Liquid spilled on the laptop can damage the computer. What if this happened?
We immediately disconnect the laptop from the power supply - we pull out the cord from the outlet, and then the battery. This must be done quickly. Shutting down through the operating system is too long a process, and water can reach the contacts and elements of the laptop, which will lead to a short circuit.
What to do if water gets on the laptop? Turn the laptop over with the keyboard down and shake it lightly to get rid of the water. You should not be zealous, a laptop is a fragile thing. After that, put the laptop with the keyboard down and let it dry. You need to dry it for at least a day, and for a guarantee you can take longer.
If you are an experienced user, disassemble the laptop. Places where there is a lot of moisture, we wipe with a cotton swab. Be sure to check if moisture gets under the processor crystal. We blow out the parts of the laptop with a hairdryer. We leave to dry for several hours.
If you do not spill water, but sweet tea, coffee or something else, then simple drying is indispensable. The liquid will dry out leaving stains, the keys will stick, and it will be problematic to use the keyboard. It must be rinsed under running warm water, wiped with a dry cloth and allowed to dry thoroughly. To guarantee, put the keyboard in a mild soapy solution for ten minutes, only then rinse with warm water.
Dry the keyboard in an upright position. It is better not to lean against the battery or radiator, the hair dryer also does not need to be used, so as not to damage the circuits and contacts. At room temperature, it will dry out in a day. During this time, we do not touch the keyboard.
After the keyboard, we take up the motherboard. Again we take a cotton swab or a thin brush and a soap solution (it is better to use dishwashing detergent). After that, we wipe the device over the entire area where moisture has got into. The processor socket must be additionally dried with a stream of warm air. You can use a hairdryer. We turn it on at maximum speed, but the air should be slightly warm so as not to melt the plastic.
The above methods help if you act quickly. If the assembled laptop does not work afterwards or does not behave as usual after preventive maintenance, then it is better to take it to a service center.
Of course, it's best not to spill anything at all. The recommendations here are simple:
- it is better not to drink coffee, tea or water in the workplace;
- if not drinking at the workplace does not work, then never place a cup in the space between you and the laptop (see photo, the risk zone is indicated by a red circle).
