The phone does not see the USB flash drive or memory card - why the smartphone does not read the USB flash drive or the memory card does not work in the phone

A rare phone now does without a memory expansion slot. Additional gigabytes will not hurt, since the built-in memory is often not enough. Especially if you actively take pictures and listen to music using your phone or smartphone. Music, photos, videos - all these require significant amounts of memory. And if the phone suddenly stops seeing the card, then something needs to be done urgently with it. For answers to why the phone does not see the memory card, see below.

Phone problem

First, try removing the memory card and inserting it back. Perhaps the contacts just moved away. If this does not help, then reboot the phone - it may not see the card due to a software failure. The problem may be due to the large volume of the card. New phones chew big cards without any problems, but if your model is not the newest one, it may not be able to “swallow” them.

If simple manipulations with the phone did not help, then you need to check the memory card. This is done using a computer and a card reader. We connect the card reader to the computer and insert the card. If the computer crawls it, then that's good news. Next, you need to check the map for errors - maybe something is wrong with the file system of the card.

For Windows, the sequence is as follows. In the "My Computer" section, find the memory card (look for it in the list of disks). Click on the icon with the right mouse button and select "Properties" from the menu. A window opens with a tab "Service". We are looking for "Check disk for errors", click on the button corresponding to the memory card, right-click on it to open the context menu and select "Properties". In the disk properties window that opens, go to the Service tab. In the Check Disk for Errors section, click the Check Now button. Check the box next to the "Check and repair bad sectors" option and run the scan.

After completing the check, insert the card into the phone. If this does not help, then it is worth taking drastic measures. Right-click on the icon and select "Formatting" from the menu.

Types of microSD cards

It is possible that this type of memory card simply does not fit your mobile phone. This can happen if you bought a new card. Today there are several types of external storage media for mobile devices: SD, miniSD and microSD.

Mobile phones use microSD as it is the smallest version of the SD format. In turn, these cards are divided into four generations:

  • SD 1.0, memory capacity from 8MB to 2GB;
  • SD 1.1 memory capacity up to 4 GB;
  • SDHC memory capacity up to 32GB;
  • SDXC memory capacity up to 2TB.

Now for the important point. In the case of SD cards, there is backward compatibility. In other words, phones that are SDXC capable understand older generations of SD cards. But if you have a relatively old phone, then it will not accept newer cards. At the same time, the form factor, that is, the dimensions, are the same for all generations of microSD cards.

Therefore, before buying a card, you should check with the seller if it will fit this phone.

Formatting the memory card

Before formatting the card, discard all data from it to the hard drive. Otherwise, you will lose them. The procedure itself is not much different from formatting a regular disk. Right click on the icon, select "Formatting" and start the process.

After it completes, copy the data back. We insert the card into the phone. If the formatting does not help, then perhaps the problem is in the phone and then it is worth visiting the service center.
