Many families have multiple devices that can be connected to the internet. Computers, tablets, TVs with Smart-TV technology. The question of how, for example, to connect two computers to one Internet is not an idle one.
There are four ways to connect multiple devices to the internet.
- Network hub or hub. Now these devices are practically not produced. The bottom line is simple: a cable from the provider is connected to one of the hub ports, and it evenly divides the Internet stream across all ports, regardless of whether a computer is connected to the port or not.
- Network switch, aka a switch. Outwardly, it is similar to a hub, but the main difference is that it can distribute flows to active ports. There are two types: managed (with a network interface) and unmanaged. If you don't need wireless internet at home, then a managed switch will be the best choice.
- A network router, aka a router. It is similar to a managed switch, but has a dedicated port for attaching a provider's cable, most of it has Wi-Fi. The ideal device for connecting computers both over the network and over Wi-Fi.
- Wi-Fi hotspot. You connect a cable from the provider to a Wi-Fi router, and it “distributes” the Internet exclusively via Wi-Fi. Convenient if you do not want to pull cables through the entire apartment. To connect a stationary computer to such a network, you will need an appropriate Wi-Fi adapter.
