Design and construction.

Outwardly, the design is beautiful and very pleasant.

The entire surface is shiny, glossy, with a neckline and frills. Also, models of this laptop can be ordered with a cover that has a special pattern. There is a great opportunity to choose a pattern: there are about 200 of them. Unfortunately, however, this is possible in America. We have a lot of work left for the tuners, or that is, for the moderators.

The case has a good design and smooth lines. The lid does not fit very tightly to the case, so it is better to wear it in a case.

There are no right angles in the body, all the lines are smoothed, and I especially like the design of the loops and the on / off button built into them. It's very stylish. The screen looks nice, the keyboard fits well with the overall design. The main indicators are in the upper right corner. Everything is white. However, this is not very striking in the dark. The battery is located classically in the back under the body. The 6-cell battery does not stick out. At the bottom of the laptop we have (upper corner, left to right): a battery, a common cover for accessing variable parts: hard disk, RAM, etc. Note the strip around the right battery latch: the ability to quickly determine the battery level. Those. without turning on the laptop, you click there, but it shows you the battery level.

There is a hard drive under the cover in the lower left corner, the RAM is located approximately in the center.

The cooling system is efficient (no noise is heard), the location of the ventilation holes could be better, because personally I will have a knee under the grill for incoming air (upper right corner) and the hole will close. We'll have to move the knee a little.

With the screen lid closed, it feels solid, solid. I did not find any particularly annoying areas where the body flexes. Conveniently, the body has such a slope, where the hands rest, the body is the thinnest.

In this laptop, everything is fine with performance, but I would like a more powerful processor.

But this issue has already been fixed in the new Dell Studio 14.

Also worth mentioning is that the ExpressCard slot hides an elegant remote control that will help you enjoy watching a movie or two, a presentation or a photo gallery.

All Dell Studios feature a slot-loading DVD drive. It works like in Apple computers, the disc is inserted into a slot.

I really like the fact that this computer is designed in such a way that when it is turned on, it does not light up all kinds of unnecessary light bulbs. In principle, it is possible to ensure that only the indicator of the hard disk is on (turn off the wireless devices). Although this light is white, it does not irritate or stink the eyes. In a word, you can safely leave it for the night "for pumping" and it will not disturb you either with noise or bright light.

Screen and speakers.

Unfortunately, our screen is not LED-backlit. This can even be seen from the battery life. This screen produces good colors, a glossy finish and a 60Hz refresh rate. Above the screen is a classic 2.0 Mpix camera with microphones. Its design is good, it is almost invisible. The viewing angles are good horizontally and slightly worse vertically.

The curtains at the screen are reliable and after 2 years of use they will not give any weakness. The screen is fixed well. The speakers are ordinary and with a not particularly impressive sound: ordinary laptop sound.

Keyboard and touchpad.

The keyboard fits well with the design and has a fairly functional layout. Although I'm more accustomed to the keyboard that Dell Latitude E6400 has, the location of the buttons "Home", "End", and others is logical here.

Above the keyboard is a multimedia panel - buttons for quick access to multimedia. Descriptions of buttons on the multimedia bar (Quick Access Toolbar) from left to right: Launch Dell MediaDirect (Watch Video), Pre-Song, Stop, Play / Pause, Next Song, Mute, Volume Down, Volume Up, Eject Disc.

On a laptop, the permanent backlighting of the multimedia buttons is turned off, and they only glow with a white, non-striking light when you run your hand over them.

Description of the buttons of the accelerated access press behind simultaneously with the button Fn:

From left to right, the top row in the keyboard: Go to sleep (Fn + F1) Open the laptop power management program (Fn + F3), switch between the main screen and the secondary screen, if there is one (Fn + F8), remove the disk (Fn + F10), decrease backlight brightness (Fn + down arrow), increase backlight brightness (Fn + up arrow), keyboard number buttons are also available: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (Fn + M , J, K, L, U, I, O, 7, 8, 9, respectively), divide, multiply, subtract, add (Fn +0, P,;, /, respectively) and the integer separator (Fn +>.

All the buttons on the keyboard are pressed as usual; there was no particular pleasure in typing. I did not notice any flex under the keyboard. It's also nice to see the button to open the Windows context menu.

The touchpad is medium in size and very pleasant to the touch. Although it does not have horizontal scrolling, it is comfortable to work with. The travel of the buttons is great.

Ports, communications and features to expand all the capabilities of the laptop.

Front, left to right:

IR receiver (for remote control), analog microphone.

On the right are ports, from left to right:

1394 port for connecting a device with an IEEE 1394 or 1394a interface (so-called Firewire, for a camera, for example), 2 USB ports, DVD-RW drive, a hole for a power cord, a power button.

Ports located on the left side, from left to right:

Kensington lock slot, wireless on / off switch, HDMI out, VGA out, USB out, USB / e-sata out, RJ-45 Ethernet port, microphone in, two handset outlets, ExpressCard slot i card reader

There are no ports on the back

Overall, the location of the ports is not very convenient for me, as I like it when the RJ-45 Ethernet port and power cable are located at the back. Also, I would not mind if the USB ports were closer to the rear of the laptop.

Heat and noise.

During operation, the laptop does not heat up much and does not make much noise.

Battery endurance. Battery endurance does not exceed 3:00.

Operating system compatibility.

The computer works well with both Windows Vista and Windows 7.Drivers can be easily found on the official Dell website.

Performance and benchmark results.

I tested the laptop in this presented configuration using the Everest tester software version 4.60.

Below are the readings of the tests carried out:

Read or Memory Read: 4911 Mb / s

Write or Memory Write: 3028 Mb / s

Copy or Memory Copy: 3439 Mb / s

Memory Latency or Memory Latency: 87.1 nanoseconds

CPU Queen test: 8502 points.

CPU PhotoWorxx test: 6193 points.

Conclusions and assessments.

Overall, the Dell Studio 1535 is a very interesting laptop: good style, some special, unique features. I especially like the fact that many things in it are thought out with the convenience and benefit for the user.

Benefits:

- Well thought out design;

- Well thought out main keys;

- Almost does not get warm during work;

Disadvantages:

- Not ideal port layout;

- Not a super powerful processor.
