WHAT TYPE OF HOOD IS BETTER - how they differ and which one is better to take to the kitchen for a gas stove

There are two types of hoods: recirculating and exhaust air. The only advantage of the recirculation model is that it only needs to be plugged into an outlet. It is equipped with a carbon filter that absorbs odors and a coarse filter that traps droplets of grease and soot. Such a hood sucks in air, cleans it and returns it back to the kitchen. Recirculation will not remove excess moisture or add oxygen to your kitchen. Some models have a quartz lamp for ultraviolet air disinfection.

The recirculation mode is convenient when there is no way to make repairs and remove the air duct from the kitchen. The performance of such ventilation is one third worse than that of models with a vent. But they consume less electricity - what is needed to save family finances.

Models with air extraction are more difficult to install, but these are the best hoods. They draw vapors through an air duct into a ventilation shaft or through an opening in a wall to the outside. Their motor creates a strong outflow due to the pressure drop. Polluted air quickly goes out into the street, and instead of it fresh air enters the kitchen.

A significant disadvantage of recirculation models is that their carbon filter quickly clogs up. If dirt accumulates in the cleaning system, the engine works with double load, the air is cleared worse, the device may break. In advanced models, there are indicators that indicate that the filter needs to be replaced. This is usually done 2-3 times a year.

In flow-through devices, there are only grease filters that protect the fan blades and inner walls from grease. They will have to be washed about once a month, but this is cheaper than buying a charcoal filter.

Which hood is best for a gas stove

If you cook a lot on the gas stove or smoke, it is better to choose a range hood. Recirculation models are not able to cope with the products of gas combustion. To maximize performance, use smooth PVC pipes instead of corrugated ones for ducting. Bends in the corrugation increase the noise in the operating device.
