How much salt should I put in the dishwasher?
To prevent the formation of limescale on the internal parts of the dishwasher and to wash the dishes in it until they shine, use a special salt that softens hard water.
Dishwasher water hardness is determined in two ways:
- visually - you often notice the appearance of limescale on taps and other surfaces in the bathroom, kitchen, etc.;
- on the Internet or other sources, having studied the information on water hardness indicators for the region in which you live.
The harder the water, the more salt, which contains chlorine, must be put into the dishwasher. The negative chlorine ions attract the positive magnesium ions, thereby softening the water.
The unit is equipped with a sensor that records the salt content in the ion exchanger. If there is a shortage of reagent, it signals this. How often depends on the frequency of use of the dishwasher and the level of water hardness.
To avoid spilling salt, use a funnel to pour salt into the opening located on the bottom of the machine:
- 1 kg - with high water hardness,
- 0.5 kg - with medium and low hardness.
Salt spilled onto the pan (if you do not wash it off, but immediately turn on the washing mode) does not affect the quality of dishwashing and does not spoil the kitchen utensils. But using it in everyday life, you can feel the salty-sour taste of food from contact with dishes washed with a spilled reagent.
In functional tablets (3in1, etc.), the components of the salt and rinse aid are already included in the detergent. This salt improves dishwashing by preventing white deposits or streaks, but does not soften the water.
