allows you to press the selected button exactly without any errors and inaccurate pressing, which happens with small keys. Like the case, all the buttons are made of fairly good plastic, the numbers printed on the buttons are contrasting white and are quite clearly visible even in complete darkness, this is thanks to the well-designed and specially thought-out keyboard backlighting, which illuminates with orange light. But nevertheless, the vertical central row of keys shines a little better, but the side ones are illuminated a little weaker.

The upper row of keys is used to navigate through the phone menu, there are three buttons here: the left one is used to receive calls, the right one is used to hang up, while the middle row is designed as a swing and is used for vertical (up and down) movement through the phone menu. The Fly Ezzy display is made of a monochrome (black-and-white) matrix, the size of which is 36x23 mm, and the screen expansion is equal to 128x64 pixels. On the screen, when writing sms, for example, no more than two lines of text are placed at the same time, and it can also beat an information line. The letters and numbers on the screen are very large, they are well read at medium viewing angles and are displayed with sufficient contrast. Even when using the phone in the sunlight when the sun's rays hit the screen, I did not have any comments about reading in such conditions.

Menu

Having seen the main menu of the Fly Ezzy phone, I want to say right away that it is not very simple, and even very different from the menu of other similar models. To navigate the menu, the device has a two-position button, i.e. by type as a button for adjusting the sound, the keys are also used to receive and reject calls. And one more peculiarity is that the buttons marked "*" and "#" also play an important role when working with the phone's menu. I also didn’t like the fact that the menu items are made a little non-standard and are located in other sections, and not like in most phones. One example, the player for some reason is in the phone settings section.But I want to note the good side of the menu, which consists in a very good localization, and made at a very good level, as well as the installed eZi dictionaries in Russian and English for fast typing. In standby mode, the main screen of the device contains the following indicators: battery charge level, network signal strength, as well as the current time and date. The main menu is represented by pages that you can scroll through with a two-position button. There are no icons or graphics here, only the text is large enough. You can store up to 100 phone numbers in the phone book, giving each one a name. You can also define a contact into one of five groups, and it is possible to assign a specific melody to each subscriber. In order to find the contact you need, only the first characters you entered are used, you can also create a speed dial list of only no more than 10 numbers. Phone numbers can be saved and transferred both to the phone memory and to the SIM card. There is a section with messages, in which you can create and send only text SMS messages, the length of one such message cannot exceed 612 characters. There are also some prepared templates and multi-mailing is possible. A menu item called Call Center allows you to view the last outgoing, incoming or missed calls, but no more than 10 subscriber numbers in each list. The same numbers are grouped under one, I just indicate their total number next to it. In the same paragraph, by clicking on the properties of the number, you can see its time and the duration of your conversation. Here you can also set the forwarding parameters, well, and other standard settings of the call sub-item. In the Settings section, there are such main parameters that relate to the operation of the SIM card, time and date, security and the choice of a specific profile for work. My Files is the machine's file manager used to manage folders and files. It can also be used from the Settings section, its functionality is to create, view, move, copy and delete folders and files. I also want to note that a significant feature and difference from its competitors is the support for the simultaneous operation of two SIM cards. But for the reason that the device uses only one radio module, the cards work only in standby mode - only one of them will be active at your discretion. The slots for SIM cards are located under the battery, each has its own signature, and are called SIM1 and SIM2, both of which are displayed on the main screen in the form of two network signal bars.

Multimedia

Even in addition to the fact that the Ezzy phone has already begun to be called by the people as a "babushkophone", it still has a very good multimedia functionality. Here I want to note that it has a pretty good audio player, which can be found in the phone's settings. The player is very simple in its functionality and control, you can create various playlists in it, fully supports the name of songs in Cyrillic, and also reproduces any level of bitrate of songs. Songs can be listened to both in random order and repeating them. The phone also has an FM radio module. The radio does not turn on in the phone menu, as everyone is used to, for it, as I have already mentioned, there is a single and special key located on the phone case. Among its functions are the following: storing up to 20 different radio stations in the device's memory, automatic or manual search for stations available for listening, and it is also possible to use the radio in the background.

Caring for your phone and accessories

• The phone, battery and charger are not waterproof.To extend the useful life of your phone and accessories, they must be protected from moisture and not used in bathrooms, rooms with high humidity, or in the rain.

• We recommend using a soft cloth to clean the phone, battery and charger.

• We do not recommend using alcohol, benzine or other solvents when caring for your phone and accessories.

• Dirt on the contacts of the charger connector can cause poor electrical contact and, as a result, the inability to charge the battery.

As a result, I want to note that the device is just excellent in terms of signal reception quality, and the volume of this model is at the highest level, which is also impossible not to notice, so I think that Fly Ezzy copes with its purpose quite well, i.e. ... for use by older people and people with disabilities, it does just fine! And its ability to work with two SIM cards still distinguishes the device from the good side against the background of a few competitors!
