Review Huawei U9200 Ascend P1

Introduction

The Chinese company Huawei began to rapidly gain momentum and has already taken a certain place in the market among smartphones and other equipment. Until a certain time, there was a stereotype that Chinese smartphones are something fragile and of poor quality, cheap materials and poor functionality. But over the past few years, the quality of Chinese smartphones has grown significantly, and a certain degree of confidence in such manufacturers is gradually emerging. In this review, I would like to take a closer look at a smartphone that is in the middle price range, namely the Huawei U9200 Ascend P1. Let's consider the main advantages and disadvantages of this device.

This is perhaps one of the most anticipated Chinese smartphones this year. The company has already released some great mobile phones in the past year. The most successful model turned out to be a smartphone called Huawei Honor U8860 White. But time does not stand still, better and more interesting models from competitors are entering the market. Therefore, the previous line was replaced by an even more thoughtful, in terms of design and "filling" smartphone, namely the Huawei U9200 Ascend P1. It is about him that will be discussed in this review.

Appearance and ergonomics

If we talk about the appearance of the device, then it very much resembles the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone, which, undoubtedly, has already become a real hit of the year and has proven itself well in the smartphone market. But this does not deprive the Huawei U9200 Ascend P1 of its individuality. The case is classic, plastic candy bar, while it is very thin, and its dimensions are 129 X 64.8 X 7.69 mm, this was achieved thanks to the non-removable battery. In this solution, of course, there are more pluses than minuses, because it is nice to hold a solid and very thin device in your hands. In this regard, it can even compete with the Motorola RAZR XT910 smartphone and lags behind Huawei quite a bit. With all this, it is incredibly light, because it weighs only 110 grams with the battery. The back cover is made of durable carbon fiber "PPDV", which pleases. This device is still available in two colors: black and white, but it is possible that others, no less interesting, will appear. Glossy white looks more elegant and pleasing to the eye, while black is solid and gives the device a serious look, inspires confidence. It has a fairly large size and may not suit everyone, it will be difficult for small fingers to reach certain parts of the case and display, this is also worth considering. The owners of large palms are more fortunate, they can appreciate all the comfort when working with the device, it lies tightly in their hands, and due to its thinness and weight, this is an ideal option. In general terms, we can say that the smartphone is assembled quite well, it is thin and comfortable in terms of ergonomics. If you compare the Samsung Galaxy S II, you will notice that Huawei has a slightly longer body, how much comfortable it is, let everyone decide for himself.

The body has a rectangular shape, as it was conceived by the manufacturer, it is slightly elongated, the bottom ends are rounded. The screen is slightly recessed inside, everything in order to make the smartphone as thin as possible, the back cover is velvet and pleasant to the touch, fingerprints and smears remain on it, but fortunately, they are very easy to erase. Most importantly, the lid does not bend inward, and the case is very thin, the back cover does not emit squeaking sounds, there is no backlash, the overall build quality is at the highest level.

Control elements

The connectors are a full-fledged standard set. There are three touch-sensitive buttons on the front, as usual it is the "Menu", "Home" and "Back" buttons, in this respect it also differs from the Samsung Galaxy i9100 S II, where the hardware button is present on the front panel. Above the display is the earpiece, proximity sensor and front camera. On the top we see a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a microUSB connector and a hole for a SIM card. On the right is a power on / off button and a memory card compartment - microUSB. There is a double volume button on the left.

Battery

The device is powered by a 1670 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is enough for full-fledged operation with a smartphone, however, if you use all its capabilities: games, camera, Internet, movies, etc., then the battery will have to be charged throughout the day. The battery is not removable, which is also one of the reasons why it turned out to be so thin. When testing the battery life, the Ascend P1 did not cross the following limits: under normal load, it lasts from 1 to 2 days. Using Wi-Fi - about 7 hours of work. In any case, you can listen to music and play games for a long time.

Memory

The smartphone is equipped with 4 GB of internal memory (of which only 2 GB is available). If this memory is not enough, the user has access to a "microSD" slot, which supports memory cards with a maximum capacity of up to 32 GB. The amount of RAM is 1024 MB, which is quite a lot, so the device will work perfectly in multitasking mode, even with several simultaneously open applications.

Camera

Camera 8 Mpx, also has autofocus and dual LED flash - this is an indispensable tool for shooting at night or in low light conditions. On the front panel there is a front camera - 1.3 Mpx, it can be used both for video calls and communication via Skype, and for self-portraits. As for video, there is the possibility of recording in Full HD. I also note the built-in filters and effects (HDR mode, face detection, scenes, ISO, etc.). There are enough settings to bring all your creative ideas to life.

The quality of the photo is acceptable, you shouldn't expect something unreal from the P1 in terms of the camera, however, it may well become a replacement for some budget camera ("soap dish").

Camera control inside looks something like this. Huawei has made some changes to the camera interface, or rather, almost completely redesigned it, however, everything works pretty fast. There should also be no questions about the speed of the camera.

