Review MSI GT683 Notebook
Nowadays, the development of computer technology is happening just before our eyes. From year to year, NVIDIA, Intel and AMD corporations release more and more powerful models of processors and video cards, "thanks to" this, laptops and PCs become obsolete quickly and rapidly. So, for example, just a few months ago the fifteen-inch model of the MSI GT680 laptop was considered the most powerful gaming device in the world, and just recently the same brand announced a new model - the GT683. Based on the characteristics of this laptop, we can conclude that it will be able to bypass any modern mobile personal computer! But the most pleasant thing is that the cost of this device is quite humane.
So, the MSI GT683 laptop is equipped with an Intel Core i7-2630QM processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M graphics card. This central processing unit is currently considered the most powerful mobile processor in the world. The same can be said about the graphics adapter. Any gamer will appreciate the progressive design of this mobile device. MSI GT683 laptop, depending on the configuration type, can cost from 1300 to 1800 dollars. Agree that its price is not too high.
Design
MSI gaming notebook models stand out from the rest of the models at first glance. In these devices, the distinctive design emphasizes the power and aggressiveness of the models. This was the case with the GT680, and it was also done with the MSI GT683. The laptop case is made of glossy black painted plastic. MSI's proprietary Color Film Print coating protects the laptop from scratches and wear. Its work area is covered with small diamonds, the touchpad is framed by a chrome outline, fiery red backlight stripes, a textured lid - all this adds elegance and luxury to the laptop.
In fact, the looks of the GT683 differ little from the GT680. Accordingly, all the disadvantages and advantages of the case are the same. So, for example, a glossy laptop lid will quickly become covered with fingerprints. And there are no complaints about the strength of the structure.
This device is not compact in size. Its dimensions are 396 x 269 x 55 mm, and the weight of the laptop is 3.5 kg. The GT683 isn't exactly carry-around. But be that as it may, gaming laptops are not designed for everyday transportation.
Display and sound
Just like the MSI GT680, the GT683 laptop can be equipped with a matrix with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD) or 1366 x 768 (HD). The display has a diagonal of 15.6 inches. As for the image quality, we can say that it is simply excellent, and there are no complaints about the contrast either. The presence of bright saturated colors will delight the eye, both while watching movies and playing games. The screen has standard viewing angles: they are slightly smaller vertically and larger horizontally. Due to the cinematic aspect ratio of 16: 9, the laptop screen will not show the black bars at the bottom and top of the screen while watching HD movies.
The laptop is equipped with MSI's proprietary Cinema Pro technology, thanks to which you can improve the picture quality while watching movies. It is called by one pressing of the hot key.
The speaker system is represented by two Dynaudio speakers and a subwoofer. The MSI GT683 laptop "sounds" loud enough, high quality and loud. Plus, thanks to THX TruStudio Pro technology, you can enjoy clear and spacious sound. Previously, such a system was only available in cinemas.
Keyboard and touchpad
The laptop is equipped with a full-size island-style keyboard, above it there are eight additional touch buttons. The keys are pressed quite clearly, softly and soundlessly. The buttons are rough and have a deep stroke. Gamblers can appreciate the controls. Game keys WASD are highlighted in red. Also, the "red" marking is present at the arrow block.
The backing of the keyboard unit is glossy.In fact, this is the main drawback of the input device, as it will quickly become covered with fingerprints, and cleaning it is not such an easy task. In addition, the keyboard flexes noticeably under pressure from the hands.
There are 8 touch-sensitive keys in the upper part above the keyboard. These include Cinema Pro keys, THX TruStudio Pro, Turbo Drive Engine, Cooler Boost, programmable button and more.
The matte touchpad is framed by a chrome polygon. LEDs can be seen in its upper corners. At the touch pad, the silver buttons are also separated by a triangular LED.
Processor and performance
The laptop comes to store shelves with different configurations. One of the MSI GT683-283 models is, in fact, the most powerful. So, this device is equipped with an Intel Core i7-2630QM processor, its clock frequency is 2000 MHz. Due to the fact that the processor supports self-overclocking technology, this frequency, depending on the load at the moment, can increase up to 2900 MHz. This CPU has 6 MB of L3 cache. The quad-core processor supports Hyperthreading technology, which allows it to simultaneously process up to 8 data streams. The Core i7-2630QM has an integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics card running at 650-1100 MHz and a dual channel DDR3-1333 memory controller. The GT683 uses MSI's exclusive Turbo Drive Engine technology to overclock the system. At the push of one button, the productivity of the device is increased even more.
Taking into account the fact that the laptop is equipped with such a productive configuration, the developers decided to equip the device with a progressive cooling system Cooler Boost. This technology increases the speed of the cooler and reduces the heating of all components of the mobile PC.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M graphics card with 1.5 GB of its own GDDR5 memory handles graphics processing in a laptop. This card is built on a 40nm process technology and supports DirectX 11, PureVideo HD, Shader 5.0, OpenCL, DirectCompute 2.1 and CUDA. This adapter will allow you to play Crysis and Metro 2033 even with high settings.
The MSI GT683 laptop is equipped with DDR3 1333 MHz RAM and has a capacity of 6 GB. There are 4 slots for installing memory sticks. Well, the maximum amount of memory can be 32 GB. The information can be saved to a 640 GB hard drive. Other configurations may have two hard drives, which are combined into a RAID array, or a combination of HDD plus SSD.
Ports and communications
This notebook has exactly the same set of ports and interfaces as its predecessor MSI GT680. On its side faces you can see two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0, a digital HDMI port, VGA (D-Sub), audio input, audio / headphone output, microphone input, eSATA port, LAN (RJ-45), universal card reader (SD, SDXC, SDHC, MS, xD-Picture Card), as well as an optical drive for working with DVD-RW discs. In addition, the laptop works with i-Charger technology. It can be used to charge various devices three times faster via the USB port.
An HD webcam was installed in the display frame. Bluetooth, 3.0 and Wi-Fi, 802.11b / g adapters are responsible for working with wireless communications.
The laptop comes with a nine-cell lithium-ion battery. You shouldn't expect tremendous autonomy from the device, because it has exorbitant power, which means increased power consumption.
Conclusion
This laptop was presented at the last exhibition Computex 2011. Experts of the computer world immediately became interested in it. But why this particular laptop? All this is explained very simply. MSI GT683 has a next-generation quad-core processor and the most powerful NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M graphics card. At the moment, there are not so many such "toys" in the world. And if you take into account that this mobile PC has a lot of useful technologies and functions and also costs less than two thousand dollars in a top-end configuration, then we can confidently say that the GT683 laptop will be able to win the hearts of the vast majority of gamers.
