How to clean a coffee maker - descaling a coffee maker, how to clean

To descale your coffee maker:

  • Unplug the unit from the mains.
  • Rinse out the water tank and fill with a solution of 3-4 teaspoons of citric acid or vinegar. Follow the instructions in the instructions: the water should be at room temperature.
  • Place the container in the machine.

Over time, the coffee you make in your coffee maker will lose its aroma and flavor. This is due to the accumulation of limescale and coffee oil, which produces a bitter taste. The coffee maker needs to be cleaned from time to time.

If you are the owner of a professional model of a coffee maker, then everything is simple here. These models have an automatic cleaning mode. Run the program and that's it, after a while the coffee maker will be fine. These cleanings are recommended before brewing fresh coffee.

Rinse your new coffee maker thoroughly before using it for the first time.

Cleaning your home coffee maker

For owners of less advanced models, you need to know the main rules:

  • you can only clean the unit that is disconnected from the network;
  • never dip the coffee maker in water;

Microfiber towels for cleaning car windows and car shells are better at cleaning surfaces than paper towels.

The sequence of servicing simple models is as follows:

  • rinse the coffee maker every time after use. Do not use strong detergents to clean the coffee maker. They can damage the surface. It is better to use mild detergents;
  • it is better to wipe the outer part of the unit with a damp soft cloth;
  • Rinse accessories and small, removable parts with running warm water. But you should not substitute the entire coffee maker under the tap. There are many places in it where moisture should not get. Alternatively, you can use decalcification tablets, which will do well with internal cleaning.

Descale the coffee maker

For descaling, run several cycles with special detergents every month or two. Anti-scale tablets are sold in home appliance stores. We put them in the compartment where we usually pour coffee, fill in a full tank of water, and run the coffee maker idle.

Do not wash the pot with soap, as this will bind the oils that remain after brewing the coffee. For those who trust more "folk remedies" to combat scale, the following method can be advised. Mix one part white vinegar with two parts water. There should be enough liquid to fill the pot completely. If you have never cleaned the coffee maker in the last two or three years, then you need a stronger solution - vinegar and water in equal parts. Other options are also possible:

  • coffee maker cleaners sold at home appliance stores;
  • 30 ml. dissolve citric acid 4 cups of hot water, add 4 cups of cold water to the resulting solution;
  • Whiteners dissolve boiled coffee well, but should only be used to clean glass pots. Do not mix bleach with vinegar or any other acid - the fumes from such solutions are poisonous;
  • do not use baking soda and warm water, as this mixture can clog and break your coffee maker.

Place the filter in your coffee maker before cleaning, as you would before brewing coffee. After that, we start the coffee maker and let the solution pass completely through it. After completing the operation of the coffee maker, take out the filter and pour out the remaining solution, leave the unit to cool for about fifteen minutes. Next, wash the coffee maker with cold water and run another cycle with cold water. This is to get rid of the remaining cleaning fluid.

Scale can be removed without any tools at all.To do this, after each use, simply disassemble the coffee maker and wipe it with a damp cloth. Thus, you will protect it from limescale formation forever.

It is worth considering the hardness of the water. The softer the water, the less limescale and the less you need to clean. To soften the water, you can put a filter and fill the coffee maker with already purified water.
