LED lamps: advantages and disadvantages, differences between LED lamps and fluorescent lamps, their pros and cons

Do you want to buy LED bulbs, but the price "bites"? F.ua will consider the pros and cons of LED bulbs.

Differences between LED lamps and fluorescent lamps

Fluorescent bulbs are affordable and easy to replace. But their practicality and durability leave much to be desired. Such lighting with an imperceptible, at first glance, flicker, quickly tires the eyes.

LED lamps are several times more economical. Unlike luminescent ones, they do not heat up and do not contain mercury. They are made of silicon or ceramics, therefore they are more resistant to mechanical damage. Produces an even, non-flickering light that can be dimmed as desired.

They are divided into two types:

  • for standard cartridges - E14 and E27,
  • for recessed lamps - MR16 and MR11, which are installed in different models of luminaires.

Advantages and disadvantages of LED lamps

The advantages of LED lamps include:

  • long service life - from 6 to 10 years of continuous operation;
  • lighting color - from warm white (up to 3500K) to cold white (5500K and more);
  • LEDs do not burn out with a certain number of on / off switches (compared to incandescent or gas-discharge lamps);
  • the angle of light emission varies from 15 to 180 degrees;
  • safe because they operate on 12 V (volts) DC (via the power supply). Or up to 220 VAC power grid in your home;
  • environmentally friendly, since they do not contain mercury, phosphorus and ultraviolet radiation (in comparison with fluorescent lamps);
  • resistant to low temperatures. They are widely used in the courtyards of private houses.

Disadvantages:

  • focused light, which is convenient for backlighting, but not comfortable in a living room. That is, most of the room will be in semi-darkness;
  • heavy weight, since they are equipped with a radiator. They are not used in small, light fixtures;
  • overheat quickly at high air temperatures. They are not used in the lighting of industrial premises, where the temperature is high and the humidity is high;
  • poorly diffuse light in closed lamps;
  • with prolonged operation, the LED crystals fade and the brightness deteriorates;
  • high price.
