Among the advantages of the phone are a powerful processor, a large amount of RAM, a high-quality large display and, of course, the proprietary HTC Sense shell. Positioning

HTC Desire became the fifth device from HTC on Android OS and was announced in February 2010. He came out after the no less sensational new items Google Nexus One. But even this does not make you think about the Nexus One again, it is really hard not to notice both visual and technical similarities. In fact, this is one and the same device with minor differences, it was developed jointly by HTC and Google.

HTC Desire is positioned by the manufacturer as a flagship. It became the most powerful Android background for the company after Dream, Magic, Hero and Tatoo. Taking into account the successful sales of previous models on the Android OS, the company decided to release a smartphone that will surprise the audience and demonstrate its technical capabilities, set the fashion. The main competitors for this smartphone will be Motorola Milestone, Sony Ericsson X10 and Samsung Galaxy S.

Design and appearance

We will traditionally start our review of the phone with its appearance. It is quite large, but it is comfortable to hold in the hand, not least due to the smooth, rounded edges and coating. The part of the body around the screen is covered with metal, everything else, including the battery cover, is made of plastic (soft-touch), so the phone is very pleasant to the touch.

This device has a twin brother - Google Nexus One. Their design is very similar. As for the differences, the most noticeable from the appearance is that the Nexus One is slightly thinner, has touch keys and is equipped with a traditional trackball, while the HTC Desire received an optical trackball (touchpad) and hardware keys.

Google Nexus One HTC Desire

On the technical side, it is worth noting that unlike the Nexus One, HTC Desire is not equipped with an additional noise cancellation system and works in fewer GSM bands. The nice thing was that the device got 576 MB of RAM, which is 64 MB more than the Nexus One. Also, the developers worked hard on energy saving, which in turn made it possible to increase the operating time of the phone. And do not forget about the proprietary HTC Sense shell.

Now the HTC Desire smartphone is available in one color version - plastic parts, such as the lid and bottom end, are dark gray, and the metal edging around the perimeter of the screen is made in a light metallic color. This is not to say that the Desire's design is something special. He is pleasant, but not surprising, he is neutral. Who will like it and who will not. The device has a somewhat rounded body, smooth plastic, a minimum of decorative inserts. It is a faster business phone than a fashion phone, so the design is not its main advantage.

As for materials, Desire uses soft-touch matte plastic, the back cover of the battery and the lower part of the case are made of it.The plastic is pleasant to the touch, almost does not get dirty, it is pleasant to feel in the hands. There is a metal edging around the screen - it is delicate, it can be easily scratched or dent.

The smartphone is heavy, its weight is felt well, as well as its dimensions. In the hand, the HTC Desire seems more massive and heavier than the Google Nexus One, although the weight of the former is heavier by a few grams, and the dimensions of the two devices are almost identical.

The lower part of the Desire case is slightly curved upwards, whereas in the Google Nexus One this part of the case, on the contrary, was slightly concave. On this part, the hardware keys and the optical trackball are actually located.

Above is the power button, with which you can simply lock the screen, next to it is a standard 3.5 mm headset jack.

Under the earpiece there are light and proximity sensors, as well as an indicator that blinks when the battery is low, a message is received, a call like that is missed. The screen itself is covered with a protective glass that is resistant to possible scratches.

On the left side there is only a volume rocker, on the other side there is nothing.

At the bottom there is a micro-USB port and a microphone hole.

At the back is a camera with flash and a speaker.

The slot for an additional memory card is located under the cover, which, by the way, closes very tightly, unlike the Nexus One.

The Desire's screen is covered with protective glass, although in reality it is a special, sturdy type of plastic. Although the surface of the screen is scratch-resistant, you can of course scratch it if you wish.

As for the build quality of the device, it is here at a high level. There is no backlash, the only moving part is the back cover of the battery, but it is firmly attached to the case using nine fasteners. Remove the cover carefully so as not to damage these plastic fasteners.

