HOW TO CHOOSE A Faucet - types of faucets, which is better to choose for the washbasin and in the bathroom

To choose a bathroom faucet, let's take a closer look at their pros and cons. There are 5 types of these plumbing fixtures.

Swivel valve with a long spout ("gander")

Morally outdated "grandfather's" universal faucet for small bathrooms. When the bathtub and sink are close to each other, it is attached to the wall in such a way that the spout pivots towards both the first and the second.

A plus:

  • replaces two mixers - saves money.

Minuses:

  • now it is difficult to find a sink without a tap hole - you will have to cover the hole with something;
  • ugly asymmetrical arrangement in relation to the bath and sink;
  • if the pipe outlets are too low, it is impossible to install a convenient mixer model;
  • located high above the bathroom, so the water is drawn noisily;
  • it is impossible for two people to use the bathroom and sink at the same time;
  • there is always a risk of spilling water on the floor by turning the spout;
  • not always equipped with a shower head.

Wall-mounted surface-mounted faucet with short spout and shower head

It can be rotary or monolithic. Swivel makes sense if the pipe leads are in the middle of the long side of the bath: the spout is removed to the side so that it does not interfere with taking a shower or bath.

Pros:

  • the largest selection of wall models;
  • easy installation allows you to freely plan the interior of the bathroom;
  • low cost of installation.

Minuses:

  • the body of the mixer protrudes significantly from the wall;
  • sometimes it is impossible to hide the thread of the fittings that attach it to the pipe leads.

Concealed mixer

The base of the concealed mixer is wall-mounted. Outside there is only a spout, a water supply regulator, an outlet and a holder for a watering can.

A plus:

  • looks stylish and respectable.

Minuses:

  • for installation, the wall needs to be channeled or extended by at least 8 cm;
  • high price of the mixer and installation.

Built-in mixer with horizontal shower head

Placed on a horizontal surface - next to the bathtub or on its side. The easiest way is to mount on an acrylic bathtub, since it is easy to make cutouts in it.

Pros:

  • looks original on the bath;
  • leaves the wall clean - and this visually enlarges the bathroom space.

Minuses:

  • taking a shower, you have to constantly hold a watering can;
  • it is not always convenient to set the hose of the watering can into its hole.

Floor standing mixer

It is a free-standing column next to the bathroom.

A plus:

  • looks insanely stylish.

Minuses:

  • a pipe must be laid to the installation point in the floor;
  • installation and repair of the floor model is complex and costly.

Which mixer is better

The answer is simple: comfortable and beautiful. Beauty depends on how well the faucet design matches the interior of the entire space and the design of the washbasin or bath. There is no “one right” vision, so we advise you to explore as many bathroom design options as possible. At some point, this will give you a sense of what is good for you personally.

Convenience depends on the method and place of installation. Here, clear principles already apply:

  • think over where the sink or bath will be located;
  • select a specific model of a washbasin or bath;
  • based on their dimensions - width, length, depth, location of the drain hole - select a point for the mixer and its model.

Which mixer to choose for the sink

When we are taking a bath, the volume of water is important to us. Whereas in the sink you only need a jet. This means that you can choose a faucet that delivers a full jet with less water consumption. This is achieved by means of an aerator - a mesh at the outlet of the spout. The aerator cuts off up to 30% of the water and saturates the jet with air bubbles, making it more pleasant to the touch. Washes in the same way, but there is more pleasure and savings.

And yes, it is important to choose a washbasin faucet so that there is room for your hands, after all! It is impossible to estimate the height and length of the spout from the photo - always study the mixer diagram with dimensions!
