Canon 50D vs Canon 60D

Let's compare and list the advantages of the main technical characteristics of the Canon EOS 60D versus the Canon EOS 50D.

The image sensor is 18 versus 15 megapixels for the Canon 50D, the sensitivity is one stop higher!

The image processor is the same (DIGIC IV)!

Focus is the same (all 9 cross-hair AF points).

Metering mode - using a 63-zone versus 35-zone photocell on the Canon 50D.

Viewfinder - Angle of coverage (vertical / horizontal): approximately 96% versus 95% respectively for the 50D.

Shooting - Continuous Shooting: 5.3 vs 6.3 fps on the 50D!

Lack of micro-adjustment for lenses in Canon 60D!

Also note that the Canon 60D uses SD memory cards versus Compact Flash in the Canon 50D, and the joystick is replaced with a multifunctional control unit.

In total, we have the remainder in the Canon 60D camera: a new sensor; the best exposure system, video shooting; LCD screen - with a variable angle of inclination; more capacious battery; wireless control of flashlights. At the same time, they lost a solid body and a decrease in the speed of continuous shooting.

Summary of conclusions and prices, prices, prices ...

First, consider a 50D versus 60D pair. The number of offers on the 50D market is decreasing, but this camera is still available for sale. The average price is about 900 USD. The price for the Canon 60D camera in the F.ua online store is 1300 USD.Therefore, if you want to save money (!), You do not need video, you can easily do without a flip-up LCD screen, have never used external flash units, then the Canon 50D is a good choice. But if, however, you do not have a high-quality (!) Digital video camera and at least sometimes you want to record videos in excellent quality, then the 50D is not our candidate!

There are other worthy candidates: 550D, 60D and 7D!

Good news - all three cameras shoot photos and videos exactly the same !!! They all have the same matrix! Therefore, why pay more, if you can save money without losing anything in quality, then 550D for $ 850. - our choice!

At the moment the difference between 550D and 60D is 450 USD. Over time, the price of 60D will decrease even more, because the camera has just entered our market and the price is still far from the manufacturer's recommended price ($ 1100). The price of the 550D will not go down very much. In all respects, the 60D is better and therefore it is worth waiting a little with the purchase. If you need to buy now or want to save as much as possible or a small-sized camera - see above.

The performance and function gap between the 60D and 7D is much wider than between the 60D and 550D. The 7D camera is the top of the crop range. The price for 7D is $ 1650, respectively, the price gap is $ 350. and will only increase over time. What we are offered for this money: improved focusing system, reliability, rate of fire, better ergonomics. It's up to you to decide!
