HOW TO CHOOSE A HOB SURFACE - gas, electric, induction hob how to choose

For safety reasons, choose a gas surface with a gas control function. If the flame goes out, the system will block the flow of blue fuel.

The quality of the cooking surfaces is determined by the nozzles - devices that supply gas to the surface. The double or triple flame burners speed up cooking in large containers.

Pay attention to the grates:

  • enameled steel reduce the cost of the panel, however, over time they crack and burn out;
  • cast iron - eternal, if you do not drop them and do not hit them with heavy objects.

The material of the hob also "plays" an important role in its cost and aesthetics.

  • Glass ceramics increases the cost of the panel. It looks expensive and rich, it is easier to care for it. Droplets of fat do not "catch" the eye.
  • The enamel is easy to clean, but it will chip off or wear off if not properly cared for.
  • The stainless steel is "capricious", although it looks presentable: steel "collects" fingerprints and is poorly cleaned.

What you have to put up with if you decide to choose a gas hob

  • With increased fire hazard. An open fire requires attention.
  • Low efficiency - of the order, 40-60%, compared to electric models. Half the energy will heat the air, not the pot.
  • Limited functionality: except for electric ignition and gas control, manufacturers have nothing to "pamper" us with.

Electric hob: how to choose

Electric panels are not what they used to be, when they were heated for a long time and slowly cooled down. The burners are now ready for use within seconds after switching on and cool down quickly. Their power depends on the size of the "pancakes", which are marked with a red circle in the center.

  • Large, with a diameter of 180 mm, on average, consume 1.8 kW / h.
  • Medium, with a circumference of 140 mm, consume 1.2 kWh.
  • Small (120 mm) - 0.8 kW / h.

In simple models, foci with one clear heating limit. "Advanced" are provided with zones of reduction and expansion. This is convenient when you brew coffee in a Turk, or prepare a dish in a roaster.

The cost of the panel is affected by the type of control.

  • Mechanics reduce the cost of equipment, but the turning handles get dirty quickly.
  • The sensors are super sensitive, instantly react to touch. Specify the desired degree of heating - and it will be set immediately.

Glass-ceramic panels are “afraid” of pinpoint impacts, aluminum and copper dishes (a silvery spot remains on the surface). It is undesirable to sprinkle sugar on a hot surface. Grains of sand melt on it and completely spoil the technique.

What you have to put up with when choosing an electric hob

  • With increasing purchase costs approximately 2 times compared to the gas panel.
  • Difficulty connecting: you will need a separate power line.
  • With the need to revise your set of pots and pans. For an electric stove, a dish with a thick bottom is desirable, the diameter of which coincides with the size of the burner. This will save energy and extend the life of the surface.

Combined hobs can be powered by electricity or gas. The heating method is given priority depending on the situation. Depending on the modification, one burner can be electric, the rest can be gas, or vice versa.

How to choose an induction hob

Induction hobs only heat the bottom of the cookware. Glass ceramics does not heat up, it heats up slightly from the hot bottom. You can touch the surface with your hand and it is not scary to spill sugar, it will not burn -))).Even if milk escapes, there are no difficulties with cleaning the surface: wipe with a napkin and order. And frying on an induction hob is more convenient (especially if you don't want to stain it with fat) - spread paper or waffle towels on the surface and cook through them. Great, isn't it ?!

The hotplates heat up in no time, and the water in the pot boils in minutes. And after switching off - the heat supply stops instantly.

Advanced induction models are equipped with a rapid heating plate - on it, water boils in literally seconds. The flow of energy is not consumed to heat the coil, but only to create a magnetic field in the induction coil. The panel "adjusts" to the dishes if the diameter of the bottom and the heating zone do not match. If we compare - induction or electric - the first is more economical by 50%.

What you have to put up with if you choose an induction hob

  • With an impressive price tag. The purchase will cost 500-900 USD.
  • With additional costs for special cookwarewhich is magnetised.
  • With little fan noisethat cools the stove.

For people with a pacemaker, the induction hob is prohibited. Its electromagnetic field causes the device to malfunction. You cannot get closer than 50 cm.

Best of all, the cost of built-in hobs is not off scale. If you decide to equip your kitchen with such appliances, it will not cost you much more than a traditional stove.