Screen

A separate topic for conversation is the HTC Desire screen. The model is equipped with a 3.7 "AMOLED touchscreen display with a resolution of 800x480 pixels (WVGA), capable of displaying up to 16 million colors. After using TFT displays, this one becomes something incredible, the image quality is much better, the colors are richer, the clarity is higher. The screen has a good margin of brightness. , very bright, with rich colors, in terms of picture clarity, it is on par with any display of similar clarity and diagonal, as well as with such large screens as in HTC HD2 or Samsung i8910HD.It should be noted that during the release of this model there was a shortage of Amoled screens, and later games came from Super TFT screens, which, although not much, still lag behind in brightness.

The display is of a capacitive type, supports multitouch, which is very convenient when working on the Internet, viewing photos or using applications and games. Another nice thing is that the image remains equally clear at different viewing angles.

It is also worth noting that on the street in sunny weather this screen behaves much better than the already familiar TFT display, of course the image is not perfect, but you can use it without much difficulty.

Camera

HTC Desire is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. It will probably not be a secret for anyone if I say that cameras in most HTC models are mediocre, and there is also no hardware button for taking photos. Poor focusing can be called a significant drawback. Indeed, it often happens that it is necessary to take repeated shots for this very reason. It is worth highlighting the face recognition function and widescreen photography. You can also automatically assign GPS coordinates to each picture.

Video shooting in MP4 and 3GP formats is also available, the quality is certainly not high.

Specifications

HTC Desire is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform (QSD8250), with a processor frequency of 1 GHz. Due to such a powerful processor, the phone works very quickly, no delays are noticeable.

The device got 576 MB of RAM and 512 MB of memory for data storage. If there is enough RAM, then there are difficulties with the chosen application, this was especially noticeable in the version of the Andorid 2.1 operating system, due to the impossibility of installing applications on a memory card. With the release of the new version of Android 2.2, this problem was resolved, and the kit also includes an 8 GB memory card.

Operating system

HTC has launched a model running Android 2.1 (Eclair) and the familiar HTC Sense shell. Updates of the operating system appear gradually. At the moment there are updates to Android 2.2, and the official update to Andorid 2.3 from HTC Sence is due out soon.

Food

Built-in battery type lithium-ion with a capacity of 1400 mAh. According to the manufacturer, the talk time is ~ 400 minutes for GSM and ~ 390 for WCDMA, respectively. Standby time up to 340 hours. These data are usually somewhat exaggerated; in practice, the battery has to be charged more often.

Additional features

Automatically decrease the volume of the ringtone when the phone is picked up

Mute the ringer when the phone is display down

Automatically back up data such as SMS / MMS, bookmarks, Wi-Fi settings and passwords) to micro SD card

Conclusion

Since the smartphone is built on the well-proven Qualcomm platform, the reception quality is excellent. The speaker volume is mediocre here, although the standard HTC melodies are specially sharpened for this smartphone. If we talk about conversational dynamics, then the volume is above average, and it will be sufficient in most cases. The power of the vibrator is average, sometimes you may not feel it. The device is expensive, so the price-quality indicator is not as good as we would like. But I want to note that the phone creates harmony between powerful hardware, a beautiful, large screen and a comfortable shell. This is a kind of symbiosis.

The phone has its own design, it is immediately recognizable. Manufacturers have cloned this design on HTC Wildfire. The body materials make the device stylish and practical.

There are no comments either to the screen, or to making calls, or to the speed, everything is at a very good level. The only inconvenient moment was the camera, or rather its focusing, it might take some getting used to it, and the pictures did not always turn out as expected. For the sake of interest, several 3D games were installed on it, the phone passed the test with dignity, and they looked extremely good on the AMOLED display.

Summing up, I would like to note that the main problem of the phone is its short battery life, all other disadvantages of the phone are covered by its numerous advantages.
