Why do hard drives break?
Hard drive failure can happen for a variety of reasons - overheating inside the case, emergency power off, crash, hot plugging, and so on. At the same time, the symptoms can be completely different, even if the reason is the same. It can be detected by the computer and reach the boot of the operating system, or vice versa, "hang" the work of the entire computer.
Winchester is the most fragile device in a computer and probably the most difficult from a technical point of view. It is quite logical that for this reason in no case should you open it, even remove the stub stickers, because in this case you will not only lose the warranty, but will also automatically lose your data due to air ingress, and with it - and the smallest dust particles.
What to do and what not to do?
It is very important, at the slightest suspicion, to listen to the sounds that the hard drive makes. If he makes noise, knocks, rattles, know: you do everything at your own peril and risk. Each second of operation in this mode will not only reduce the likelihood of saving data, but also cause irreparable damage to the drive. In this case, you can have time to save some of the data, and then the irreparable and inevitable will happen to him, and even if the specialists get down to work, data recovery will be almost impossible.
The most difficult and less desirable is the breakage of the magnetic heads. In this case, you can only try to restore the data (again, with the help of specialists or a service center), but it cannot be repaired - the hard drive instantly loses part of its volume, which cannot be restored. This breakdown can be diagnosed by rhythmic knocking or clicks (depending on the model).
If the device starts knocking, immediately turn off the computer from the network. Inside there is such a picture: the head starts to come into contact with the magnetic surface and scratches it. Since the discs are made of glass, they are magnetically coated like a powder. Therefore, if you leave the device in this position for a while, the entire magnetic coating can simply be cut down and there will be nothing to restore after opening.
