Review of Nokia 7210 Supernova Pink mobile phone

The question of the quality and popularity of Nokia phones among consumers will not be a secret for anyone. Convenient to use, reliable and with the ability to use for a long time. Nokia constantly pleases customers with new products that allow them not to limit their choice to one or two models. At the moment, the company has rushed to the low-cost segment (line) and now each collection (even of expensive devices) receives budget versions of phones (with the exception of the 8000 series). The first representative of such a newly introduced line is Nokia 7210 Supernova (based on Nokia 5310), costing 120 Euros with the most simple package of delivery, mostly aimed at female audience. The phone acquired the status of mass character due to the fact that it is in demand among schoolchildren, young girls (to a lesser extent, guys) without big requests, or due to the design that attracts the tastes of young people so much. So, we can conclude that the company's task was to create an inexpensive phone that could become a worthy competitor to a huge number of proposals on the market. Let's see if she succeeded!

Design, dimensions, controls

As already noted, Nokia provides the consumer with a choice among many models. As for the Nokia 7210 Supernova, there is plenty to choose from, whether it will be a phone with a bubble gum pink color, or a gray and blue one (vivid blue). Tempting, isn't it? The first option is intended for a female audience, pink inserts are made of rubber, while sometimes it seems that these are keys. The second option is a little calmer and more restrained and can suit everyone, without exception.

Also, the design features are:

  • - compact size of the phone, it is small (106x45x10.6 mm) and lightweight (69.8 grams), it is convenient to carry and it is easy for him to find a place in his clothes;
  • - on the left side there is a connector (2 mm) for connecting a charger;
  • - on the top there is an on / off button, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a microUSB jack covered with a plastic flap;
  • - on the back panel there is a 2-megapixel camera lens, however, there is no separate button to turn it on.
  • - on the front panel, to the right of the keyboard, there is a microphone;
  • - to the right of the microphone there is a light sensor that controls the backlight of the screen and keyboard;
  • - there is a strap mount available;
  • - allowed video size - 12.8 MB.

Display

The positive design characteristics of this model do not contribute to the equally attractive display features. Here you need to take into account both the pros and cons, which are clearly visible in a detailed study of the display. In general, the phone has an average quality display, because it is much cheaper than, for example, in Nokia 5310 and Nokia 7310. The screen has a diagonal of 2 inches, resolution - 240x320 pixels (31x41 mm) and displays up to 262K colors. Unfortunately, due to the relatively small diagonal (this is typical for all phones from other manufacturers with a diagonal of 2 inches) of the screen, we cannot talk about maximum comfort outdoors, this is always a compromise. But, despite this, the colors on the display are vivid and the picture is good, perfectly visible in the sun thanks to the tinted protective glass. The screen fits up to 9 lines of text and up to 3 service lines. The font size is comfortable in most situations, and there is also a choice of the desired size.

Keyboard

There are no features or chips in the keyboard that would make this phone stand out from others. Average in ergonomics, an ordinary keyboard with a metal plate and not annoying, medium brightness white backlighting.

Camera

As for a mid-range model, Nokia 7210 manufacturers decided to rely on something else, but not on the photographic component.The device is equipped with a 2-megapixel camera (CMOS), which is not so much by modern standards, but quite sufficient, as well as a camera module of average quality at an inexpensive price (the same in Nokia 5310). As regards snapshots, the phone supports the following resolutions: 1600x1200, 1280x1024, 1280x960, 800x600, 640x480, 320x240 and 160x120, as well as 3 types of JPEG compression: basic, normal, high. To create photos that can be turned into screen wallpaper, 2 minimum resolutions have been added. The phone has an inherent digital zoom x4, but it is not recommended to use it.

For fans of fast shooting, there is a corresponding mode: the camera takes up to 3 frames at a time, all settings remain the same as those selected for a single shot, including the resolution. There is also a self-timer for taking pictures of yourself. The taken pictures can be saved both in the phone memory and on the memory card. To make the photo improved (in case of poor quality: brightness, clarity, etc.) or you want to experiment with it somehow, you can apply any of these effects: False Colors, Greyscale, Sepia, Negative, Solarize. Well, in the very process of shooting, in order not to scatter the attention of the subject, the shutter sound can be turned off.

The device, for all its simplicity, allows not only taking pictures, but also recording video in 3GP format (video resolution - 128x96 pixels or 176x144 pixels). The recording quality also varies in three ways. The recording can be maximum (if there is enough memory on the phone or on the card), or its duration can always be limited. As with stills, you can apply different effects to your video.

