HOW TO CHOOSE A BULGARKA - which grinder to choose for the house, types of grinders

The capabilities of the grinder (aka angle grinder - angle grinder) depend on the equipment used and the correct choice for the purpose. Its main task is to grind. But thanks to replaceable discs, this tool can cut, clean and polish materials.

  • Cutting discs are used for cutting.
  • Grinding discs of various grain sizes are suitable for cleaning and grinding.

When choosing a grinder, pay attention to its dimensions and weight.

  • Small - with a disc diameter of 115 and 125 mm, weighing up to 3 kg - it is easier to work in hard-to-reach places. It is important that it has a thin grip that fits well in the hand, because it is inconvenient and unsafe to hold the thick grip.
  • Medium - with a circle of 150 and 180 mm, weighing up to 5 kg - it is convenient to gouge a concrete wall. A small one is rather weak for this, and a large one is heavy, you quickly get tired of holding it above your head.
  • Large - with a disc diameter of 230 mm and a weight of up to 6 kg - just right for cutting blocks and reinforcement. Will not let you down!

The main thing is not to buy a cheap grinder. Yes, it looks good-looking (the Chinese know how to do it beautifully!), But inside - handicraft! The thin wire is covered with a thin layer of cheap Chinese varnish. At the slightest load, such a grinder heats up, the varnish melts and a short circuit is ensured. It is better to buy a tool of the middle price category of a good brand. Such a grinder can be used continuously, it does not heat up even in the heat.

Which grinder to choose: 6 important parameters

When choosing an angle grinder under your hand, look at the indicators below.

Disc diameter

This is the main characteristic. It determines how deep to cut or cover the surface when grinding. The diameter varies from 100 to 300 mm, but the most common ones are 125 and 130 mm. The larger the disc, the wider the range of work performed by the grinder. Manufacturers indicate an upper limit, so if you buy a grinder with a 115 mm circle, you will not be able to install a 125 mm or 150 mm plate on it.

You shouldn't bother with the power of the grinder, there is plenty of it. For a small instrument it is 600-1100 W, for a large one from 2000 W - there is no feeling that the angle grinder is weak. Do not think that if the grinder is more powerful, then there will be more revolutions. Not! Turnovers are a standard value. This figure is in some way unrelated to power. All discs and attachments are designed for exactly these rpm.

The wider the disc, the lower the speed.

  • Circles of small diameter (up to 125 mm) are designed for rotational speeds up to 10-11 thousand rpm.
  • Discs 180 mm - at 8500 rpm.
  • And circles with a diameter of 230 mm are designed for 6650 rpm.

Speed control

If you are cutting tiles, the regulator will come in handy! Because the tiles are cut and marble is polished at medium speed, and they work with plastic in the same mode, so it melts less. So the function is useful: you can use it when needed.

With a decrease in speed, the power and cooling capacity of the tool decrease in direct proportion - the grinder heats up more. Conventional metal cutting discs wear out quickly at low speeds.

Smooth start

For a small grinder, this function is not needed for nothing. And that's why:

  • with a soft start, a prerequisite is to tighten the nut that holds the disk in order to fix the gearbox;
  • and with an abrupt start, you do not need to clamp anything. It is enough to screw a nut on the disk and that's it: you can start! With a sharp start, the nut together with the disk remains in place for some time by inertia, does not turn. And the rod, which is threaded inside, turns.Due to this, self-clamping of the disk is obtained - this is quite enough for safe operation.

For a large grinder, a smooth start is important and necessary. A powerful tool consumes a lot of energy when starting up suddenly. In addition, heavy stones and brushes for metal are "hung" on it. A sudden start creates a large shock load on the gearbox. In order to "feel sorry" for him, so that the light does not blink and the plugs in the electric meter do not burn, let it be better that the big grinder spins up smoothly. Moreover, on a large grinder with or without a smooth start, the disk will still have to be clamped.

Which side of the disc is placed on the grinder - with the pattern inward or outward?

It doesn't matter if there is no arrow on the disc that indicates the direction of rotation. According to the rules, place the disc with a metal ring (the one in the middle) on a grooved washer. Don't look at the drawing, look at this ring, place it on a grooved surface, and the circle will last longer.

Protective guard and additional side handle

These elements make working with the sander comfortable, productive and safe.

  • The casing protects against splinters. Depending on the type of work and the equipment used, it can be adjusted.
  • For budget models with a screwdriver or hex key.
  • With professional tools, the tilt angle is changed with one click.
  • The additional handle is designed for comfortable holding of the tool. Some models have it swivel in three positions - left, right and top of the case.
  • In the budget version, it is made in the form of a plastic rubberized handle.
  • For professional models, the handle is equipped with an anti-vibration system. It extinguishes shaking when you have to work for hours without letting go of the grinder. The hands do not get so tired.

A thin disc cuts better than a thick disc. But they cannot cut deep in the cut for a long time, the stone quickly becomes thinner. Therefore, use discs of different thickness depending on the cutting depth. For body repairs, discs with a thickness of 1.2 mm are used. And if you cut the pipe, it is better to use a thicker one - 1.4 mm or 1.6 mm.

Dust protection

Dust is the main enemy of the grinder. With the air, it gets into the middle of the tool and over time damages the internal parts. The most common way to protect against dust is with motor winding armor. They are covered with several layers of special resin. Some manufacturers make dust extractors inside the housing, installing an impeller in front of the motor armature, which throws large dust particles to the walls of the housing. Thus, the dust passes through the body of the angle grinder and does not settle on important parts of the tool.

Anti-jamming disc protection system

Fires when an edge gets stuck in the material while cutting. In this case, the engine will stop - thereby preventing kickback and a traumatic situation.
