The line is equipped with a wide range of Intel Core processors, an integrated Intel graphics card or a separate NVIDIA NVS 3100M graphics chip, as well as two display options. In this review, we take a look at this Dell laptop in comparison to other business laptops on the market.

Build and design

The Dell Latitude E6410 has a very modern look, although some design elements remain from the previous generation. The E6400 was covered in a dark alloy shell. The E6410 retains the style of its predecessors, but the laptop's cover has changed to a metallic silver, which is similar to the D630 and D620 models. The surface finish is pseudo-brushed (paint rather than brushed metal like the HP EliteBook) to prevent fingerprints from accumulating on the surface. The laptop's bottom lid has retained its black metallic hue, and large service panels will provide access to components for repairs or upgrades in the future.

The interior of the E6410 is matte almost everywhere except for the keyboard. There are no glossy or reflective surfaces other than a small chrome embossed lettering with the Dell logo. This is great if you are using your laptop in bright light where reflections can get in the way of your work. This also means that small dirt or fingerprints will not be conspicuous.

Build quality is excellent, and the metal panels on the top and bottom also lend a solid feel to the structure. In the business laptop market, not all manufacturers use a metal coating, for example, after the T60 ThinkPad series, Lenovo began using plastic on the top panel and continues to do so today. HP EliteBook continues to use metal in laptop cases, with the exception of budget models, of course.

The Latitude E6410 has good stiffness and flexural resistance in all the places where these disadvantages are common. The wrist rest and touchpad resisted bending even under significant pressure. The keyboard directly above the optical drive remained firm, even many laptops showed some weakness in this area. If you take the laptop by the wrist rest and try to turn it in your hands, you will not hear the squeak of the body parts and you will not see the bend. The screen lid gives it slightly above average protection and reliably protects the screen from damage from the keyboard side in case of transporting the laptop in a cramped backpack full of other things. If you try to press on the display lid while the laptop is running, then only with significant force will distortion appear on the screen.

In the event of an upgrade or repair, it is very easy to gain access to laptop components. Dell has designed the entire bottom cover to open with just one screw. After removing the cover, you get access to all important nodes - WWAN, Wi-Fi, memory connectors, processor, fan, CMOS battery. Thus, the E6410 is arguably one of the most convenient notebooks to upgrade.

Ports and other equipment

The Latitude E6410 has a variety of communication ports - three USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA / USB combo port, VGA and DisplayPort output, audio outputs, LAN, and FireWire-400.Others include optical drive, SDHC card reader, and SmartCard reader.

Front: SDHC-card slot

Back side: LAN, DisplayPort out, power connector

Left side: Kensington lock, VGA-out, one USB 2.0 port, eSATA / USB, SmartCard reader

Right side: ExpressCard / 54 slot, FireWire-400, optical drive, audio outputs, Wi-Fi switch, two USB 2.0 ports.

Display and speakers

Dell offers this model with two 14.1-inch display options - the base model with a WXGA 1280x800 screen resolution and the more advanced WXGA + 1440x900 panel option. Both panels have a matte finish, which is much better in terms of comfort, as reflections of foreign objects often appear on glossy displays. Higher resolution is much preferable for any activity - from surfing the Internet to working in an office program. In tests, the screen showed itself to be average in terms of color saturation and contrast, yielding to some displays on the market. Contrast measurements showed a level of 140: 1, which is slightly below average.

It's certainly not that far from other business laptops. Peak brightness was measured at 336 nits, which is excellent for daylight or bright office lighting. The display backlight unevenness was 20 nits between the center area and the edges. There are no screen highlights in the corners. The viewing angles of the display are average, vertical - 15-20 degrees, horizontal viewing angles were better - 60-75 degrees off-center.

The Latitude E6410 laptop has slim stereo speakers located on either side of the keyboard. More than enough for business use, they offer a significant volume level for listening to music in a small room. Audio quality is average, with mids and highs present. Of course, there is not enough bass, but without a subwoofer there could be no other. The audio outputs include an analog headphone output that will work with most external audio systems.

