WHICH PRINTER IS BETTER: laser or inkjet - which one to buy for home, office

The laser printer prints with dry powder. The device forms an image, sprinkles it on paper, bakes it under the influence of temperature. Thus, a stable image is obtained. Suitable for printing term papers, theses and prints - where high resolution and perfect pictures are not required.

A laser device can stand idle for at least 10 years, nothing will happen to it. This is the big "plus" of powder printing. But at the time of operation, the device consumes a lot of electricity and is more expensive than an inkjet device. And you won't be able to refill the cartridge yourself. These are its fatty "cons".

An inkjet printer prints with liquid water-soluble or pigment inks. The image is formed by the print head. Droplets of paint are transferred from the reservoir to the paper by electronic pulses.

The inkjet printer prints photos, diplomas, coursework and more. These products are smaller than laser products. They have cheap printing costs. One bottle of 100 ml of ink is enough for 5000 prints of text. The appliance consumes little power. Works even in a car from a converter. You can print and not worry that the battery runs out. It costs less than a laser one.

An inkjet printer has many advantages over a laser printer. But one big "minus" negates all the advantages: he must be in business on a regular basis. You need to print at least 20 pages a month or five every week. Otherwise, the ink in the cartridges and in the print head will dry out. This renders the device unusable. And the longer the inactivity, the more expensive the repairs will cost.

Aggregates are available in black and white and in color.

  • Laser black and white is ideal for printing text and documents. It is capable of printing large volumes at high speed. It is better to buy it for home and office, if you do not plan to print documents with color graphics and photos.
  • Laser color is suitable for printing images, diagrams, presentations, but not photos. The print is not afraid of water. But here is the other side of the coin: refueling cartridges is expensive.

Refueling of one new cartridge (and there are 4 of them) the laser device has enough, on average, 100-200 sheets. Unlike a color printer, in black and white the cartridge capacity is 3 times more, and the cost of refueling and printing is much less. One refueling is enough for at least 1.5 thousand prints.

Inkjets are color and rarely black and white, with cartridges and with CISS (continuous ink supply system). The latter are portable containers for increasing the volume of ink. The cans are located on the side of the device. They are filled with ink and are automatically fed into the cartridge. If you buy a printer with CISS, you can refuel it yourself at home. But in addition to ink, you will have to buy syringes, gloves and find a place that you do not mind getting dirty.

There are inkjet printers that are refilled only 2-3 times and you need to buy new cartridges that cost the same as the printer itself. This applies to cheap models.

There are two printing principles for inkjet printers - piezoelectric and thermal inkjet. Consider the example of manufacturers Brother, Epson, HP and Canon. The first two have a piezoelectric head, the second two have a thermojet head. Thermal inkjet printheads are cheaper to manufacture than piezoelectric ones. Accordingly, this feature affects the cost of printers. Those that print on piezoelectric heads are more expensive, on thermojet heads - cheaper.

Epson does not refill native cartridges. You can refill original cartridges from HP and Canon. They don't block work and print well. But due to the fact that the thermal inkjet print head is short-lived. It contains elements that boil ink and print in pairs. They also cool down. Because of this, the print head wears out quickly.

We do not recommend that you buy printers with two cartridges. Because each of them is expensive, and it doesn't last long. If you refuel by hand, the refueling will last for 2-3 times. Print a maximum of 700 sheets on one cartridge - throw it away and go buy a new one. And there are two of them. Therefore, the skin is not worth it.

Only Canon with two cartridges can install CISS. This significantly increases the service life of such cartridges from 500-700 sheets to 3-4 thousand and more. Depending on what ink you are using.