Camera settings:

  • Face recognition
  • Timer
  • HDR
  • Modes (portrait, action, landscape, auto)
  • White balance
  • Image settings
  • Autofocus
  • Image Resolution
  • Red eye reduction
  • Reset all settings
  • The quality of the photo can be said to be "good", but nothing more, the feeling remains that something is missing. You can judge the quality of the photo by the following pictures taken with the U9200 P1 under normal conditions at maximum settings:

Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S II, the Huawei P1 achieves very good macro and accurate color reproduction, as you can see by looking at the test shots taken with these two devices:

    Samsung Galaxy S II

    Huawei U9200 Ascend P1

I would especially like to note the macro, it turns out to be very good, which cannot be said about the pictures under normal conditions. Color reproduction is all right, but I would like more juiciness and detail. In general, the photos taken by the P1 are good, but only in sufficient light conditions, the same situation is observed in most modern smartphones, so this is not critical. For such cases, when you need to capture a certain moment in life, the quality and capabilities of the camera are quite enough.

    Display

You will be satisfied with the P1 display, as it is developed with the infamous Super AMOLED technology. It has fairly wide viewing angles, the image looks realistic, bright and contrasting with high-quality color reproduction. The screen hardly fades in the sun, most of the screen remains visible. The diagonal of the screen was 4.3 inches, the resolution is 960x540 pixels, this is one of the highest indicators for today, the smartphone does not occupy the image clarity. He, undoubtedly, can completely replace electronic "readers", the text is clear and very readable. This diagonal of the screen, combined with the resolution, gives good detail, which not every device of this class can boast of. Another nice feature is the toughened glass of increased strength - "Corning Gorilla Glass". Now you can not be afraid that scratches and scuffs may appear on the display during use.

Let's take in comparison screens again Smasung Galaxy S II and Huawei U9200 P1.

You can see that Samsung wins a little in color reproduction, Huawei's colors look a little duller, although both devices have Super AMOLED displays.

It should be noted that the sensitivity of the sensor is very high, and the number of simultaneous multitouch touches is commendable.

    CPU

The P1 boasts a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core processor, which will give the device the necessary speed, which means that it can handle almost any "heavy" applications and 3D games.

Here are the results from one of the "Benchmark" tests, a pretty good result, the P1 is one step away from the Samsung Galaxy Note.

    Other tests:

    Multimedia and software

Huawei U9200 Ascend P1 runs on the Android 4.0 operating system, so working with the device will become even more convenient and enjoyable. This shell is quite multifunctional and intuitive for any user. In any case, it won't be a problem to understand all the functions in a couple of hours.

It should be noted the fast launch of applications, right from the lock screen. This function allows you to open any application with one movement of your finger, what exactly it will be, a music player, or a camera, it does not matter.

With the help of the Polaris Office program, you can read documents directly on your phone, now you do not need to constantly carry a laptop with you or always be near your computer, just download the document to your phone or memory card, and just click on it, the program will open the file itself with the document.

The keyboard looks like this. Thanks to the large screen, it is very convenient to press the touch buttons, you are unlikely to miss the letter you need while typing.

An Mp3 player is also present, it has a classic and user-friendly interface, there is an equalizer. The sound is good, there are no complaints, if you have good headphones it can replace a portable player. The set comes with a wired headset, but it sounds, to put it mildly, in no way, so music lovers will have to get good headphones from other manufacturers.

    Menu interface

Huawei gave us a choice between 2D and 3D menu display modes. The 3D mode looks more interesting, it is felt due to the three-dimensional realistic swiping between desktops. All this is complemented by beautiful widgets. While 2D looks simpler, it uses a minimum of effects and animation.

    Messages and calls

Everything here is simple and tasteful, the standard interface of the Android 4.0 operating system.

    Software

The device comes with a software disc and drivers. The "HiSuite" program deserves special attention. It will automatically install all necessary drivers and additional software on your computer. With it, you can also sync data, back up contacts, music, videos and other files. And also, which is important, it will allow you to keep track of new firmware versions. When you connect your phone to a computer, the program itself scans the device and offers to download and install new updates, these actions only take place with your permission.

    Entertainment

  • Publishing to Twitter, YouTube, Facebook
  • Proximity sensor
  • G-Sensor
  • Light sensor
  • games and applications
  • Take a break from work and play your favorite game. Thanks to the powerful 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, you can play almost any game without any lags or glitches.

In addition to the device itself, you will find in the box:

    1. Charger;

    2. USB cable;

Undoubtedly, Huawei U9200 P1 has already occupied a certain niche in the market, it can rightfully be called a kind of hit. After all, judge for yourself, it is not always possible to find such a smartphone that would correspond to the price / quality. As we managed to make sure, the company relies not on the price, but on the quality, this is so and for this a plus. If your budget is tight and you cannot afford an expensive device like the Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III. You can get yourself an excellent alternative, because you lose a little, Huawei P1 is only one step lower and is almost as good as the "leaders" in many. There are several reasons why you should take a closer look at Huawei P1, namely: low cost and wide functionality, light and thin body, good camera. If you decide to change your old or already boring phone and think about buying a new one, when choosing it is worth taking a closer look at this particular model, you will be satisfied with the purchase.

The smartphone is available in two colors, you can choose which one you like, taste and color, so to speak: Huawei Ascend P1 White and Huawei Ascend P1 Black.
