HOW TO CHOOSE BINOCULARS - what is a good choice or which is better for hunting, for tourism, for fishing

Which binoculars to choose depends on what you are going to look out for - space bodies, game in the forest or a submarine in the steppes of Ukraine.

For fans of the starry sky you need astronomical binoculars - the kings of magnification. With their help, you can find out how things are on neighboring planets and how asteroids live. But on Earth, these "eyes" are completely useless: there are no such distances for which they were born. Due to the gigantic magnification, you will only see cloudy spots.

Military and athletes professional devices will come in handy. These attachments are designed for field use. Protection from moisture and dust, increased durability and a number of additional features will help win medals or save lives. But in other areas, you shouldn't overpay for it. A tripod is required for professional binoculars, since even the slightest body vibrations from heart beats will make the picture in the eyepieces tremble.

Theatergoers, hunters and just curious you should choose standard binoculars, which have many varieties. To decide on a specific model, you need to be aware of the principles of its work, and the features of human vision.

What is the exit pupil busy with or teaching materiel

Before choosing a pair of binoculars, you should at least have a minimal understanding of the terminology used to describe its characteristics.

  • Multiplicity... The magnification of the object of observation relative to its actual dimensions in space. It is denoted by the multiplication symbol and the number to the right of it. The dog in the field, which takes 2 centimeters for you, through the "x10" binoculars you will see as 20 centimeters.
  • Field of view... If you look through binoculars at a very long wall a kilometer away, then its visible segment will be the field of view of the binoculars. For standard models, the parameter is calculated in meters, for astronomical - in degrees. For "terrestrial" instruments, a large field of view is rather a disadvantage: due to curvatures in the atmosphere, the image is blurred at the edges. From an optical point of view, the ideal field of view is between 4 and 6 degrees. If only meters are indicated in the product description, divide their number by 17.4 - so you get degrees.
  • Objective diameter... This is the physical size of the outer lens. It determines the amount of light entering the binoculars and how dark the object you can see.
  • Exit pupil... No, this is not the pupil on Saturday morning. This is the diameter of the space that light hits after passing through the binoculars. If the exit pupil is larger than the human eye, some of the light passed through the lens will be lost. A large lens will simply become an expensive piece of jewelry. The "standard" pupil of Homo Sapiens is 6 mm. To determine the value of the exit pupil, divide the objective diameter by the power factor.
  • Removal of the exit pupil... This parameter determines the distance from the eyepiece to the place in space where the pupil should be located. A high value - over 17 mm - allows you to look through binoculars while wearing glasses.

About prism enlightenment - how to choose good binoculars

The prism enlarges the image, allowing you to see far and clearly. In modern models, two types of prisms are used: porro and roof. The type of prism directly affects the design and dimensions.

In roof prisms, the eyepiece and lens are on the same axis. The porro system, on the other hand, requires an offset layout. Roof based binoculars are more compact, but weigh more and cost more. Therefore porro is a more acceptable solution for an everyday appliance. But the question of which binoculars to choose for hunting gathered more arguments in favor of roof prisms. Structurally, they are more reliable and professional.

AR coating is another important parameter.A prism is made up of a large number of lenses, each of which reflects some of the light back. Unenlightened binoculars transmit only 40% of the light, that is, they will give out a dark picture. To avoid this, a special coating is sprayed on the lenses, which reduces the reflective properties of the glass. Such devices are referred to as coated. If the coating is multi-layer, the multi- prefix is added to the characteristic. If the spraying is applied to all surfaces of the prism, and not only to the external lenses, then the word fully is added to the name. The best binoculars are labeled fully multicoated.

A man's arsenal should have a lot of things - from a hammer to a missile cruiser. Binoculars in this list should not take the last place: this weighty device will tell a lot about your seriousness. Especially if you are a hunter. Come and choose here.
