BENQ V2420H Monitor Review

Winner of the 2010 iF Product Design Award, the V2420H stands out for its remarkable balance between modernity and classics. The flowing contours and clean lines of the case are complemented by the refined radiance of the lacquer finish. The BenQ V2420H monitor combines all the most advanced trends, from appearance to internal filling. The main characteristics of any monitor are the indisputable resolution and size. In this sense, BenQ V2420H can be compared to a TV - it has a 24-inch diagonal and 1920 x 1080 pixels. In practice, the 16: 9 format, due to the use of the Full HD matrix, is great not only for video, but also for working with programs.

If on a 16:10 monitor you can arrange two windows side by side, then at 16: 9 with the same window proportions, there is space for an additional side toolbar.

The imaging technology used in this device is LCD with LED backlighting. The LEDs used in the backlight are based on environmentally friendly technology in order to reduce harmful emissions during production and disposal, as well as in terms of energy consumption. The eco-mode of the new monitor offers up to 65% less power consumption than other fluorescent backlight devices. Among other things, the advantages of LED backlighting can be called the absence of screen flickering and, as a result, less stress on the eyes. Image processing is carried out using the Senseye 3 technology, the advantages of which will be discussed later. In the meantime, let's pay attention to the main feature of BenQ V2420H, which makes this device truly unique.

Appearance To be honest, the BenQ V2420H looks amazing. And this is not a single opinion, as the monitor is the recipient of the prestigious iF Product Design Award for excellence in design. This award, along with the equally prestigious Red Dot award, is the highest mark for design art and only goes to the best. The iF Product Design Award is also referred to as the "Design Oscar", so the BenQ V2420H monitor is a rare opportunity to put a true masterpiece on your desktop.

The appearance of this monitor is truly outstanding. Smooth body lines are very harmonious, as if the entire monitor is a single monolithic part. The elegant stand creates the illusion of the screen weightlessness.

BenQ V2420H looks flawless not only from the front. To hide the unsightly backdrop of a monitor, we turn it to the wall, and accordingly, we ourselves rush to face the wall. This position is not always comfortable. With the BenQ V2420H, you can rotate the table 180 degrees. From the side, you will see a chic black monitor back with a logo, and your fit will be much more comfortable. In such a non-tricky way, you can change the ergonomics of the workplace.

There are also some design features of the monitor. The ultra-thin body, only 15 mm thick, does not have its own power supply unit, it is powered from an external source. By and large, this is only a plus, since any power supply unit can create noise, both digital and quite real high-frequency sounds, which we can even catch by ear. And if the block lies somewhere under the table, there will certainly be no problems.

For the sake of design, the developers have placed all the interfaces on the back deck. There was even a headphone jack. It may not seem very convenient, but in fact it is quite easy to feel and insert without even getting up. The support is hinged. The tilt angle forward / backward is 5/15 degrees.

Control

The controls are located on the lower edge on the right. The buttons are easily detected by touch and have good feedback. The location of the buttons is not on the front of the device; the glossy finish does not get dirty.

The menu is not complicated, all the necessary manual settings are present. Image adjustment is made in literally one movement. For this, there are six special operating modes of Senseye3 technology: "Standard", "Cinema", "Photo", "Game", sRGB and Eco. The first four optimize the brightness, contrast, clarity and color of the picture. sRGB is a standard color profile that provides the ultimate in color accuracy. Eco - this is the mode of reduced power consumption, which was mentioned at the beginning.

Picture

In accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, the test must be carried out using the preset modes. When working with office applications and also surfing the Internet, the "Standard" and "Photo" modes turned out to be the best. sRGB should only be used where the content matches this profile. In this situation, there are no complaints about the correct color rendition. In the "Game" mode, the picture is extremely contrasting, has high detail and detailed rendering of dark scenes. It is in this mode that the display of movement is most clear.

Watching the video in the "Movie" mode, we get a soft, warm picture. The claimed contrast in dynamic mode of 10,000,000: 1 is visually really high. The real contrast is 1000: 1. The brightness of the backlight changes almost imperceptibly, so it is not easy to notice when the dynamic mode is activated. To improve grayscale reproduction and more visually perceived contrast, it is best to set the brightness to half the scale and dim the room to dim. In these conditions, films look just great.

In general, the impression from the viewing remained positive. In its price category, the monitor has decent quality indicators, which allows it to be used in any role. In any case, you can adjust the picture in the best possible way and get the highest quality image transmission.

Sound

The situation with the sound of BenQ V2420H is very curious. It has no built-in acoustics. But at the same time, it receives an audio signal via an HDMI cable. To output sound on the monitor case, there is an output for connecting headphones or external acoustics. The solution is functional, albeit unusual. The presence of such an output makes the switching a little easier.

Commutation

The switching set of the model consists of VGA, DVI-I, HDMI and the above-mentioned audio output. HDMI version 1.3, which allows for a wider color gamut and increased color depth. All connectors are located next to the power inlet at the bottom of the rear pad.

Outcome

This monitor is an excellent purchase, both for connoisseurs of beauty and for connoisseurs of high-quality visualization tools. For its price, the device has excellent image quality. As well as the presence of an HDMI input, a rather large diagonal and a Full HD matrix make it a very interesting solution for watching movies, because with such opportunities, you can use BenQ V2420H without any problems not only with a PC, but also with any media player.
