HOW TO CHOOSE A BABY MATTRESS - which mattress is best for a newborn

The time of your long-awaited baby's appearance is coming closer and closer. It's time to take care of the unborn child and buy all the things he needs. It is very important to choose a good crib for your baby, but it is much more important to choose a quality orthopedic mattress. When buying a mattress for a crib, pay attention first of all to the size and filling.

In most cases, mattresses are made in a standard size, but there may be exceptions. Please note that the mattress should not be larger or smaller than the crib, but should fit perfectly.

It is, of course, important to pay attention to the mattress filler when buying. Sometimes the contents of the mattress can provoke an allergic reaction or a baby feeling unwell. The choice of a children's mattress should be approached with great responsibility.

Which mattress is best for children: cotton or seaweed?

To prevent the mattress from causing orthopedic diseases, such as curvature of the spine, do not choose too soft, for example, cotton wool, in the crib. The disadvantage of a wadded mattress is its short life. Over time, it begins to sag, roll down and become uncomfortable and even dangerous for the physical health of the baby.

It is best to choose natural filler. Now there is a very wide variety of such fillers:

  • seaweed,
  • straw,
  • horsehair,
  • soybeans,
  • coconut.

From a mattress with such a filler, the child will not feel discomfort and at the same time nothing will harm the child's back. In addition, mattresses with natural filling are environmentally friendly, well ventilated, and do not cause allergies.

A filler such as seaweed, unique in its natural properties. It has a therapeutic and prophylactic effect. This material requires a special latex impregnation, as without it it quickly and easily disintegrates.

Another natural filler is sisal. This fiber is tough and tough and is made from agave leaves. Sisal is a good antiseptic, prevents the feeling of moisture and heat.

A cheaper option is unnatural synthetic mattress fillers.

If, for some reason, you nevertheless decide to purchase a mattress for a crib with a synthetic filler, you can choose one of the following fillers:

  • latex: it is made from natural rubber, then it is foamed in a special way and given a honeycomb-like structure. The advantage of latex is the ease of restoring its original shape, that is, despite the softness of the material, there will be no dents in the mattress with such a filler. Microorganisms do not live in it, and it does not rot from moisture;
  • struttofiber: a fiber made from a natural material that is synthetically produced. It consists of a vertical orientation of the villi. The material quickly regains its rigidity. Sometimes manufacturers add wool to strutofiber in order to give additional rigidity and change the original characteristics, add warmth. To make the material cooler, flax is added to the strutofiber. For additional elasticity of the mattress - add coconut coir.

Coconut coir is a material obtained from the intercarp of the coconut tree. Coconut fibers are cleaned, processed, pressed and impregnated with latex. Due to this impregnation, the material becomes elastic and does not delaminate. Coir of the coconut tree is a natural material, environmentally friendly and durable to use.The hardness of the mattress is directly proportional to the number of layers of coir.

  • polyurethane foam: mattresses are firm and firm. This material is very similar to latex, it is quite durable, hypoallergenic, does not absorb moisture and has thermal insulation properties. At a very attractive price, these mattresses have an excellent performance. For better operation, there is a more expensive option - latex polyurethane foam;
  • holofiber: distinguished by its lightness. A mattress with such a filler is warm, well ventilated, does not allow moisture to pass through and does not catch fire.

Cactus coir is also used for filling the mattress. It consists of thorns or thorns, has antiseptic properties and helps to ensure that moisture evaporates faster. Natural Mexican fiber is one of the finest fiber types. The hardness of such a filler is average.
