The curved TV set is designed for the natural movement of the human eye horizontally, therefore, it reduces the difference between the distance to the center and the edge of the picture. It is small, but it is of great importance for the brain: it completes a more panoramic picture. This makes the screen seem larger than its real size.
Ultra-high definition (4K, or ULTRA HD) is another plus of a curved screen TV. It is 4 times sharper than Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels). Even if you watch a movie in Full HD, the TV converts it to a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels, significantly improving the picture quality.
Which TV is better straight or curved
To verify the manufacturers' claims, I ran a small subjective test. Here is my opinion on how a curved TV differs from a flat one of the same diagonal:
- I confirm that the picture on the curved model seems larger;
- the image on it is more detailed and looks more realistic;
- "Bent" creates the effect of presence;
- watching movies on it is more interesting: a pleasant novelty of perception has appeared.

Cons of a curved TV
Chagrin for lovers of collective viewing: the TV-arc is not suitable for this. It has only one comfortable viewing point located opposite the center of the screen. It is worth shifting a little to the side, and the picture will begin to distort. Screens with a "concavity factor" are optimal for an audience of one or two people, therefore they are rightly referred to as a technique for egoists.
Should you buy a curved TV for two? None of you will find yourself in front of the center of the arc, but a trade-off is possible due to the larger diagonal of the screen. It will allow you to sit further away from the TV. At the same time, there will be less optical distortion, deterioration of viewing angles and contrast.
Why not sit head to head, hugging each other closely? For a couple in love, a curved TV will give much more opportunities to give each other warmth. Let's get closer to our loved ones.
