Appearance and design features

Engineers and designers, who created the design of the device, can be confidently put the mark "excellent", since the appearance of a mobile phone is beyond praise. The gadget is quite thin and small, fits perfectly both in the hand and in clothes while wearing. The weight is insignificant, only 110 grams. And the dimensions also pleasantly surprise the user with their compact dimensions - 90 x 45 x 14 mm.

There is metal in the body, that is, the battery cover is metal, which gives the phone its own style. But the rest of the body is made of plastic. At the same time, the build quality is excellent. There are no squeaks, rattles or backlashes. The auto-finisher spring also works well.

Three color options have been developed: black with orange, black with pink and black with blue. It should be noted that the main part of the phone is in black, while the navigation key and several small inserts are made in one of the additional colors.

Unfortunately, it is necessary to cancel and a small minus - fingerprints remain on the surface of the case. And if on the front panel they are not yet very visible, then on the rear panel they can be seen from any angle.

The front panel is a smooth, glossy surface, from under which the display protrudes. A non-standard decision of the designers was the tinting of the front panel with transparent glossy plastic with a black backing.

On the front panel, there is a vertical slot at the top in the center, which is actually a speaker. Moreover, this part of the phone stands out for its color scheme. A front camera used to make video calls was placed in the upper right corner. There is also a light sensor. If we talk about the lower part of the front panel, there is a navigation key with an OK button and two "rocker keys", the left one contains the call button and one of the soft keys, the right one - the cancel button and the second soft key. The function of turning on / off the mobile device is also performed by the call cancel button. The rocker keys are marked on black plastic, which is covered with transparent plastic on top, which is very practical to use. A small minus is that these keys are small in size and it takes a little time to get used to using them. The navigation key, or rather the colored rim of the key, is made of metal, and the OK button is made of matte plastic. The navigation box is well made and practical.

There are no controls or holes on the bottom and left ends of the phone. And at the top of the right side there is a connector for a thin charger. On the top panel there is a MicroUSB connector, which is reliably protected by a rubber stopper, a key for fixing the back panel and an eyelet for attaching a lanyard. To securely attach the accessory, remove the back panel and hook the lace on a special pin, that is, there is no standard threading of the accessory through the eye of the needle.

The rear panel is almost completely covered by a lacquered steel cover. The only exception is the lower part of the device - the place where the speaker for the signal and for the speakerphone is located, as well as the antenna. Since there should be no metal, that part of the case was made of high-quality matte plastic.Unfortunately, it is worth mentioning one not entirely correct decision of the design engineers - if you put the phone on a soft surface with the back panel, then the sound from the call loudspeaker is almost completely muffled. It would be much more logical to place this speaker on one of the ends. In addition, on the back panel (at the top) there is a camera lens and a dual LED flash, stamped with the words “3.2 mega pixel” and “NOKIA”. It will take a lot of effort to remove the back cover, but this is a standard moment for Nokia phones. The SIM card and memory card are securely "hidden" under the battery, which, in turn, is carefully covered by the back panel.

Keyboard

The block of digital buttons, which is visible when the phone is opened, is small in size, but this does not affect the convenience of working with it. Despite its compact size, it is very convenient to work with the keyboard. Moreover, when working with the top row of keys, there are no problems either, since the front panel is thin and has a smoothed bottom edge, so there is no feeling that the finger rests on the body when pressing the numeric keys "1" - "3". When pressed, the keys are characterized by a soft stroke and clear tactile feedback. The rows of keys are horizontally separated by special grooves, which are quite tangible to the touch. If we talk about the backlighting of the keys, then it is worth noting that everything here is kept in style - the backlighting corresponds to the color scheme that was chosen as an additional color of the mobile phone.

Battery

The phone is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1000 mAh. According to the manufacturer, one battery charge will be enough for the phone to work for 3 hours of talk time or 240 hours of standby time. Having made sure in practice, the numbers come out like this: with an average level of use of a mobile phone, its battery will last for two days of work, and when listening to a music player, it will last for 12 hours of work. It takes approximately 2 hours to fully charge the battery. Moreover, you can charge the device using a special charger or from a USB connector.

