How to choose boxing gloves?

Sooner or later, every boxing person needs to buy their own boxing gloves. Buying your own gloves is very important as not all boxers are given gloves at all competitions. Of course, you need to make the right choice. Today there is a large selection of boxing gloves. It will be difficult for a person who has recently started boxing to choose the right gloves, since the choice is really very wide.

History of boxing and boxing gloves

Boxing is one of the most ancient martial arts. Someone considers it a real art, someone considers this sport to be an exceptionally bloody fight. To understand the essence of this male hobby, which is included in the program of the Olympic Games, one can only learn more about him than an ordinary person who is not involved in boxing knows.

The history of boxing dates back to the distant past. The history of boxing gloves is more than 3 thousand years old. For the first time something similar to boxing gloves was used in ancient Greece, where bandages made of soft leather were used as protection for the hands. Fist fights were part of the ancient Olympic Games. There is also a legend that the founder of fistfights was Hercules. Then, as now, the fighting was fought in a square area, which was fenced in with ropes and sprinkled with sand. The fight ended with the final victory of one of the fighters or with a plea for mercy. In the gladiatorial battles of Ancient Rome, they tried to increase the force of the blow, so metal linings were worn on the hands. Fist fights were part of the training of warriors. The Orthodox Church, despite the relaxed rules, considered fistfights an inhumane sport, and therefore prohibited them.

The Gloved Boxing Rules were developed and published by the Marquis John Douglas of Queensbury in 1865 and provided the foundation for modern boxing rules. But even after the creation of such rules, fighting with "bare fists" continued for a quarter of a century. In 1889, the last gloveless fist fight was held in America between Mitchell Kipriweep and John Salpivan.

The organizers of the 1st and 2nd Olympic Games considered boxing to be an inhuman sport, and therefore it was included in the program of the Olympic Games only in 1904, since at that time boxing in America became a very popular sport. After 4 years, in London, boxing was included in the Olympic Games program. But only since 1920 boxing has officially become a permanent Olympic discipline. At the same time, the popularity of this sport is growing sharply.

The most expensive boxing gloves in the world are considered to be $ 20,000 diamond gloves, which are encrusted with white (10 carats) and black (35 carats) diamonds. Also included in these gloves is gold.

Types of boxing gloves

There are several types of boxing gloves. Boxing gloves are divided into types depending on the purpose:

- professional;

- training;

- trainer gloves;

- shell (used to work with various shells (pears, bags, etc.).

Professional boxing gloves

Used in professional fights. Basically, these gloves are made to order by the boxer. Fixation exclusively on the laces.

Boxing Training Gloves

Training boxing gloves are used in amateur boxing competitions, as well as during training.

Shell Gloves

Projectile gloves are designed exclusively for use with projectiles. These gloves have a tighter filling. Fixation - with Velcro or elastic.

The main characteristics of boxing gloves:

- weight (measured in ounces);

- filler;

- material of manufacture;

- fixation.

Depending on the purpose, the weight and material of manufacture of boxing gloves may be different. The inside has a foam filling to cushion the impact.

Filler

There are two types: cotton and professional (foam rubber or foam foam). The cotton wool will clump over time, which can cause injury.

Fixation

Boxing gloves are fixed with Velcro or lacing.

Drawstring boxing gloves are a great choice as they provide a strong hold. The lacing runs from the beginning of the palm to the wrist. Gloves with this type of fixation are used in professional competitions. The only drawback is that you cannot wear such a glove yourself.

Velcro boxing gloves are the most popular. Despite the worse fixation (compared to lacing), they are comfortable to put on, and this does not require additional assistance.

Glove weight

Professional and training glove weight options: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 oz (ounces).

The weight of the professional gloves is determined by the competition rules (mainly 8 and 10 ounces).

Training gloves should be selected according to the boxer's weight:

4-6 ounces - baby gloves;

8-10 ounces - youthful;

12-14 ounces - boxer's weight 80-100 kilograms;

16-20 ounces - 100 kilograms and above.

The size of the gloves depends on their weight. It should be remembered that the greater the weight of the boxer, the heavier the gloves should be - this rule should be followed in the process of preparing for the competition. Requirements for gloves and other sports equipment for competitions are determined by the rules of their conduct.

Equipment and trainer gloves are available in sizes S, M, L, XL (depending on the size of the boxer's hand).

Boxing gloves are distinguished by the material from which they are made: leather or leather substitute.

Important advice! When choosing boxing gloves, you should wrap your hand with a boxing bandage so as not to be mistaken with the size, since the training will take place with bandaged hands.

Hands under gloves must be bandaged. The boxing bandage, which is 2.5m to 4.5m in length and is mainly made from cotton or cotton with elastic, protects the wrist from injury and absorbs moisture (this will keep the gloves dry). The entire hand, without fingers, should be bandaged.

P.S. When choosing boxing gloves, pay attention to the products of the Everlast company. Since 1910, she has been producing boxing gloves that have gained popularity all over the world. Muhammad Ali, Joe Fraser, George Foreman, Mike Tyson entered the ring wearing boxing gloves from this company. The company offers its customers training gloves (for example, Everlast Protex 3 Elite EVPXSGV), professional and amateur (Everlast EVAGU) gloves.

Thanks for attention! Happy shopping!
