THE SOUND ON THE COMPUTER (laptop) is missing - what to do if the sound on the computer disappeared, how to get it back (restore)

If there is no sound on the computer, open the "Sound, game and video devices" tab, right-click on the name of the sound card (in my case, High Definition Audio), select "Properties" and see what will be written in the "Device Status" field ...

Windows Sound Settings. The second thing to do is to right-click on the volume icon and select "Playback devices" (just in case: if the volume icon is gone). See which device is used to play audio by default.

If the problem happened with the audio outputs on the front panel, then you can read about it in the article "How to adjust the sound on the front panel of the computer". If the problem is with other audio outputs, read below for solutions to these problems.

The reasons for the loss of sound on the computer may be the following:

  • failure of speakers or headphones;
  • incorrect settings of sound parameters in the computer;
  • driver problems;
  • software crashes due to viruses and the installation of incompatible programs.

Checking headphones and speakers

The first thing to check when there is no sound from the computer is headphones or speakers. To check, you need to take a known working headphone and insert them into the connectors. If there was no sound and there is no sound, then read on.

Setting up sound on your computer

Another possible problem is that the volume control has fallen off for some reason. In this case, you need to see what is wrong with the settings. To do this, go to the “Control Panel”, select “Hardware and Sound” and “Adjust the volume”.

Perhaps the sound is "twisted" to a minimum. Therefore, it is necessary to move the regulators and correct the situation.

Reinstalling drivers

If everything is normal with the volume level, then the next step is to check the health of the devices responsible for sound. We go to the "Device Manager" and check if there are any problems. This is usually indicated by question marks next to device icons. If there is such an icon, then you need to try reinstalling the driver. To do this, right-click on the device icon and select “Update drivers”.

A more drastic option is to roll back the system. System recovery is also carried out through the device manager (see the figure below).

The last resort in this series would be a complete reinstallation of the system. Immediately after reinstalling the system, fresh sound drivers are installed. After that we install all other programs. The sound may disappear after installing any program. This means there is a driver conflict.

Checking devices

If there is no sound and there is no sound, then the problem is in the sound card or motherboard. Since most budget computers are equipped with motherboards with built-in sound, the problem is most likely in the motherboard. With such a problem, it is better to contact the service center.