Display

The device is equipped with a display with a standard resolution of 240 x 320 pixels for this generation of phones. The diagonal of the screen is not large - 2.2 inches. Unfortunately, with contrasting transitions or oblique lines, screen grain is clearly visible. Color reproduction is top notch and viewing angles are maximum. Despite minor flaws, we can say that the display is good, second only in quality to OLED displays (for example, Nokia N85).

Alerts and vibrating alert

Call signals are audible quite clearly and loudly. But this is in cases where the speaker is not covered by anything. If the loudspeaker is closed or the phone is lying on a soft surface with the loudspeaker down, then the call signal is almost completely inaudible. Conversational speaker, on the contrary, is distinguished by a high-quality level of work. If we talk about the vibrating alert, then it is average in strength, in fact, it could have been made a little more powerful.

"Chips"

The mobile phone has a built-in sensor, thanks to which the “touch control” function functions. In standby mode, the user can double-click on the device to display the clock, turn off the alarm or reminder. With an incoming call, by the same double-click on the device, you can turn off the ringing signal, and then double-click to cancel the incoming call (in this case, the subscriber will hear a busy signal). This function is controlled via the "Settings" menu in the main menu of the device.

Memory

The built-in memory of the device is only 20 megabytes, that is, very little. But the total amount of memory can be expanded with supported microSD memory cards up to 4 GB. The memory in the phone is distributed dynamically, there is no division into memory for contacts, signals, graphic files.

Phone book

The mobile phone has a phone book standard for Nokia devices. When creating a contact, in addition to the mobile phone number and first name with last name, you can add many different additional information. For example, home phone numbers, cell phone numbers, fax numbers, e-mail addresses, website addresses, corresponding photos, videos and ringtones, nickname, birthday, organization name and position in the organization, a note, and much more. The number of contacts is limited by the availability of the device's free memory.

All information that is in the phone book, notes or calendar, the user can synchronize with other Nokia phones or with a personal computer.

Posts

The message client is also in a standard format. In addition, there is no sorting by the type of incoming messages: both SMS and MMS messages are received in a single folder "Incoming messages". Separate items of the "Messages" menu include e-mail messages, voice messages, video messages and chat. When creating a new message, its type is determined automatically: if there is an attached audio file, video clip or image, the phone automatically detects it as an MMS message. You can add a variety of data and additional information to the message text: graphic smilies, calendar notes, business cards. In addition, while creating a message, the user can turn on the camera, take a picture and immediately send it. With the help of the device it is easy to send “quick messages”, which are delivered to the addressee immediately on the screen and are not saved in the memory of the mobile phone or SIM card.

Call signals

The user can assign both a corresponding graphic image and a ringtone to each individual contact. The following moment became a non-standard decision of the manufacturer: as a ringtone, you can set both an audio file in MP3, ACC +, ACC, MIDI format, and a video file in MP4, 3GP or MPEG format. When a call comes in, the graphic image is displayed as a full-fledged picture on the whole screen, and not as a miniature image.

Call and message logs

In the "Journal" menu, information about the last 20 messages, the last 20 dialed numbers, the last 20 received numbers and the last 20 received numbers are synchronized. Also, the timer of packet connections and counters are set as separate items: the counter of the duration of the last call, the total counter of the duration of calls, the counter of messages (their total number).

the Internet

To connect to the World Wide Web, the user uses both the WAP browser and the Opera mini WEB browser. With the latter program, you can open standard HTML pages. Of the minuses, it is worth noting the impossibility of supporting flash animation on Internet pages. But, on the other hand, this is a minus of all phones that are not smartphones.

Additional programs

The phone has an extensive set of preinstalled Java programs, among which it is worth mentioning such as:

- world clock;

- unit converter;

- WEB-browser Opera mini;

- Flickr client;

- Yahoo Go;

- games (golf, the third edition of the snake, casino, three-dimensional football, sudoku, backgammon, rally).

Organizer

The mobile phone organizer also contains many important applications:

- alarm clock (there is a possibility of repeating on days of the week);

- calendar (with the ability to create reminders and notes);

- text notes;

- to-do list;

- stopwatch;

- timer;

- calculator (three options: regular, credit and scientific).

Camera

The device is equipped with a 3.2-megapixel camera, with which you can take pictures with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. The camera is equipped with LED flash and autofocus.