Menus, themes, applications, games

How can this phone please consumers, apart from the availability of standard functions (phone book, standby mode, world time, unit converter, clothing size converter)? For example:

  • - the presence of a number of fun themes in the style of the Supernova series;
  • - the opportunity to have fun through games such as Snake III, Bounce Tales, Sea Sweeper, Sudoku;
  • - the presence of two utilities: 1) the Nokia Search utility, which allows you to search for both information and images in the network (for each country its own search engine is used, the region can be changed in the settings); 2) Opera Mini utilities, inherent in most models;
  • - the ability to use 2 applications: Yahoo! Go and Flickr;
  • - the presence of an installer Widsets, as well as a catalog from Nokia for downloading new applications.

Bluetooth function

Bluetooth is a great way to share files effortlessly. It works well in this phone and shouldn't have any problems. Version 2.0 with EDR is supported. The data transfer rate via Bluetooth is about 170-180 Kb / s.

  • The device has the following profiles:
  • - Dial-Up Networking Profile
  • - Generic Access Profile
  • - Generic Object Exchange Profile
  • - Object Push Profile
  • - Serial Port Profile
  • - Handsfree Profile
  • - Headset Profile
  • - Synchronization Profile
  • - Basic Image Profile
  • - File Transfer Profile
  • - HID (host) Profile
  • - Stereo Advanced Audio Distribution Profile
  • - Advanced Audio / Video Remote Conference Profile.

The work of the stereo headset also does not cause any remarks.

Battery

All Nokia models boast long battery life. This 7210 Supernova uses a 860 mAh lithium-ion battery BL-4CT, which can provide up to 250 hours of standby time and up to 2 hours of talk time. So, with such a battery, the phone will work for 3 days, this is taking into account the possibility of 2 hours of listening to the player, up to 1.5 hours of calls, as well as the minimum number of SMS sending. In general, the maximum music playback time (native headphones, maximum volume) is 18 hours and 50 minutes (the radio part is not disabled). The full charging time of the phone is about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Memory, memory cards

The phone can play microSD cards, the volume of which is unlimited - from the minimum (512 MB) to the maximum (8 GB). The microSD card slot is located under the battery cover, hot swappable cards are supported. As for the memory of the device itself, the user is provided with about 29 MB of memory.

Performance

The performance of the Nokia 7210 is typical. The maximum JAR file size is 1 MB, the heap size is up to 2 MB.

USB

This element in the phone is needed in order to be able to connect a headset, put the phone on charge, or connect a data cable. For this, the phone uses a microUSB connector located on the left side.

  • There are several USB connection modes:
  • - USB Mass Storage (the phone operates at an average data transfer rate of 500-600 Kb / s);
  • - USB Mass Storage;
  • - PC Studio;
  • - modem mode;
  • - MTP mode

Other important features

At the beginning it was said that the Nokia 7210 was based on the Nokia 5310. The first model appeared on the market at the end of October 2007 at a price of 180 Euro, while the second one - in September 2008 with an initial price of 120 Euro. Having considered the main characteristics, we can conclude that the models do not differ much from each other. It turns out that the Nokia 7210 Supernova is a complete copy of the Nokia 5310, with one exception - the slowness of the model in operation (in the interface, when loading applications). The benchmarks show no different performance of the Java machine, but the phone is generally slower. One cannot make any remarks about the connection quality either, because it shows itself as typical for phones of the current generation. But there is one big "but" - the volume is not enough in the phone, it is hard to hear it on the street, and even from a pocket it sounds rather quiet indoors. The vibrating alert function is also available, it is average in strength, it is well felt when the phone is in your pocket.

  • Contents of delivery:
  • - Telephone;
  • - Battery BL-4CT Li-Ion 860 mAh;
  • - Charger AC-3;
  • - Wired stereo headset WH-501;
  • - Instruction.

In conclusion, we can say that taking into account all the characteristics of the phone, it seems that Nokia really decided to save on a budget solution, which, as a result, halved the amount of RAM. But on the other hand, buyers love inexpensive phones, and this one, moreover, is quite efficient, albeit sometimes slow. The cheapness of the Nokia 7210 Supernova will make it popular and in demand, but the similarity with the Nokia 5310 and the small number of "chips" will complicate its life in the world of competitors.
