Review Samsung SGH-E590

Appearance

Samsung E590 bears little resemblance to its namesakes. At least in external manifestations. The first thing that attracts attention is the shape and grace of the terminal.

The thinnest phones today are produced by Samsung, but they are gaining extra millimeters in height and width, while the unusual newcomer is graceful, whatever one may say. In a large male palm, it is completely lost, but at the same time it remains convenient to use. True, in the area of the camera, the terminal thickens decently - by about three millimeters, but this can be forgiven with a three-megapixel sensor with autofocus.

In outline, it resembles a soap dish, since the corners of its body are rounded. Exactly the same shape is characteristic of the buttons of the device, the only difference is that they are located horizontally. The keypad is made separately, the middle row of buttons is somewhat underestimated in comparison with the outer ones, which makes dialing convenient, which is facilitated by the sufficient size of the keys and their clear stroke. There are many additional controls on the ends: in addition to the traditional buttons responsible for calling the camera and adjusting the sound level, there are two more unconventional ones here: the "mode" key and the paired button used for shooting.

Everything in the phone is good, but the display is a little disappointing. It is square, with a resolution of 220x220 pixels and a diagonal of 1.8 inches. The most average parameters. Brightness and color are sufficient for most tasks, but the viewing angles are very small, and the image fades a lot in the sun. In general, the design should be liked by very, very many. It is universal, but nevertheless it has some specificity: the majority of users note the "toy" terminal, so it can be assumed that some overly serious users will be left indifferent or even alienated. Despite its frivolous appearance, the E590 is perfectly tailored: all the details are fitted, the covers are neat, the SIM card and micro-SD card can be removed without problems, and the surface plastic is of sufficient quality and non-staining. The only remark is that the camera's peephole is not protected from external influences, so the owner of the device will need to remember this in order to avoid contamination.

The one who forced Samsung in this case to abandon the already tried and, probably very much loved by them, concept of appearance is the famous European designer Jasper Morrison. This Englishman, famous primarily for the minimalistic avant-garde design of a wide variety of household items, was directly involved in the development of the concept of this phone.

Menu and main functions

The menu of the E590 is exactly the same as that of the Samsung D900 and a number of other models from the manufacturer. Newer phones have twelve icons at the root, not nine icons like the E590. That is, the device has an older platform, which is most likely due to the lengthy preparation of its release. However, there is nothing to complain about: the platform is proven and many users liked it.

The phone book can hold 1,000 contacts, and the diary can hold 400 entries. They are comfortable as standard. The device got the function of "live" wallpaper. Liveliness lies in the fact that when an operator is registered in the network, the location, country is determined and the corresponding picture is displayed. For example, for Ukraine, this is Sophia Square with a monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky. When there is a message or a missed call, fireworks begin, and if the reception suddenly deteriorates, the sky over the square will be covered with thunderclouds.

As for entertainment functions, in addition to the camera, the terminal offers an audio player and a radio receiver. The first is no different from most of its related devices: it has a clean, if not bass enough, sound, several standard sound settings and support for looping and repeat playback. There are no fine sound settings, so for a seasoned music lover, such a player may not be enough, but for a not particularly fastidious user, it will do quite well. Moreover, the device supports micro-SD memory cards and the A2DP profile, so you can listen to extensive music collections via a wireless headset. FM quality is good.

Camera

The camera module is very similar to the one that went to the Samsung D900. At least, the shooting results are just as good: the photos are of high quality, like for a mobile phone, clear and bright. And no wonder, because the camera uses an autofocus system, and the resolution of 2048x1536 pixels is enough for everyday shots. The only annoyance is the lack of flash, so you won't be able to shoot in the dark. Recording clips is also no problem for the E590 - video in 352x288 pixels and 15 frames per second is saved in MP4 format. Camera settings are flexible enough, but standard for this class of devices. Among them - white balance adjustment, macro photography, panoramic shooting, inserting a variety of frames and applying effects.

By the way, the manufacturer emphasizes the special importance of the camera in this phone by the fact that it comes with a portable tripod. The E590, however, does not have a special mount, so you won't be able to adapt another tripod to your own needs.