The camera is launched from the corresponding menu item, the shooting takes place by pressing the call key. There are two options for camera interfaces: portrait or landscape. Unfortunately, the interface type is changed only manually in the options, and not automatically.The camera has a small number of options and features, among which the following are worth mentioning:

- continuous shooting;

- three modes of flash operation;

- night mode;

- brightness adjustment;

- timer;

- white balance (automatic selection and three preset values).

The built-in effects include the usual version, negative, sepia and black and white photos. In addition, in the settings, the user can change the frame size (160 x 120, 320 x 240, 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1280 x 960, 1600 x 1200, 2048 x 1536 pixels), photo quality, viewing time of the captured frame, memory type (memory card or mobile phone memory), picture name. There is no macro mode, but the autofocus captures pretty good shots even in mediocre lighting.

The quality of the captured frames is still very far from ideal, but given the miniature size of the device and the fact that the device is not some kind of photo solution, we can assume that the photos are quite satisfactory.

When shooting video clips, the user can adjust the same options and effects as in the photo mode. The only difference is that only 4 sizes have been developed for video shooting (128 x 96, 176 x 144, 352 x 288, 640 x 480). The settings also set the parameters regarding the shooting duration: normal mode (used when shooting videos that are later sent as MMS) and unlimited mode (restrictions are only due to free space on the memory card). Video recording takes place both with sound and without sound. All video files are recorded in 3GP format.

Multimedia

All multimedia files are stored in the "Gallery" menu item, including those from the memory card. Also, from this menu item, the camera, music player, voice recorder, radio receiver, equalizer, stereo base are launched.

Considering all the simplicity of the phone, the device confidently replaces a simple music player in operation. In addition, the headset with control buttons is quite convenient.

Software platform

The phone runs on the S40 5th Edition software platform. All functional features are standard, with the exception of the Maps application. If there is an external GPS-receiver with a Bluetooth interface, this application is used as a navigation program.

There are several options for displaying the Main Menu:

- in the form of a list;

- in the form of icons with signatures (matrix of 3x3 icons);

- in the form of icons (matrix of 3x4 icons);

- in the form of tabs.

In addition, the mobile phone has four pre-installed themes, but you can download your own versions from the Internet. All skins support flash animation and contain unique sounds for calls and messages.

The standby mode is user configurable. You can set the standard standby mode, where the display shows only the clock, system indicators and the name of the mobile operator. And you can configure the active standby mode, which is characterized by extensive functionality and many settings. For example, set the active standby mode with the display of program shortcuts, information about calls and messages, a calendar with reminders, a music player or radio.

Various functions are assigned to the navigation key and soft keys in standby mode. By default, the left key is responsible for opening the "Active" menu.

Overall, it's worth noting that the phone has the maximum customization options.

Communications

If we talk about the means of communication, then this mobile device is equipped with all means of communication. For example, the radio module supports four bands of GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and third generation (3G) WCDMA 850/2100 networks.

There is also support for working in EDGE / GPRS networks, USB 2.0 (plus the ability to work as a flash drive), Bluetooth 2.0, PictBridge standard. The disadvantages include the lack of an infrared port and WiFi support. But all these points are easily replaceable.

Competitors

At first glance, it seems that this mobile phone has many competitive models.But if we take into account the size, materials used, support for third-generation networks, possibly video calls, then the number of competitors is significantly reduced and the following models of mobile phones can be distinguished:

- Samsung SGH-E950 (the differences are large dimensions, lack of support for third-generation networks and cameras for making video calls);

- Samsung SGH-L770 (differs in larger dimensions, completely plastic case, lack of support for GSM 850 and WCDMA 850 networks);

- Motorola Z9 (inferior in size and functionality);

- Nokia 6600 fold (it has lower quality ergonomics, lower battery capacity, weaker camera).

Outcome

As a result of this review, it should be said that the user gets a stylish, high-quality and functional device in this phone. The connection quality is good, the battery capacity is also satisfactory. The design and materials are commendable. And if we take into account the price range, then this phone deserves only a positive mark and positive emotions.

Advantages:

- Small size;

- Stylish and original design;

- Quality materials;

- Not a bad camera;

- Capacious battery;

- Price range

Disadvantages:

- Placement of the speaker for call signals on the back plane;

- Modest equipment;

- Weak vibration alert;

- Lack of camera button for quick launch;

- The location of the memory card under the battery;

- Hard wire headset
