The system unit is the part of the computer that is responsible for processing information. It is a case with a motherboard, a processor, storage devices, a power supply, a video card (not always), and a processor cooling system. Thus, when an empty case is called a system unit, they confuse the car body with the engine.
Selecting a system unit means choosing a ready-made PC assembly, except for a monitor, keyboard and mouse. It determines the performance of your machine.
How to choose a good system unit
The "goodness" of a computer is measured by only two parameters: performance and quietness of work. Performance depends on:
- processor,
- the amount of RAM,
- speed of read-only memory devices,
- video cards.
How noisy the system is depends on:
- processor cooling systems,
- power supply,
- video cards,
- hard drives.

How to choose a gaming system unit
A gaming PC should be as powerful as possible. So, you need to choose a system unit for games with top-end components.
Processors:
- Intel - Core i5, Core i7 (generations Coffee Lake, Kaby Lake, Skylake);
- AMD - Ryzen 7, FX.
Video Cards:
- GeForce GTX 1070 Ti / 1080/1080 Ti;
- Radeon RX 570, Radeon RX 580, Radeon RX Vega;
- The amount of memory: at least 4 GB, 8 GB is optimal.
Memory:
- at least 16 GB of RAM;
- the game must be on an SSD.
About the silence of the work. At maximum graphics settings in resource-intensive games, the video card will make noise. Under normal load, a top-end system will be quiet if it has a good processor cooling system (read our article "How to choose a processor cooler according to the pro method").