Keyboard and touchpad

The Dell Latitude E6410 has a very comfortable LED backlit keyboard. The keyboard has not undergone significant changes compared to the previous model, retaining this look, as well as the built-in mini-joystick. The keyboard is black with bright white lettering. The feeling is the same as typing on the Chiclet-style keyboard. The pressure on the keys when typing is minimal, while the keys emit a barely noticeable "click". Compared to the Latitude D630, keyboard noise is significantly reduced. Compared to other business notebooks, the E6410's keyboard performed very well.

Dell has integrated an ALPS touchpad into the E6410, which has been significantly improved over the past few years. A significant number of shortcomings found in the previous version have been eliminated, making navigation more convenient. Sensitivity is excellent at default settings, although there are still some issues with grabbing and dragging an item. The touchpad accepts two- and three-finger gestures for scrolling and zooming in. Together with the keyboard joystick, the E6410 is also equipped with an additional set of keys that can be programmed. The joystick and key feedback is also commendable.

Performance

System performance was beyond praise with a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 processor and an NVIDIA NVS 3100M graphics card with 512MB of video memory. Dell offers several options for delivery - for example, in terms of video cards, there are two options - an integrated Intel GMA HD graphics card and a dedicated NVIDIA NVS 3100 graphics card with 512MB of memory. The hard drive has three options - 5400 and 7200 rpm, as well as a model with 128GB SSD. Our laptop was equipped with a 250GB 7200 rpm Black Scorpion, which featured fast loading times for applications, although an SSD drive would have been faster.

In day-to-day use, the system works great for loading web pages or when working with office programs. In addition, the laptop perfectly coped with playing HD movies, playing HD videos from the Internet, and even provided the opportunity to play computer games. The NVS 3100M video card allows you to play almost all modern computer games, although the quality of detail will have to be set at the "low" or "medium" level, depending on the requirements of the game. For users who are not interested in the opportunity to play games, it is more advisable to purchase a laptop without a dedicated video card - to use the integrated Intel GMA HD video chip for longer battery life.

Heat dissipation and noise

The Dell Latitude E6410 performed well during the test, keeping critical areas like the wrist rest and touchpad relatively cool. In the peak mode, after running the benchmark, the temperature of the lower part of the case was recorded at 35.6 degrees. The fan noise during the tests remained at an acceptable level, the fan speed remained low under light load, and only increased to medium speed in heavy mode (with the benchmark programs).

Accumulator battery

Dell has kindly included a 9 cell high capacity battery with the test laptop, although a 6 cell 60 Wh battery is considered standard. The test result was a pleasant surprise, despite the presence of a high-performance processor and a separate video card. With screen brightness set to 70%, Wi-Fi on and web page refresh every 60 seconds, the Latitude E6410 lasted 7 hours and 2 minutes. During the test, the average power consumption was 10-12 watts.

conclusions

Dell Latitude E6410 leaves the same pleasant impression as the E6400 before it, the model sticks to its "roots" - using metal in the finish, which could be seen in the D620 and D630 models. The performance of the laptop is excellent, thanks to the Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA NVS 3100M graphics card, so the system will "pull" any application that needs to be run on this business laptop.

The build quality and body rigidity are fantastic, and the display lid is also made of metal. Users who like to do repairs or upgrades with their own hands will be pleasantly surprised by the presence of only one cover, which provides access to all important parts of the laptop and to remove it, you need to unscrew only one screw. Compared to the HP EliteBook 8440w and Lenovo ThinkPad T410, the Latitude E6410 looks decent and has good performance. Summing up, we can say that the Dell Latitude E6410 is definitely worth the money spent on it.

Benefits:

- Nice looks and excellent build quality

- Ease of upgrade

- Long battery life
